Tom Daley "furious" at swimming trans ban

Apparently Fina's ruling is "not on". Speaking at the British LGBT Awards Daley said: "I was furious. You know, like most queer people, anyone that's told that they can't do something they love just because of who they are, it's not on. It's something I feel really strongly about. Giving trans people the chance to share their side."

No one is stopping trans people competing Tom. Just stopping them from competing unfairly in the wrong sex category. Trans women are free to compete in the male category and will also be in future if sport decides to have an open category.

Should we be surprised at his attitude? Not really, after all he thinks it's OK to rent a woman's body to produce a baby for him and his partner. He seemed to know what sex was then.

Oh I'm glad to see a thread on this. I'm a bit tired of men I know personally or am aware of signalling their lack of prejudice and bigotry by hanging my rights over to other men.
Maybe if transmen were winning award for men of the year and taking first place on podiums they would think again.
I've tried to explain to ds I don't care what someone wears. It's more than that.

but I feel some gay men have issues in understanding or feeling real concern for women, as the women in their lives tend to be their mothers (older so less likely to be seen as potential targets of male sexual violence etc), or friends (degree of emotional attachment, not a strong love). Usually no daughters, girlfriends, wives etc with that strong protective love
so they’re not risking any of their nearest and dearest by supporting TWAW

Tom Daley came out as a gay man - he stated that he was a man who only dates other men.

Tom Daley came out for men participating in women's sports - he has stqted men who want to be in women;s sports should be in women's sports.

Tom Daley is by definition either a liar (ie he is not gay, he lied and said he was) or he is someone who believes that he has a right to discriminate against trans men in his bed, but that women don't have a right to discriminate against trans women anywhere.

I never understood why people thought he was so charming to begin with, so it will be easy to go on not caring what he thinks about anything. Why should his opinion on this matter? He's not a woman. He's not even a trans woman. Being a gay male doesn't make his view any more relevant than that of a straight male.

Nothing will make my brain not imagine the sort of thing you see in old cartoons with the ridiculously high board and a bucket of water.

Thank you Tom for pointing out that trans women don't just love to swim, train, race and compete because as we can all see, no one has said they can not, what they love to do, is fuck women over and we are stopping them from doing that.

Absolutely tired of gay men who come out and get so much support from women, and then it turns out it isn’t just that they don’t want to have sex with women (no worries!) but they don’t like us and have no empathy with us whatsoever.

Also, wherever one stands on surrogacy, using a surrogate and wanting males to be in the women's category is hypocritical. Tom knows full well what a woman is when it suits him. A person could be pro surrogacy and still see that.

I think Tom Daly is a worry.

To me he seems a bit "simple". He is apparently academically bright, but not quite wired right. I mean his simplistic thinking and naivety.

He got together with his husband, 20 years his senior, at 18/19yo, not long after his father died. It was only at this point he "realised" he was gay.

Can you imagine if that was a young woman who took up with a father figure who would teach her about her sexuality?

Then the fact that the husband is a self described "LGBT activist". Well it's not hard to see that Tom might be being manipulated for the publicity and fed the things he's supposed to say (that he clearly doesn't understand).

He still needs to shut up, but I do hope someone's checking on him a bit.
