I wish she hadn't. Bullies should not be allowed to win. It just emboldens them.

“OnlyTheTitosaurusOfTheIceberg

I hope she’s snapped up by somewhere with more moral fibre than Sussex, the cabal of snivelling little milquetoasts“

Hear hear. I would have loved it if she’d faced it down, but totally support her decision to go. She has borne a LOT, and it has benefited us all. Thank you to Kathleen. The statement is indeed carefully worded. I will watch developments with interest. If the university, having (finally) acknowledged what she has been subjected to, take no action against perpetrators it will be a shocking failure.

GrimDamnFanjo · 28/10/2021 18:11

So sad for DocStock.
I'm hoping she is now free to take up another role where she's safe and supported.

userlotsanumbers · 28/10/2021 18:18

What a disgrace. I will advise any woman I know to avoid Sussex University like the plague from now on, should they moot that possibility.

LoislovesStewie · 28/10/2021 18:19

Oh no! This is awful no-one should be forced out of their job like this. Why is it OK for the thought police to get their way?

BreadInCaptivity · 28/10/2021 18:22

I'm sorry it's come to this.

I really wish her the best and hope that's she's reached a suitable settlement with the University and is (when ready) snapped up in a job elsewhere.

I'm sure there will be cohort of people celebrating this news. They should actually be reflecting on the fact that they've driven a Lesbian out of her job because she stood up for what not only what she believed but had spent years researching.

It doesn't reflect well on the University that they allowed this unacceptable level of sustained attacks on her whilst those responsible (both academics and students) seem to have (so far) escaped censure.

Good luck KS, I wish you well Thanks

Gingernaut · 28/10/2021 18:24

This is a genuine tragedy.

She is an intelligent, fair and rigorous philosopher and was a credit to the university.

I wish her well.

Not just women, tbh. I wouldn't let my DS attend a place like this.
JulesRimetStillGleaming · 28/10/2021 18:26

She's far too good for Sussex. Sorry to be a snob but it's true. I'm sorry for her but I'm hoping this opens up far better doors for her.

KohlaParasaurus · 28/10/2021 18:27

Kathleen Stock's first responsibility is to look after herself. I'm sad and sorry that she hasn't had more assertive support to stay in her role and hope she will be able to develop her career somewhere better.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 28/10/2021 18:28

The university stepped up partially in the end but they shouldn’t have let it get to that level and should have clamped down harder on the intimidation at the end.

ButtonSister · 28/10/2021 18:31

Where is the best place to buy her book from (ethically)?

jay55 · 28/10/2021 18:33

Don't blame her. No one should have to deal with the level of threats she did.
I hope whoever the next target is has a much swifter response from their employer.

Carrotsticks23 · 28/10/2021 18:34

If I was a Sussex university student right now I'd be utterly utterly ashamed and embarrassed to be a member of an institution that bullied a woman out of her job for talking about womens rights. Its disgraceful. The absolutely irony of talking about feeling safe on campus whilst simultaneously starting a protest about an individual.

Sussex is supposed to be a Russel group university, what happened to debate? How can you operate as a university if you can't give an opinion? It makes a real mockery of them as a university

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 28/10/2021 18:36

Really hope the BBC cover this - they have done stories on Kathleen recently. It would be great for the general public to see how a female academic has been hounded out of her job by a bunch of aggressive and intimidating students.

'Most marginalised' my absolute arse.

Sending strength to Kathleen, I hope she is OK.Flowers

BettyFilous · 28/10/2021 18:37

It was covered on the R4 6pm news.

ChaToilLeam · 28/10/2021 18:39

Oh no, that’s so sad. I hope she has something brilliant lined up, she is worthy of greater things.

BrilliantBetty · 28/10/2021 18:42

The way those students actually was horrible. Nasty, bullying behaviour. I hope there is a proper investigation in to this bullying and harassment.

thirdfiddle · 28/10/2021 18:43

While I'd love to see another uni snap her up and stand up more successfully to the bullies, Prof Stock has also written a very successful book and done impressive campaigning work. Lots of potential avenues for someone of her talents.
She's a big loss to Sussex but very much look forward to hearing her plans.

Livelifeinthebuslane · 28/10/2021 18:43

I just heard it on the news, they explained it by saying she'd been called transphobic because she didn't believe gender identity was more important than biological sex. I really wonder what people who aren't involved in the debate made of that, it must be baffling.

Scoutingformygirls · 28/10/2021 18:44

I'm so shocked and sad to read this.

I'm very happy to get my spade out of the shed.

I've ordered her book from Bookshop.org but it's out of stock

Purpletomato · 28/10/2021 18:44

Such a shame. I hope things go onwards and upwards for her now.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 28/10/2021 18:44

So sorry to hear this and hope she is OK.

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 28/10/2021 18:46

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

All of this. Too late Sussex uni. Far too late. I imagine they'll consider the matter closed now, I'll be very surprised if any of the little wankers find themselves in hot water for their actions.

But first and foremost she needs to put herself first and do what is best for her. For her safety, for her health and for her loved ones. Onwards and upwards to better things and better days ahead.

It does piss me off no end that the usual crybullies will be online celebrating their 'victory'. And if any of them are stalking MN (we know they do) - then crow while you can shitweasels, the sunlight is pouring in now, it cannot be stopped, people are waking up to this madness and hopefully in the not too distant future any shit like this gets pulled again and the grown ups will tell you to piss off like they should have done in the first place
