If I were a patient at his surgery I would want it on my notes that I do not want to ever see or be treated by him.

FissionMailed · 02/12/2021 16:34

I have to say, that I suspect that once a few people in the area know about it, the gossip will spread.

I'm not local to Liverpool at all, if anyone here is they might spread the word some?
Has it been on the local Liverpool news?

hallouminatus · 02/12/2021 16:40

Yes it has:

hallouminatus · 02/12/2021 16:41

Don't know about TV/radio

nauticant · 02/12/2021 16:42

I posted this before but in the hearing Harrop implied that his goal was to be a doctor focusing on trans people:

which would include handing out powerful drugs to children.

Ekofisk · 02/12/2021 16:44

Yes, it’s in the Echo and names the GP practice.

RedToothBrush · 02/12/2021 16:47

Can people really be that arrogant, lack that much self awareness?

You are aware of this building in London called 'Parliament' right?

Interestingly I can't find this story on the Echo's FB page. That's not somewhere thats usually short on people sharing their opinions 🤔

BlueTouchPaper · 02/12/2021 17:26

Mind you, it's a sad state of affairs when you feel vindicated by the bloody Daily Mail. Still though

I was just mulling this DM issue over.

I've only comparatively recently (last year or so) been made aware of the ludicrous situation of what perfectly reasonable statements I can and can't make nowadays. Often by people younger and cleverer (!) than me. I was also encouraged by some trending threads to inform myself. Having informed myself as much as I've been able, I'm thoroughly shocked how easily some people, clever people, people I admire, have eaten up and swallowed a fantasy. An ideology that leaves science behind a drawn curtain. That some articles I've read, describe Professor Robert Winston as a "TV doctor who needs to catch up with new research"!!!!! And then to find that people who have never heard of him agree!

It's heart sinking stuff when I see how far this ideology has inveigled itself into being considered absolute truth, enough to enchant a whole generation.

I'm mid 60s. So are most of my friends, and they know nothing about any of this. I've made it my business to apprise them. I think the DM are better placed than me to inform people.

So back to the beginning. Having been on MN for a couple of years, I've picked up that everybody hates the Daily Mail. Has this opinion changed?

YABU - no it hasn't.
YANBU - yes it has.

FindTheTruth · 02/12/2021 17:31

Yes I searched for it too. They reported AH's other self reported stories in the past but chose not to publish this one. why?

nauticant · 02/12/2021 17:35

If a large part of the media, particularly those entities who we're supposed to think of as being right-thinking, ignore a big story of public interest, or worse, manipulate the facts in their reporting to mislead their audiences, then you begin to realise we're better off with a disobedient and diverse warts-and-all media. The day we get a complete tame media subscribing to an identical set of views that are held by our betters as being the right ones, we're in trouble.

ShagMeRiggins · 02/12/2021 17:59

For the record, the word Deplorable was written by the MOTS, not me. Happy to see it live on (because many of his actions were deplorable), but need to give credit where it’s due.

mrswarthog · 02/12/2021 18:18

Apart from his other work, the surgery he works at is the University GPs, most of the patients are staff or students. (I was a patient there when I was at LivUni) and are more likely to hold similar opinions.

Ah yes, I remember the one about his tyres being slashed whilst he was working in the call centre. In Edge Hill(?), where that's hardly a rare occurrence.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn

As if Harrop was ever going to listen to a female mentor.

I like to think it was a deliberate decision to give him a female mentor.

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/12/2021 21:33

@BlueTouchPaper
YANBU
The Mail and MoS have been providing excellent coverage of the debate for some years now. Today, in addition to the Harrop article, they have covered the RCM and the American transathlete winning all the prizes (both have threads on here)

@ShagMeRiggins it was the Tribunal that described his online behaviour as "Deplorable" in their findings.

LOJ’s trying to find his spin where its all JKR’s fault anyway.
Redshoeblueshoe · 02/12/2021 22:51

If LOJ is looking for advice on spinning I suggest he looks at the thread on how to wash a cashmere jumper !

Press gently seems to be the advice Grin

Thanks for correcting. I am woeful at searching upthread for things on phone and really shouldn’t spread misinformation, no matter how well intended. Accuracy is so important in these matters.

Dr Moody reckons she knows who leaked.

Would you want to be treated by a GP who had been suspended for a month because they weren't fit to practice? Is he suddenly fit to practice on day 31?

If he is labelled as the 'suspended unfit doctor' it doesn't matter what its for.

I have to say, that I suspect that once a few people in the area know about it, the gossip will spread. No one will care what he has actually done or said (Oh the irony of having something in common with JKR), they just won't want to be treated by him if there is an alternative available.

The only downside is the shortage of doctors, so his career won't be that affected, but he certainly won't have his pick of the best posts. He will get the rather more crappy jobs no one else applies to.

No, but he’s now working for two NHS Gender Identity Services - in Liverpool and the Wales Gender Service.

From The Critic article.

“This isn’t a “free speech” issue.
^^
Dr Harrop does not have any protected rights pursuant to article 10 ECHR to threaten and insult members of the public as an identified doctor.
^^
Regulated professions are regulated for a reason; membership carries with it enhanced social and financial status as well as opportunities to have significant impact on the lives of others. All of this demands high standards of behaviour. As the tribunal found:

“His actions brought the profession into disrepute, undermining public confidence in the profession and the standards of conduct expected from members of the profession … Whilst Dr Harrop has a right to his views and to express them, the manner and thought processes he demonstrated raised concerns regarding the extent of his insight, and his inability to fully appreciate the wider context of his obligations as a doctor.””

Returning to this thread now because his inappropriate online behaviour included twitter exchanges with the person previously convicted of a sexual offence against a minor, currently being discussed on another thread.

WarriorN · 18/08/2023 14:30

Interesting thanks for the bump.

ColinTheGenderMinotaur · 18/08/2023 14:39

For reference purposes:

Dr Adrian Harrop is currently working for the Welsh Gender Service/Cardiff & Vale University Health Board.
