Yes, it’s the Mail. No, I’m not apologising. This is fantastic!
The Lisa Nandy video
Honestly. I can't count the number of times when I have been absolutely spitting nails over this issue, and that fucking video is one of them.

She tells Julie Long that rapists and paedophiles should be put in whatever prison they want. And in the very next breath claims that she has spent time keeping women who have been subjected to domestic abuse, safe.

How is it keeping them safe, when you let any old sex offender into their space??

The idiocy is beyond belief.

Mochudubh · 01/04/2022 10:45

@Slothtoes

I hope in time they will consider adding campaign materials to their website for us to use with sitting MPs, to help us remind them that we still expect them to treat women as people while they, you know, have legislative power over us?
Me too. I'd love a poster to put in my window (though that might scare the SNP off and not give me a chance to ask the question).

If they made one available on the website for download I'd even risk printing it out at work when no-one's around (no home printer). Some stickers Shock would be nice too.

I intend to vote communist if they're on the ballot.

I was a dyed in the wool SNP voter before I woke up to this issue. I'm sure Alec Salmon knows what a woman is Hmm but I can't hold my nose enough to vote for his Alba party.

I’ve just been back on the DM and the article seems to have slipped down further. If you have a minute could you click on it, and hopefully get it towards the top.
Thanks

Misiecle · 01/04/2022 10:46

I've just written to all my candidates in the upcoming elections - been meaning to do this for weeks, great sense of satisfaction! I was furious with the Greens when I wrote to them about this last year (county elections) - total mansplaining and a page of critical theory on why I was actually playing into the hands of a patriarchal outlook (how silly of me, thinking I was standing up for women).

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/04/2022 10:53

@EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn

Someone on my Facebook made the point that the Daily Mail will judge the success of the online article partly by how many views it gets and how often people click on their Share icons to share it on social. So I’m going to do that.
Thank you for sharing. What an amazing article! I’ve clicked on share. So I hope that helps a little.

@ResisterRex

teawamutu just saw Parliament's not sitting. So Caroline must be at a private meeting of some kind. Still!
I think she's joking! Just an April fool.
WeWillLookBack · 01/04/2022 11:04

So important. This campaign is intended to make womens rights and child safeguarding an issue for the local elections. It’s great that it’s prompting people to write to their MOs but if you have a local councillor election coming up PLEASE contact the candidates!
WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 01/04/2022 11:41

Fucking hell. Seeing all those quotes together is really going to make people who were unaware of this issue, realise the extent of this insanity. Go Maya (and everyone else!!!) Star

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 01/04/2022 11:45

@EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn

There was a thread here five or six years ago where posters imagined the headlines as soon as the press got wind of what's going on. It felt as though it must be imminent because what was happening was so bad. But its taken years.

And doesn’t it feel great to have been in it from the start???? The days of the red T-shirts, Speakers Corner, the Westminster Hall debate when Layla Moran told everyone she could see souls!

I just looked back at all my 8 million name changes and I've had this one since 2018 (I also remember using WeBuiltCisCityOnSeeingSouls at the time of the Layla Moran jaw dropping moment Grin)

How the fuck has this taken so long to actually get out there and make people sit up? Shock

ResisterRex · 01/04/2022 11:54

Just saw Misty. Weird joke! Anyway, doesn't detract from the day

ScreamingMeMe · 01/04/2022 12:02

@ResisterRex

Not to derail but if we are talking Mail vs Guardian then the former has this too:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10674561/Student-silenced-Oxford-claim-raped-halls-storm-erupts-gagging-order.html

Oxford college then run by Alan Rusbridger 'imposed blanket gagging order on woman who claimed she was raped - and the former Guardian editor desperately to convince her not to complain'

There was also this from The Mail. Nothing is black and white.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2080159/amp/Stephen-Lawrence-case-How-killers-finally-brought-justice.html

BenCooperisaGod · 01/04/2022 12:03

Jesus, Lisa Nandy. So, i want male child rapists locked up with women because i wont do anything that challenges the identity of a young trans person i know.

How about challenging an ideology that requires male rapists to be locked up with women to validate individuals identities.

McDuffy · 01/04/2022 12:19

Bit emotional and angry reading the article! Maya is mega.

Wykid · 01/04/2022 12:21

Why are jails segregated? What’s the point if we can all choose where we want to go?

The world has gone insane

FWR: we're organising Mhairi: not like that!
FOJN · 01/04/2022 12:39

I saw something on YouTube which really highlighted how insane putting men in women's prisons is.

The figures given were 137 TW in women's prisons, 69 had current or previous convictions for sexual offences, about 50%.

If you took 137 men from the male prison estate in the same proportion sex offenders were represented in the male estate and transferred them to women's prisons there would be 28 sex offenders. The video used 20% as the rate of sex offenders in the male prison estate, this is the higher end of the 15 - 20% range often quoted.

Currently 137 TW in female prisons = 69 sex offenders.

Hypothetically 137 men in female prisons = 28 sex offenders

In other words if we just admitted men to women's prisons then women would be exposed to fewer sex offenders.

Insane is correct as well as utterly barbaric.

UniversalAunt · 01/04/2022 12:57

The relief at seeing common sense prevailing in MSM.
The DM online & front page of the paper has a massive reach into the heart (& minds) of the Great British Public.

How telling are the career politicians responses.
I am now looking forward to meeting my local candidates on the doorstep in the weeks coming to the May 22 local elections.

#RespectMySexIfYouWantMyX.

In the related articles box beneath the Maya article, a blistering attack on Stonewall by the new Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey. And she's taking no prisoners.

SushiShopSearch · 01/04/2022 13:00

Fantastic and I think so many people have peaked thanks to Liar Thomas and now the cycling dude. I've just typed that letter up and am going to send to all my local councillors who are up for election.

Let's do this!

tabbycatstripy · 01/04/2022 13:08

Owen Jones: ‘Because if this was a genuinely radical feminist movement threatening the patriarchy, it would definitely 100% have the enthusiastic support of checks notes the Daily Mail.’

He is the patriarchy.

He is the patriarchy.

It's such a nonsensical point. "Oh you read it in X paper, so you must be evil incarnate".

It's like #nodebate. It's tired, I'm sick of hearing it.

For those who think the Guardian is and has always been some shining beacon of light in a dark industry, this is worth reading in full:

corruptionuncovered.wordpress.com/2015/07/03/michael-gillard-on-bent-cops-the-untouchables-investigative-journalism-and-the-guardian-2001-exposing-the-link-to-stephen-lawrence-and-daniel-morgan-murders/

tabbycatstripy · 01/04/2022 13:22

It is a nonsensical point. The movement is what it is regardless of which newspaper wants to publish stories about it. OJ thinks he gets to sit in judgment on what constitutes ‘okay’ feminism, whereas I think he should just F off.

His idea of acceptable feminism is blowjob touting women who agree with him.
Abitofalark · 01/04/2022 13:35

It's not on the front page in Mailonline so I looked in Femail section and couldn't even see it there. So finally gave in and resorted to Search and it came up. They seem to be hiding it away more than anything.

If I hadn't read about it here I wouldn't have known a thing about it and that will be the same for the wide online readership, most of whom, like me, I suspect, never buy the newspaper.
