I wish she hadn't. Bullies should not be allowed to win. It just emboldens them.

Yes, I'm gutted although i do understand how difficult and stressful it would have been for her to continue in post. I wish her well.

JustcameoutGC · 28/10/2021 17:18

Oh no. I hope she puts in a claim for constructive dismissal. The university have hung her out to dry

Grumpyosaurus · 28/10/2021 17:18

Aw shit. What a bloody shame.

In her shoes, I'd be considering suing for constructive dismissal.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 28/10/2021 17:18

Yeah, the privileged students playing pretend oppression will be celebrating.

BettyFilous · 28/10/2021 17:21

Very sad news, but I echo the sentiments above. Ready with my spade should some collective gardening effort be needed.

Kathleen 💐

Floisme · 28/10/2021 17:21

Oh I'm very sorry to hear that. My best wishes to Kathleen Stock. Onwards and upwards.

girafferafferaffe · 28/10/2021 17:21

I'm really sad. They'll think it's a win. She must have been through hell.

heathspeedwell · 28/10/2021 17:22

This is very sad news, I hope she's getting lots of support from friends and family. Sussex has lost a very gifted academic.

ArtemesiaK · 28/10/2021 17:24

I can well understand why she might want to put this behind her. I hope the thugs who bullied her are held to account. I'm sure we're all ready and willing to help plant her allotment if she needs help....

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 28/10/2021 17:26

I hope she has a spectacular job lined up somewhere else.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 28/10/2021 17:27

Completely understand. It's easy for us to sit here posting anonymously, but I for one have not been so brave as to speak out. Yet.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 28/10/2021 17:28

That’s really sad but I’m full of admiration she stood it for as long she did. To get death threats and the police saying they can’t guarantee your safety, the stress must be off the scale

Youcancallmeval · 28/10/2021 17:29

I don't blame her. She shouldn't have to take one for the cause to the detriment of every aspect of her life.

WinterTrees · 28/10/2021 17:31

I'm sure the entitled kid bullies will be parading this as a victory, but I'm also sure they'll also be a bit gutted that she's removed their excuse for performative victimhood.

Let's face it, none of them actually felt remotely 'unsafe'. They loved the drama of being perpetually offended. Now she's no longer acting as the villain in their narcissistic soap opera Prof Stock will be able to write and speak freely, and the BBC will have her on lots of programmes and panels Smile

SelfPortraitWithPterodactyl · 28/10/2021 17:32

I hope she has a spectacular job lined up somewhere else. Absolutely. Such a shame and I hope she's OK. Flowers

I get the impression that it was her union, not the uni, which let her down - but if there's any call for gardening I'll be there with my spade.

Wildfart · 28/10/2021 17:32

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

I hope she has a spectacular job lined up somewhere else.
I'm sure she has. She's got a great future ahead of her.

We need women who stand up to be counted. She's marvelous.

Bollockstothat · 28/10/2021 17:34

I hope she puts in a claim for constructive dismissal

Some people suggesting on twitter that the careful wording of her and Sussex's announcements suggested some kind of settlement might already have been agreed. Hope so, for her sake.

OnlyTheTitosaurusOfTheIceberg · 28/10/2021 17:37

I hope she’s snapped up by somewhere with more moral fibre than Sussex, the cabal of snivelling little milquetoasts.

ChateauMargaux · 28/10/2021 17:40

I am so sorry to hear this but not surprised. What a horrible situation to be in. Brave lady. No one is insisting trans people don't exist, they are insisting that people cannot change sex.

ScreamingMeMeSawUs · 28/10/2021 17:41
Sad
prudencepuffin · 28/10/2021 17:42

Titosaurus - I`m sure she will be. Her intelligence shines out, unlike the nasty toe rags who were after her blood. Sadly, I dont think she will be the last professor to get this kind of shit.

PronounssheRa · 28/10/2021 17:45

I don't think constructive dismissal is on the cards from the article Kathleen Stock, a philosophy professor, said she was “sad” to be leaving and praised the “admirable and decent” approach of the university’s leadership but said she felt unable to continue in her role.

MrsColon · 28/10/2021 17:49

I'm really glad she's resigned - I have been truly afraid for her physical safety, and clearly the university and the police have been as useful as a chocolate teapot in finding those students responsible for the harassment/prosecuting them.

Changemusthappen · 28/10/2021 17:50

The university have acted poorly here, have they come out and say that the bullying and treatment of Kathleen Stock is not acceptable in their institution and hauled the offenders over the coals? Everyone can see clearly what happened here. It's all very well saying she was welcome back and freedom of speach should upheld however what have they done to support and enable this?

Can't believe anyone would want to go to Sussex University after this.

Bugger.
