I was really surprised that they didn't find he had intended to intimidate caroline farrow. All of the posting about her children, changing his banner and location to near where she lives, and the 'tick tock' clock emojis etc. They assessed most (or all?) of that evidence. I am sure the person on the Clapham omnibus would consider that to be an attempt at intimidation.

I think it was a case of what he was admitting to was enough to reach a watertight conclusion and sanction, without being undermined at appeal. Courts, tribunals and planning seem to be very keen on this, otherwise it can go on forever. It does make the evidence bar higher though (unless you are very unlucky).

IANAL, but it's my understanding that it's generally difficult to prove intimidation, which is why the police/CPS often end up using public order legislation - which does not require proving intent - to control types of antisocial behaviour that most people would consider intimidation.
vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 01/12/2021 10:30

That article on Glinner's site is a great example of how men and male people can intimidate women and female people without breaching the law.

This man has managed to harass Caroline from inside a tribunal examining his fitness to practice. Indeed, he used the process as a tool to further intimidate her.

That is extraordinary. It's in plain sight and no one could do anything about it because the law and the systems are not set up to take account of what is obviously disgusting and threatening behaviour.

And he's just one man. This shit must go on all the time.

The message I get from this case, and the account of what happened to Caroline is that women just don't matter, systems do not protect us and there is no justice for the crimes perpetrated against us.

I am so sorry, Caroline. You did not deserve this.

@BoreOfWhabylon

Thanks *@RhymesWithOrange*. Awful headline.
I posted a comment about the headline that didn’t get through Hmm but I’m please others’ comments did and they’ve now changed it.
VexedofVirginiaWater · 01/12/2021 12:20

I know they've changed the headline but tbh I don't think it's that much better:

GP suspended over offensive tweets about people who opposed his pro-transgender views

It implies that the people who opposed him had anti-transgender views and that was why they objected.

Harrop is getting a lot of attention, thankfully he always wanted to be a famous doctor.

Win, win I say

Also implies that Harrop's targets weren't almost exclusively women...

Here's Ben's take on it all. "Exclusive" interview!

Is there an archived version anywhere? I don't want to give vice the clicks.

FlyingOink · 01/12/2021 14:43

“The outcome reached is fair and proportionate in the circumstances. Ultimately, confidence in the medical profession as a whole is more important than the career of any one particular doctor. And if being suspended means that I can play my part in making sure that public confidence in the profession is maintained, then so be it.”

Surprised at this.

Personwithrage · 01/12/2021 14:49

Will he not learn?!

That interview is highly critical of the GMC and misrepresents his actions over and over again. This was not an investigation into his tweets that are supportive of LGBT rights as it states. Ffs.

Quite.

This has been open weaponisation of the process to punish witnesses for seeking to follow proper channels to deal with inappropriate behaviours from others.

Women having seen how this has been openly acceptable, would at this point have to be very brave indeed to face making a complaint regardless of how they had been treated. It will very effectively indeed discourage women from bearing witness. Which was the intent.

Rather like rape.

The justice system does not work for women. At least, not the female ones. (Story of our bloody existence.)

Yes. Put the URL into web.archive.org and it's available there.

Good god. He genuinely has learnt nothing from all this (let alone important and unforgettable lessons).

Im actually amazed at the total fucking lack of insight.

Enough4me · 01/12/2021 15:09

Reading that report you'd think people had been attacking him on social media because he has trans patients.

There's no quotes of the things he said, which directly led to his month suspension.

Personwithrage · 01/12/2021 15:24

It's an interesting insight into what he and those around him see this as being about.

Which in turn demonstrates that he understands nothing about the actual issues.

He's still an arrogant man that has no intention of gaining insight into his prejudice.
Despite urging his compatriots to caution it seems he doesn't intend taking his own advice.

The spin is amazing isn't it?

Totally innocent doctor suspended for a month for nobly standing up to monsters.

It's like the facts are irrelevant. Except to the commenters on the Times article who have no problem distinguishing between alternative facts and actual ones.

KittenKong · 01/12/2021 15:37

Someone I know (who listens to me patiently and nods, then changes the subject) - ‘hey kitten, I see that doctor you were talking has been struck off... who is going to want to see him as a doctor - no one will trust him ever again?’

The arrogance of the man giving yet another interview, after he has been publicly & professionally rebuked, indicates that he has learned nothing from the tribunal. It’s only a matter of time before he torpedoes his career completely.

BreadInCaptivity · 01/12/2021 16:10

The 34-year-old said: “Having my personal life, actions, professionalism, and personality debated on a public stage has been horrendous. It’s been humiliating and embarrassing, but I am coming out of this stronger and more determined.”

It's all about him isn't it.....

No mention of his victims - just trying to paint a picture of him being victimised.

What about them? Having their details leaked to Vice and their full statements on Twitter?

Well he's shown up the reflection/remorse he displayed in the tribunal to be worth nothing.

I must be stupid. I actually thought he might have the presence of mind and respect for those he bullied to keep his head down and nose clean.

Datun · 01/12/2021 16:24

Jesus that vice article! Ben Hunte is determined to do a hatchet job on this man.

Not one, single, solitary word of remorse or contrition.

Just me, me, me, more me ...

... and scene

I'm startled if the mentor/supervisor who described AH's mid-tribunal interview as unwise signed off on this post-tribunal interview. That feels bold at best.
