Yes, it’s the Mail. No, I’m not apologising. This is fantastic!

@tabbycatstripy

Owen Jones: ‘Because if this was a genuinely radical feminist movement threatening the patriarchy, it would definitely 100% have the enthusiastic support of checks notes the Daily Mail.’

He is the patriarchy.

The fact is that the Daily Mail is consistently better in covering stories about women's issues compared to The Guardian. Consistently.

I actually think, contrary to several posters, that TG is also more racist overall, but even without that element, this assumption that it's somehow morally purer is just such a huge mistake even at a glance.

Their biggest problem is a real tendency to go for cheap tabloid articles without being careful about fact checking, but TG doesn't even seem much more reliable these days - the main difference is they manipulate the narrative by simply leaving things out which doesn't get flagged as inaccurate reporting in the same way.

NecessaryScene · 01/04/2022 13:51

The Mail used to be worse. And the Guardian used to be better.

I think these are not unrelated - the Mail no longer has to be quite so disingenuous/mendacious/whatever to make the left look bad, and the Guardian has to be more mendacious to make them look good.

jkrfan · 01/04/2022 13:53

What a great article. Nice to see a photo of the lady behind 'Conservatives for Women' as well.

jkrfan · 01/04/2022 13:57

@Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky

Bloody hell. Front page in the newspaper read by the constituency most likely to vote. The quotes by politicians make them look like absolute fools!

Labour might finally have woken up to the damage they’ve done ti themselves but it’s a loooong way back

Those quotes with photos are great. I well remember the chilling 'Chinese re-education' one from that female Labour MP for Nottingham. I showed my OH this article and explained why I will never vote Labour again (hard to do in my area but I used to be Member when Blair was leader). Their lack of respect for my right to free speech can never be undone.
jkrfan · 01/04/2022 14:00

@Bobnotpop

What a wonderful way to start off the day.

Do you think some readers will think it’s an April fools joke? I mean, some of the MPs responses read like a joke.

That's a good point lol.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/04/2022 14:04

His idea of acceptable feminism is blowjob touting women who agree with him.

When will men learn that it's not about them?

You get a Star for this post.

The Mail also has this on the front page, which helps drive home the point ... in a mail jail, at least

This and a number of other things have been making me wonder over the past few days whether we're seeing the organic growth of a new centre of politics. The centre collapsed a few years ago and people fleeing that collapse contributed to the current polarisation. But nature abhors a vacuum and I'm wondering if the surprising new "alliances" we're seeing is part of a recolonisation of the abandoned centre. Except this time maybe the Daily Mail will be part of it and The Guardian will still be adrift on the fringes.

That is a superbly crafted bit of journalism. The photos, the explanation of "she/her", "when she identified as a truck driver called Marcus" and the Riverdance CD.....

The Mail is a very different beast than in the Dacre days.

That's an interesting idea. There does seem to be a new set of publications and people solidifying around a few central ideas. A publication like Unherd might be an example of the kinds of ideas that they tend to support. Still a range of political positions, for sure, but with a few significant commonalities.
Hasselhoffsheadband · 01/04/2022 14:55

Exactly. 'Will suck dick for socialism' - how very feminist......

Prick.

UnconditionalSurrender · 01/04/2022 14:55

Now I'm conflicted. I cant support anything that uses the Daily Mail or GB news. They are fascist outlets and a vile stain on this country, no matter how much of this campaign I agree with. It starts to align the feminist campaign with the ultra right and that's something I can't get on board with. I see people saying they'll be voting Tory for the first time because of this issue and I despair really.
These outlets are not pro women - they are using it as part of the culture war to rile up the whole anti woke thing. I know people on here will disagree with me and think any publicity is good publicity but I just don't buy that.

Slothtoes · 01/04/2022 14:57

Interesting analysis on here about the new centrist politics emerging. That’s cheered me up. I fucking hope so.

Capable, pragmatic centrism that gets things done with stability and fairness, feels like our only hope to get out of the dead ends of populism, various kinds of extremism. We need to build a decent society for everyone, including those who can’t advocate for themselves. We need to stop all the pissing about in professional politics so we can focus on climate change and economic inequalities because those two are both coming speeding down the track right now to take us all out, if we’re not ready. Spoiler: We’re not ready

Fenlandia · 01/04/2022 15:07

#RespectMySex is trending on Twitter but check out the editorialised text they've put against it. So dishonest, happens every time there's a GC-related hashtag trending, the bastards

Perfectly put. It’s posts like this that make me wish MN had a like button.

With the amount of vile the daily Mail spews about women I really can’t bring myself to support them and claim they’re anything even close to pro women. Intentions matter more than words.

I really wonder when I read something like this - do you actually know any people who vote Tory, or are conservatives?

Because I get the impression that there is this contingent of people who believe that as soon as you cross some ideological line there are all these men who think all women should be barefoot in the kitchen without any voting rights.

I know people all across the political spectrum, and that's just the most ridiculous idea. There are plenty of women conservatives, many who are career women and very successful, in politics, in business, in academia. And lots of non-white voters also prefer the right side of the political spectrum. Including in the US, as it happens.

Who is the "ultra" right supposed to be? Members of mainstream political parties? Anyone who ever watched fox news? Steven PInker?

MangyInseam · 01/04/2022 15:11

I mean, the DM is consistently interested in stories related to women. The Guardian, otoh, is not.

On what possible basis are you concluding they are trying to push some agenda, they don't really care about those stories? They are a newspaper, what they "do" is print news.

MsFogi · 01/04/2022 15:12

If only the Women's Equality Party knew what a woman was and stood for sex based rights - they could have a landslide victory in any elections in the near future (they would pick up both my and dh's votes). But no....they fell at the first hurdle.

This sort of idiocy makes me and several others run a fucking mile from those espousing it.

Tired old demonising tropes that are the antithesis of freedom of thought or speech, North Korea would welcome you with open arms.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 01/04/2022 15:21

Lots of men on Twitter making ageist, misogynistic jokes about these three women.

What. A. Fucking. Surprise.....

Yeah, I mean I am as disappointed as anyone that the 'good side' decided to chuck women right under the bus in order to appease males. But what can you do?
MillyMollyMurphy · 01/04/2022 15:23

The DM is a right wing hate rag. It hates women. You only need to see the language it uses to describe the photos of women on the right hand side. Look at the way it depicted immigrants and Diane Abbot.

Either feminism is intersectional or it is meaningless.
