Woman on ward - complains about male patient. Is discharged.

Going on twitter. She was in a Women’s ward (signage says ‘women’ but later this was disputed by staff).

Another patient on ward ‘Annie’ (not real name). Visitor comes in ‘Hello Fred’.

Woman patient complains that there is a male in the ward. Staff come on handed and tell her that there isn’t (and that there were no single sec wards) - and treated as if she is a troublemaker.

Woman mysteriously discharged PDQ, although not quite feeling well enough in herself.

Baroness is on the case.

cor, it really is astonishing that anyone ever manages to have a baby innit? dh and i drew lots for which one would get pregnant and just kept our fingers crossed that we'd correctly identified each other's sex (and our own!)
Well, that's a twisting of what I said or blatantly missing the point - how has that got anything to do with what you quoted?!
It's not about biologically female bodies giving birth, yes we all know that's what happens.
You do realise that that's not what the thread or indeed what we're talking about right?!
It's the when people are going on a woman's looks and deciding whether she looks woman enough whatever the fuck that means.

EeeICouldRipATissue · 03/02/2022 19:54

But you don't give a shiny shit about women being at risk of harm and sexual assault because men have been allowed to access their sex segregated spaces
Yes I do '' give a shit. ''
Nobody should feel unsafe and of course I don't want anyone to be abused.
Nobody WAS unsafe though, what doesn't sit right is the whole demonising of a whole group of people just because you (general you) deem them a threat.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/02/2022 19:55

Men by definition can never look ‘woman enough’ because they’re men

A biological woman will always look woman enough because that’s what they are

CharlotteRose90 · 03/02/2022 19:55

Nope not a chance. I’ve always been on female wards or private ones. I would not stay if I was put on a unisex bay . Not a chance on earth. We as women are entitled to privacy.

EeeICouldRipATissue · 03/02/2022 19:57

Like the biological woman this thread is about, you mean?
Yeah, that didn't work out so well for her, did it as she clearly didn't look '' woman '' enough.

MrsWooster · 03/02/2022 20:01

It’s interesting that Barley and Eel only turned up to wokescold AFTER Gilly tweeted that the person on her award was female after all. Why weren’t they present from the start, defending TWAW and its logical consequence that women (cunty ones) have no right to single sex spaces.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 03/02/2022 20:04

Nobody WAS unsafe though, what doesn't sit right is the whole demonising of a whole group of people just because you (general you) deem them a threat.

So you don't think there should be any female single sex spaces because that would essentially be 'demonising a whole group of people' (ie. Men).

My husband is a lovely man, not a threat and would never hurt anyone. No one would be unsafe if he were in a female only hospital ward, so is it right he should stay in one?

Rheopecticfluid · 03/02/2022 20:06

On this occasion no.

What about all the other occasions when men are in women's sex segregated spaces? Does that concern you?

Rheopecticfluid · 03/02/2022 20:08

Yeah, that didn't work out so well for her, did it as she clearly didn't look '' woman '' enough.

Wouldn't have been an issue once. Until people like you started pushing to including men in women's spaces. Now women have to be extra vigilant. As the likelihood is so much higher.

You must be proud of your contribution to this situation.

Cuck00soup · 03/02/2022 20:10

I started a thread about this at the weekend, but it stayed a bit under the radar. I hope it's OK to link it here.

It looks like hospitals will no longer be fined for breaching single sex wards anyway. Women just don't matter.

Fines for hospitals who breach single sex ward guidelines have been relaxed. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4467170-fines-for-hospitals-who-breach-single-sex-ward-guidelines-have-been-relaxed

barleybadminton · 03/02/2022 20:13

@Rheopecticfluid

And if medical staff had decided this woman was trans and placed her on the men's ward and she was abused that's just fine then is it?

Oh your faux concern is touching.
Shame you don't extend that to women being forced to share sex segregated spaces with men.
But in answer to your concern, if birth certificates were accurate rather than altered, there would be no need to place anyone in the space of the opposite sex.
Would there.

How many people have their birth certificate with them when they are admitted to hospital?
EeeICouldRipATissue · 03/02/2022 20:17

Never mind you know, the woman kicking off at the other woman, she's an innocent in all this is she?!
Trans people and allies, this is your fault!
Look what you made us do! Hmm

barleybadminton · 03/02/2022 20:18

So is anyone going to answer the question of what criteria medical staff should use to allocate sex if someone is unable to communicate or they are suspicious that someone wasn't born the sex they say they are?

Rheopecticfluid · 03/02/2022 20:18

How many people have their birth certificate with them when they are admitted to hospital?

Well NHS records are helpful for that. As long as they are recorded accurately. Which currently they are not, esp when birth certs are altered. And obviously everyone's NHS record is accessed when in hospital.

Didn't you know that?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 03/02/2022 20:18

What about keeping and using accurate medical records, Barley?

BlissfullyIgnorant · 03/02/2022 20:18

@DoubleYouOhEmAyEn

We are being gaslit. It's enough to drive a woman insane. Mysoginistic bullying on a huge scale.
When was the last time you saw any newspaper mention 'people with testicles'? The world seems to be filled with men and people with vaginas/who menstruate It's all going to rat-shit
Rheopecticfluid · 03/02/2022 20:19

Look what you made us do!

That's right. So own it.

WorkingClassWoman · 03/02/2022 20:20

If your birth certificate matches your biological sex then hospitals can assign you appropriately. Since they rely on self id and medical records that have been changed so they don’t correctly identify sex we have a problem.

If people like you weren't insisting on making female spaces mixed sex, and ensuring that women can never be somewhere guaranteed to be free from males, then situations like this one wouldn't arise would they?

People are frequently admitted to hospital with no ID or not enough detail to establish their records.

Medical records should record biological sex accurately, for many reasons. That's what medical treatment should be based on.

It's the hypocrisy that got me and/or lack of self awareness.
As in Look what you made me do!
Seeing as that's what anyone being abusive does and says, I'm surprised (actually, no I"m not) that when it's somebody so called GC doing it, it gets overlooked, forgiven or yeah, so own it!

And which people might you be referring to here?

Yes, a distressed, scared woman in hospital who feels unable to trust medical staff is innocent.

I don't know if you've been refusing to read other people's posts over the years, but this has been pointed out again and again: if you make it clear that wards will be mixed sex and that staff will be instructed to lie about it, women will be placed on high alert. If women feel they have to screen their wardmates personally for their own safety, there will be false positives.

So perhaps don't lie to female patients in the first place?

What you seem to want is a culture where male people can be placed in women's hospital wards, and no-one reacts; no-one self-excludes, no-one feels increased suspicion, no-one becomes more cynical about media reporting.

It's not going to happen.

I don't really understand your post here, but my question for you is this?

Do you or do you not think that women have the right to a single sex, female only ward where they can be guaranteed that everyone in there is actually female?

Yes or no?
