I've never watched Dave Chappelle before or even really heard of him. Watched The Closer after all the fuss. Not really my thing, however it stayed with me after watching it - he is very provocative.

My thoughts:
He's very offensive & very clever;
It's a shame he conflates sex & gender - but pretty much everyone outside of GC world does;
It was very touching and very supportive of trans people. But because he also criticises & takes the piss- which he does to everyone- there is a massive meltdown;
And this is entirely his point - TRAs think they are untouchable and the cult must never be questioned or ridiculed. DC put them in his firing line like he does everyone else;
This is not hate. They are not being specifically targeted;
I think every word DC says is deliberate and well crafted.

I will watch some more.

No, no they don't.

My eldest child is doing modern history this year, in the one history class she needs to have to graduate from highschool. They have not touched on anything to do with the Chinese cultural revolution. Recently they have spent a whole week on theories about the JFK assassination.

This is why I find the whole identity politics approach to teaching history crazy, while saying it will wake the students to injustice, it ignores all the actual history that might give some insight into the human heart and the wielding of political power.

this thread makes me sad for my two queer kids and the classmates they will be growing up with. You are going to raise children who refer to mine as the 'alphabet people' and that makes me angry.

For someone of my generation, the casual use by younger people of the word 'queer' is shocking. It is still used as hate speech where I live (which isn't a trendy part of London or a Californian university campus), and for many of my generation it carries the same sort of negative and abusive associations as use of the n-word.

There are plenty of gay people who find the ever increasing acronym quite funny and a little silly.
