Apparently Fina's ruling is "not on". Speaking at the British LGBT Awards Daley said: "I was furious. You know, like most queer people, anyone that's told that they can't do something they love just because of who they are, it's not on. It's something I feel really strongly about. Giving trans people the chance to share their side."

No one is stopping trans people competing Tom. Just stopping them from competing unfairly in the wrong sex category. Trans women are free to compete in the male category and will also be in future if sport decides to have an open category.

Should we be surprised at his attitude? Not really, after all he thinks it's OK to rent a woman's body to produce a baby for him and his partner. He seemed to know what sex was then.

Yes, it's all measured on the same scale of difficulty - and unlike gymnastics (different apparatus and requirement for floor exercises) or skating (different PCS factoring) there's no other difference in how they are scored.

I think he needs to knit himself a clue. What a fool.

Anyone who is unconvinced of the size of the male advantage needs to watch the vids of elite female gymnasts watching non-elite males nailing their favourite women's routines - ie non elite males doing routines / disciplines that they don't train for because men's and women's gymnastics is different.

Reallyreallyborednow · 28/06/2022 10:06

Unfamiliar with the sport - can you confirm that these scores are directly comparable? No sex-based scoring differences?

nope. The only sex based difference is men do the extra dive. Everything else is the same, same 10m board, same table of difficulty, dives are judged on the same scale- take off, height, position in the air, entry into the water.

in smaller competitions it’s fairly usual for males and females to compete together, with the scores separated out at the end. So no difference at all in judging.

He’s a hypocrite

here www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/tom-daley-anti-gay-laws-countries-olympics-world-cup_uk_616817eae4b0f26084f1529c
he is saying

“I don’t think countries that have anti-LBGT and anti-women [laws] or discriminate against people of colour, should be allowed to host any major international sporting competition.”

but he clearly is happy for discrimination against women

And happy for his mother to continue to be support human www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/11702153/tom-daley-mum-son-robert-husband-dustin-lance-black/

Just not to have any actual right’s based on her being female

TinselAngel · 29/06/2022 08:14

I've always thought his husband was the driving force behind the activism but I hadn't realised he's also 19 years older.

Yep. In a relationship since Tom was 17, got married when he was 23.

TinselAngel · 29/06/2022 08:26

It does suggest that Tom was recruited for all this.

I would love to hear Tom's thoughts on the 29 yr old trans woman who just beat a 13yr old female in an urban skateboarding competition.

And scooped the prize money for the win. 🤔

This phrase ""We put in a boy embryo and a girl embryo and we don't know whose is whose." Chilling?

This all reminds me of my DD, brought up in multi-racial London in a street which is 50% gay couples, and who is committed to equality, complaining about her upcoming EDI lecture. "Being lectured to by a middle aged, middle class, white man".

This whole thing is being sold in the name of equality and inclusion, yet it is middle aged middle class white men like Lance who seem to be in the driving seat. We need to start caring about the poor and marginalised - whether they are gay or straight and regardless of gender.

When Tom's dad had just died.

It just makes you shudder really.

ApplesandBunions · 29/06/2022 10:12

Yeah that is pretty dodgy sounding. I would not want my recently bereaved 17 year old getting involved with a man on the verge of middle age.

SuperTea · 29/06/2022 10:17

Yes, if he was a woman posting on MN spouting her husbands views, everyone would be saying she'd been groomed.

Are these his husband's views?

SuperTea · 29/06/2022 10:24

ReneBumsWombats · 29/06/2022 10:19

Well he's a self styled "LGBT activist"

Tom wasn't even gay out before they met.

ReneBumsWombats · 29/06/2022 10:28

Well, perhaps he has been groomed. It's possible. At least pregnancy can never be used as a weapon against him.

He's still talking shite and treating women like dirt.

Absolutely, I just think the whole thing stinks. Like he was targeted to be the mouthpiece for things he clearly doesn't understand.

BinBandit · 29/06/2022 12:06

He's in his mid twenties and been in the public eye since he was a young boy. He should know by now that if you don't understand you keep your mouth shut and educate yourself.

Of course he should, there's just something that makes me uneasy. He still presents like a teenager convinced he knows everything. Still almost childlike in his naivety.

BinBandit · 29/06/2022 12:48

I don't disagree, but he's not. He's a grown ass man with a child. His mum has been living with them also. The people who are closest to him should be giving him better advice and if he is truly that naive then he should be kept away from making public statements on issues that he has no knowledge about. It's not nice to think that anyone is being manipulated and people should have stepped in at the time this relationship started imo and I'd say that regardless of whether it was straight or gay. Some people have their head screwed on right when they are young and wouldn't be perceived as vulnerable but in this relationship he was. A better man would have stepped back to allow him to grow up tbh.

Slothtoes · 29/06/2022 16:12

Reading that article about the Black/Daly family, i can’t see how any parent can think it’s a good idea for a child not to ‘know’ who their father is, just because there are two dads involved. And who presumably benefited from having a very clear idea of who their own fathers were.

It says there’s an egg donor and surrogate abroad (I don’t know if it’s the same woman for both, or not). Why not give the child at least one person they can look to for where their green eyes or straight hair or whatever it is come from? Most importantly, so the child never feels lied to by those closest to them, about something that’s likely to be incredibly important to them.

Lesbians IME wouldn’t dream of wanting to do this about who the mother is, just because there are two mums involved. I just don’t get it.

BinBandit · 29/06/2022 16:36

Maybe they'll just toss the baby from the high board when it's 5 and see if it bellyflops or executes a perfect triple pike with a half twist...

I hadn't thought about that aspect to be honest but you are perfectly right. The child has every right to know who it's father is and given that they intend to have another then surely they could have chosen one this time and the other the next?

Clymene · 29/06/2022 17:39

It's very popular with gay male couples. Really underlines how little they think about the child in all this.

ReneBumsWombats · 29/06/2022 18:13

However they try to obfuscate it, it's very likely that it'll eventually become clear who the father is.
