I wish she hadn't. Bullies should not be allowed to win. It just emboldens them.

Correction. It THE lead story.

BettyFilous · 28/10/2021 22:08

@nauticant

This is a lead story on The World Tonight on Radio 4. That's one of the more hard news programmes on the channel. For some reason the story didn't get picked up on the Today programme at 5pm, presented by Evan Davis.
Yeah, it’s mysterious. 🤔
GCAcademic · 28/10/2021 22:11

@SammyScrounge

Now who will they target next now that they know the authorities will do nothing to stop them?
Indeed. This is a frightening day for women in academia. Students now know that they can bully, harass and make physical threats against any member of staff they don't like, and force them off campus. The police will do nothing and UCU will back the student, not its members.

The Universities minister expressing outrage can fuck off too. Successive tory governments have empowered students with neoliberal zeal, telling them that they can demand what they like with their £9250. You really didn't think that would affect academic freedom in the slightest?

nauticant · 28/10/2021 22:13

They've got fucking Tatchell on and he's fucking lying through his teeth. At least Razia Iqbal isn't simply sucking up this rubbish.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/10/2021 22:16

Go Selina Todd! Great clear explanation.

Cuck00soup · 28/10/2021 22:16

How very sad. As PP have said, she has to look after herself but what a shame it has come to this.

And what a shame that students will miss out on her teaching.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 28/10/2021 22:16

What did Tatchell say?

nauticant · 28/10/2021 22:19

There's definitely a faction at the BBC who really want to expose what's going on. I think they're aware that the BBC could easily turn into a Sussex University of the media world.

nauticant · 28/10/2021 22:21

In a roundabout way he basically said that although no one should receive the treatment Stock got, the problem is that her views, as misrepresented by him, harm the trans community.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 28/10/2021 22:22

Thanks Nauticant.

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 28/10/2021 22:25

It's that big 'but' again isn't it....

^No one should be harassed and bullied to the point that they have to leave their job BUT if you are going to express views that deviate from the approved dogma then......🤷‍♂️'

SpringCrocus · 28/10/2021 22:26

Am incandescent with anger

LizzieSiddal · 28/10/2021 22:27

He also provided “evidence” of Kathleen “not supporting the trans community” when she writes that “Sex trumps gender ID”. Hmm

And as Selina Todd said, that is based on evidence.

PricklesTheHedgehog · 28/10/2021 22:30

It seems so unfair. I hope Kathleen knows there are so many who agree with her. I hope she can read read this supportive thread.

SammyScrounge · 28/10/2021 22:33

Perhaps there is a case for cancelling gender studies. Now that the students have
established that they will determine what is taught, there seems little point in giving it subject status.
It is also time to root out trans teaching from schools to protect children from indoctrination.
Right now there are lecturers and teachers
all over the UK who are falling silent for fear of getting the Stock treatment.

SammyScrounge · 28/10/2021 22:39

Is there a place Professor Stock can go where activists won't find her? That is the real horror of these campaigns - they will stick to her like glue.

CruellaDeVilla · 28/10/2021 22:47

Those comments under the Times article are encouraging

So sorry she has resigned. But completely understand why.

GCmiddle · 28/10/2021 22:47

Kathleen Stock has been hounded out of her job for expressing views which everyone knew to be true until a few years ago and which practically everyone still believes, whether they feel free to say so or not.
Who will be next? Things are already looking very difficult for Jo Phoenix. They have been difficult for long time for Michele Moore. Selina Todd and Rosa Freedman get a lot of stick. Where does it end?

LumosSolem · 28/10/2021 23:10

I've just ordered her book as a tiny way of showing some solidarity.

I hope sales skyrocket after this.

The child bullies may feel pleased right now but Kathleen has brought so much sunlight and even this will continue to do so.

REDHERO · 28/10/2021 23:16

That's awful.

The pro trans bullies have won. Men who want to be women but bully women into their though processes to protect the men who now think they are women's rights. I hate these men women who aren't women and their baying bullying supporters.

REDHERO · 28/10/2021 23:17

The only community that appears to matter is trans. What about women the ones who are biologically women. We are supposed to bow down and step aside and let men who want to be women dictate now.

MargaritaPie · 28/10/2021 23:18

"In her shoes, I'd be considering suing for constructive dismissal"

How? She left entirely on her own accord.

I would like to thank the students and staff of Sussex University who spoke up and raised concerns regarding her views and her association with the controversial LGB Alliance.

MargaritaPie · 28/10/2021 23:21

"Is there a place Professor Stock can go where activists won't find her?"

We could start a crowdfund for her so she can start up her own Uni?

nauticant · 28/10/2021 23:23

Oh, I see that MargaritaPie has now switched their attention to Professor Stock. The focus of their attention was on Marion Millar until this morning but for some reason it's now switched.
