Amber Heard&Johnny Depp trial

Miscfeminista · 18/05/2022 19:05

I wanted to hear more thoughts from women who actually don't accuse Amber for being"a faker". I don't want to tip toe around it or argue with people over same thing over and over while they pretend they are unbiased when in fact they just support Depp.

A lot has already been said and I know you need to have diverse opinions for better conversation etc but on the other thread I am, I'm so tired of people victim blaming and chewing over stuff with little substance so I wanted to make a separate one where we can follow the rest of the trial and outcome with our comments and observations(without constantly arguing about feminist basics).

My last thought was that AH witnesses have been consistent so far and have been wondering if they pulled away from her because they didn't want the drama surrounding it(instead of actually finding her guilty, like Depp fans are suggesting).

I'm following it over Sky over ones with commentary(every day around 1-2 afternoon UK time, 9 in the morning US time I believe..trial ends next week, think someone said 27th)

All observations welcome. What stood out to you so far?

Deep has won $15m from hurd and her cade is no proven

WeeBisom · 01/06/2022 20:33

So in America, the land of the first amendment, it’s defamatory to Johnny for amber to say “I was a victim of sexual violence and faced the public’s wrath” but in England it’s not defamatory to Johnny for the sun to call him a “wife beater”.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 01/06/2022 20:33

Its a shame all round

RoseslnTheHospital · 01/06/2022 20:59

I'm fairly sickened at some of the language being used about Heard and the absolute glee in her downfall.

I don't know the US system but I imagine there will now be another round of appeals all round, from both Heard and Depp?

shroom, @ blkheaert

some things are not your fight

i really want women to learn to stay on code. even if amber heard was as bad as a person as you believe she was, why don't you sit this one out? im serious. disagree with her actions in silence. do you know why? because there is no reciprocation. when something bad happens to you, no critical mass of men will come to your defense. there won't be campaigns spearheaded by men to make sure your abuser never sees the light of day. you are doing something for a group who wont hesitate to turn around and laugh at you. rest. let the men defend their own and mind your business.

I'm not shroom, but I'm with shroom.

Just getting that in under the wire. One for the cackling remora.

KimikosNightmare · 01/06/2022 21:17

I feel sorry for her. I thought she was absolutely dreadful on the cross -examination which some of you thought she looked cool as a cucumber/ unrattled.

I thought she came across terribly there- basically accusing other witnesses , who had no particular axe to grind , of lying. Same with the Coachella driver. That and the "donations" were clearly lies.

They both came across as awful and both more than capable of abusing the other so I didn't think either of them deserved to win.

I agree with shroom. But you have to remember a lot of the posters on here aren't female. They're MRAs and tbh their 'glee' and gaslighting make it easy to spot that they're only here to be gfs. Hopefully MN will now treat them the way MRAs have always been treated on here. It's just unfortunate that it didn't happen sooner.

A shocking verdict that stands as testament to the vitality of the backlash against #metoo.

(What are we allowed to say here - is mumsnet hosted in the UK? Is it subject to English libel law, American libel law, or both? It would seem that those openly disagreeing with the verdict may risk committing libel in the United States, while those explicitly agreeing with it may risk committing libel in England and Wales!)

DysonSphere · 01/06/2022 21:55

Yay he won! And rightly so. Justice still exists in America in seems after all

Miscfeminista · 01/06/2022 21:57

All of you cheering"Johnny won..."I hope I don't meet any of you anytime soon. I am so. Over. People supporting abusers.

Ah really.

Yet if amber the abuser won youd have been cheering her.

Given that amber has been proved in a court of law to be a liar, shes a insult to me too.

Furries · 02/06/2022 01:03

Birdie746 · 01/06/2022 20:22

They got her. Fantastic news 🥳🥰👏👏👏

Am really not quite sure how to take this - if it’s the way I’m reading it, shame on you for your glee.

FireFlyBoogaloo · 02/06/2022 02:39

Amber Heard attempted to co-opt the momentum of the MeToo movement to enact financial and reputational revenge on her ex-husband, and she did so to the detriment of all women. I will not "sit this one out" and I will not go along with the infantilising nonsense that women are incapable of lying and acting vindictively. And I would strongly suggest that women telling other women to shut up because it's "not feminist" take a long, hard look in a recently polished mirror.

"Everyone who disagrees with me is an MRA" is no different, no better, no less utterly pathetic than "everyone who disagrees with me is a transphobe."

Give your bloody heads a wobble.

ProclivityForPyrotechnics · 02/06/2022 02:48

Careful Mumsnet will delete this too no doubt

Miscfeminista · 02/06/2022 03:23

@FireFlyBoogaloo who the hell ever said women don’t lie, act vindictive, revengeful, aggressive, angry or any other HUMAN re/action? I find the people pointing this out eat their own words-why would you even mention it if it’s granted that women do all these things? Precisely because it does make difference, precisely because you judged AH and others for displaying those behaviours as being guilty of something while mens abusive behaviours are expected and not to be discussed(even on feminist sub). All she had to do was show all above to be guilty, no one needs anything else as proof after that.

I was patient enough to hear out all thar fucker had to say by listening whole trial and still found that he was an abuser. I put aside that he’s disgusting, unlikeable and looks like a typical abuser and he still proved who he was. If you some of you only gave that grace to AH instead of jumping on”not all men”train

I see Amber as the abuser. And many with me.

I watched all of the trial. Be assured, you don't know more than the jury.

AgnesNaismith · 02/06/2022 08:09

It is interesting that the jury decided AH lied yet found in her favour when AW posted on twitter that AH lied. I’m interested to know the thinking behind that.

Birdie746 · 02/06/2022 08:12

The jury finding he posted on twitter doesn't make JD an abuser 🥴 Feel like many have tripped through the looking glass, got to be honest.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 02/06/2022 08:19

nope, not in my case (even though im not an amber supporter) and im sure not in some of the other posters cases either

you haven’t been cheering on here either

AgnesNaismith · 02/06/2022 08:47

And I wouldn’t have been cheering either way, the whole trial has been awful.
