Yes, it’s the Mail. No, I’m not apologising. This is fantastic!

‘How to’, message inspo, campaign info and more are all here:

Datun · 01/04/2022 08:38

@CrowUpNorth

Most significant female movement since the Suffragettes? Hmmm.
When you realise that a judge actually ruled that believing in biological sex and that it matters was a 'belief not worthy of respect in a democratic society' then yes, it doesn't get much more significant for women.
Chrysanthemum5 · 01/04/2022 08:39

Great article Maya - but the best thing is having the words of politicians right there so people can see them. Well done

FOJN · 01/04/2022 08:41

This is excellent news. The campaign is so simple but sheds so much sunlight.

I am, rather spitefully, pleased to see some of the worst deniers of biology named and shamed.

And I'm glad OP didn't apologise for the DM link. I'm rather tired of adults appearing to be incapable of picking the facts out of an article and discarding or ignoring any bias they think isn't adding to the story.

MsTSwift · 01/04/2022 08:41

Labour will be hating this. They’ve relied on head tilt / pained expression / “complex”/ “please let’s have a debate” (whilst not actually having a debate) approach for too long now. Get off that fence or lose my vote.

Slothtoes · 01/04/2022 08:45

Yes. Well said. Datun
You’ve been a brilliant poster for years on this board. Grateful congratulations to everyone who’s been talking and writing and working towards this point of sunlight in big and small ways for however long. It’s all helped and it will all be worth it for women and girls. Flowers

Westfacing · 01/04/2022 08:50

Someone please tell me that Lisa Nandy didn't really say in relation to a child rapist:

I think trans women are women and they should be accommodated in a prison of their choosing

lobbymp · 01/04/2022 08:50

@Westfacing

Someone please tell me that Lisa Nandy didn't really say in relation to a child rapist:

Thought the same thing. What the actual.

Lalliella · 01/04/2022 08:50

@Slothtoes

OH MY GOD. This really is the tide turning. This actually is it. Front cover of the Daily Mail. (Did you know it’s taken over from the Sun as the most read newspaper?) Call to action from voters. Brilliant, brilliant campaigning by Maya and colleagues. Thank you. Flowers

Please let this not fall apart by becoming a left v right issue with voters- ALL political parties currently have this problem. Misogyny is in every party.

 • with the exception of the communists I think. They avoided gender identity politics. There were threads back awhile on that.
@slothtoes do you have any links to the threads about communists and this issue please? I’m very left wing, and I’m gender critical, and not really feeling that my view on this is in line with many in the Labour Party.

Where will the vote go though?

achillesshield · 01/04/2022 08:51

Just written to my local MP asking for a simple and clear answer. Let's hope this campaign can gain momentum.

FOJN · 01/04/2022 08:53

I'm wondering what things will be like at party HQ's today.

GAHgamel · 01/04/2022 08:55

@Westfacing @lobbymp It's slightly difficult to hear because of the reflexive applause but she says it here:

tabbycatstripy · 01/04/2022 08:55

She did. Nandy thinks a rapist should be in the prison of his choosing.

Datun · 01/04/2022 08:56

@EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn

The start of the fight was back in 2015 or so when Venice Allen organised the first We Need to Talk event, and when Nic Williams sent out teams of women in red T-shirts to tell people what was going on. We’ve come a hell of a long way since then.

Maybe this is the end of the beginning…

Yes. I remember she had to change the venue at the last minute because TRAs had targeted the original place and put the frighteners on them.

It was only because the new venue was accessible to me that I went.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 01/04/2022 08:56

@ResisterRex

Not to derail but if we are talking Mail vs Guardian then the former has this too:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10674561/Student-silenced-Oxford-claim-raped-halls-storm-erupts-gagging-order.html

Oxford college then run by Alan Rusbridger 'imposed blanket gagging order on woman who claimed she was raped - and the former Guardian editor desperately to convince her not to complain'

The Guardian is a misogynistic disgrace. They should be ashamed at their behaviour towards Suzanne Moore, and the constant profiling of that wet biscuit Owen Jones. I was a subscriber for decades and now I sincerely hope they under.
Slothtoes · 01/04/2022 08:56

I hope in time they will consider adding campaign materials to their website for us to use with sitting MPs, to help us remind them that we still expect them to treat women as people while they, you know, have legislative power over us?

Datun · 01/04/2022 08:57

Thank you Slothtoes!

Femalewoman · 01/04/2022 09:00

The answer is: NO WOMEN CANNOT HAVE A PENIS for anyone that is a bit unsure.

GeneLovesJezebel · 01/04/2022 09:01

@Westfacing

Someone please tell me that Lisa Nandy didn't really say in relation to a child rapist:

I think trans women are women and they should be accommodated in a prison of their choosing

So women don’t get a choice, but men do.
Westfacing · 01/04/2022 09:03
**@Westfacing* @lobbymp* It's slightly difficult to hear because of the reflexive applause but she says it here:
Thank you @GAHgamel - yes she quite clearly says 'of their choosing', plus other nonsense.

I do despair.

Femalewoman · 01/04/2022 09:06

Amazing women in the article. If all women stand up for their rights instead of pandering to men and their handmaidens and what men want then things could be better.

crumpet · 01/04/2022 09:06

Does anyone know why the article only has 4 comments? ( with thousands of likes mind you)

Blackandwhitehorse · 01/04/2022 09:08

Maya is an absolute inspiration for women. Only realised what was going on a year ago and what she’s achieved in the face of all of this is incredible!

I’m in a Lib Dem or Tory area (Labour have no chance realistically), and they are hot on the local door stop campaigning, especially LDs so I look forward to a chat with them..

AndStand · 01/04/2022 09:11
