What scares you most about state of trans ideology

Musing over a few things this evening with a friend, talking about not only sanitary product companies but also make up brands jumping on the band wagon, new gender neutral toilets at work, the debacle of men being allowed in womens changing rooms, children being allowed hormone blockers and so on.

But out of everything, the thing that really frightens me most is how on earth im supposed to raise my daughters in amongst all this. We have always been respectful of peoples choice and differences, we try to instil this in the girls. However it's getting harder to keep the balance and explain things without having to get into why they as girls are on the back foot, pushed out of things and why they need to understand the dynamics and implications. I suppose im resentful that it's gotten to this point?

Anyway, what is it about the current climate that really gets to you the most?

This. It's uncanny how accurate Orwell's vision was.

Good as Orwell's dystopia is (and it is) the scarier version is Huxley's Brave New World-A docile populace literally buying into the Koolaid through convincing sounding bullshit propaganda and feel good drugs.

BringBack that is bloody awful, your poor son. Hoping it eases up for him soon.

Thanks. Yes it's bloody awful but the worst part is, is isn't other kids telling him he's a girl, it's adults telling him.

That's pretty much where we are. Large numbers of people on meds, sex and other bodily drives sated but not in a really satisfying way, no intellectual depth.

Torunette · 29/05/2022 22:54

For me, it's this: if you can persuade people to accept that men are women and women are men, you can persuade them of anything.

If you can then persuade people to think that people who don't believe men are women and visa versa are worthy of contempt, then you've set up a fertile environment for genocide.

I never thought I would say this but this is not a drill. This is a wholesale capture of the establishment, public institutions and three of the four main political parties in England with an ideology that is so nonsensical, it reveals none of them are fit for purpose in any way.

That too is a terrifying revelation.

I'm with you and Neil Postman on that.

“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumblepuppy. As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny "failed to take into account man's almost infinite appetite for distractions."

I also recommend Yevgeny Zamyatin's 'We'. It's been a very long time, but I read all three in a short period - I believe 1984 and BNW both borrowed from 'We'.

Boiledbeetle · 29/05/2022 23:10

I have to admit I really struggled with brave new world. I was so creeped out in about the first three paragraphs that I read it as quickly as I could and didn't really absorb too much. I just wanted to finish it and be done.

"And this," said the Director opening the door, "is the Fertilizing Room." Urghhhhhhhh

I should really go back and give out another go!

TheBiologyStupid · 29/05/2022 23:10

About the only thing that Orwell got wrong was a serious underestimation of the length of the daily hate.

I'm worried for my daughter. Don't get me wrong.

But I'm really scared for female prisoners being forced into small cells with violent males guilty of sexual assaults.
They can't escape, that fills me with dread.

TheBiologyStupid · 29/05/2022 23:17

To be fair that would be easier than trying to reach the bookcase that my actual real version is on. Thrust at me by my mother many years ago with the command READ IT. It's a beautiful folio copy as well. But then she always did prefer books to food and heat!

And they refuse to see how that could probably re traumatise a large swathe of the female prison population!!

Boiledbeetle · 29/05/2022 23:41

I mean just the thought it might happen could happen! That would do for me I'd be literally topping myself! It would be reliving the worst part of my life over and over and over! Fuck that!

Thankfully no. Just randoms out and about who refer to him as a girl because of his hair (understandable mistake) but then argue with him and tell him he's wrong when he says he's a boy.

NecessaryScene · 30/05/2022 07:27

but then argue with him and tell him he's wrong when he says he's a boy.

Most of the time this plays out as straight male supremacy, but this shows one of the "in-group/out-group" caste and recruitment aspects.

In circles with those beliefs, telling someone they are the sex they really are is a bannable offense.

But telling someone they're not they sex they really are is a hobby with discussion groups dedicated to the practice.

SkiingIsHeaven · 30/05/2022 08:18

The brainwashed kids and the fact that you cannot have a discussion about it.

You either believe that trans women and women with penis's are women or you are a terf, bigot and a hurtful horrible person.

Ratonastick · 30/05/2022 09:20

I fear the mental health time bomb. Fertility is not a guarantee for anyone, I believe 1 in 6 or 1 in 7 people suffer fertility issues. Studies have shown that infertility has a dreadful impact on mental health, including depression and suicidal thoughts. Now add in that you are suffering because you did it to yourself as a teenager. The pain that some young people are in for doesn’t bear thinking about. And for an ideology that is so focused in suicide risk based on dodgy statistics they seem wilfully blind to the suicide risk based on peer reviewed research.

A WHRC webinar had a presentation by a Swedish author (Kajsa Ekis Ekman) who reported that she had been contacted by a Swedish infertility clinician who claimed to be seeing increasing numbers of women in their 20s who (after testing) have atrophy of their reproductive organs. These are women who had been treated with puberty blockers and cross hormones at a young age and gone on to have difficulty with conception. (It seems that they had detransitioned but this wasn't entirely clear.)

BringBack - how ridiculous. I wonder also if the current sex/gender issue isn't making the whole thing worse - if people are more inclined to doubt somebody when they declare their sex.

Yes no one used to care. These lobby groups have created this issue so they can sell you the solution. Anyone who says this isn't all stereotypes is seriously mistaken

That's something that's never occured to me. I always assumed it was that they were deciding he was trans and pushing that onto him, but actually you may be right, they may be thinking he is a biological girl and not be believing him when he says he isn't.
