Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Do we have it anywhere on record that Stonewall does/does not support people to express their sexuality as exclusively homosexual?

The expectation that lesbians accept partners with penises was one of the things that really made me start questioning gender identity politics more closely.

Exclusively homosexual lesbian spaces have disappeared as viewed to be transphobic. Just look on any lesbian dating apps and many of the users are male and be-penised. Some may be fine with this, but all of my lesbian friends are not, and they feel very disenfranchised, but equally they feel unable to speak out. Just look at what happened in Manchester.

I just can't wrap my head around how the prevoiusly stalwart and highly effective champion of gay rights has now essentially outlawed exclusive homosexuality.

Have they made any statements that make this stance clear? Have they actively said they do not support exclusively homosexual spaces?

They have redefined 'homosexual' so itno longer means same sex attracted.

OvaHere · 30/08/2021 10:24

Not explicitly as far as I know. They updated their website glossary at some point to describe homosexual as an outdated term and to make their description of gay/lesbian as same gender attracted rather than same sex.

So I think we can read plenty into that. They've also resisted responding to all the gay men and lesbian who have written to them asking for dialogue about this change.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/08/2021 10:29

Didn't they also go on record during the GRA consultation as wanting sex removed from the list of protected characteristics in the Equality Act?

JustcameoutGC · 30/08/2021 10:32

It does seem very odd that in their huge glossary of terms there is no description of people who are exclusively attracted to people of the same sex as opposed to gender.

They have been refusing to engage with gay people asking this entirely legitimate question? Jesus. I know my lesbian friends are in despair, I haven't asked my male gay friends. Will be interesting to see if there is a difference.

They are also working to remove ‘non-disclosure’ of sex in laws around consent.

Ie. They believe no prospective sexual partner has the right to know what sex their partner is regardless of that partner’s gender identity.

NecessaryScene · 30/08/2021 10:38

IIRC, Stonewall did make the mistake of tweeting something about "same-sex attraction" at some point in 2020, but rapidly deleted it.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/08/2021 10:43

Didn't somebody go through an annual report from Stonewall a while ago and count up how many times various words were used? It was an eye opener. Trans and variants topped the list, lesbian was at the bottom.

JustcameoutGC · 30/08/2021 10:44

The L has always been at the bottom of the alphabet soup, since T arrived they barely register.

I would be really interested to hear from some of the TRAs on here.
@MargaritaPie @BelindaB do you believe that exclusively homosexual people, defined as those only attracted to people of the same sex (not gender), have the right to define themselves as such and to have spaces, physical and on line, dedicated to them? Should Stonewall support their interests?

Thanks, nauticant. Some striking stuff there.

'The expectation that lesbians accept partners with penises'

Who expects this? Not the vast majority of trans people. It's a bullshit myth put around by transphobes.

JustcameoutGC · 30/08/2021 11:20

You do know that if a lesbian states that she will date date a person with a penis on a dating site, she gets kicked off? There are zero dating sites for exclusively same sex attracted women.

Transphobes masquerading as transwomen who call themselves lesbians?

Interesting take there, Blinda

JustcameoutGC · 30/08/2021 11:22

The massage is clear, if you don't accept partners with penises, you are not welcome, even in the spaces you created.

So, do you believe that exclusively same sex attracted women have the right to define themselves as such, without being called transphobes, and should they have the right to spaces, physical and on line that align with their sexuality.

They can define themselves as they like. If someone wanted to set up a trans-exclusionary dating app, who would stop them?
Deliriumoftheendless · 30/08/2021 11:31

All the men identifying as lesbians?

BilindaB · 30/08/2021 11:31

[quote RoseisMadder]@BilindaB really?

I said 'most' I know there are small minority of trans women who say stuff like this and I disagree with them totally, as do most other trans women. Twitters a big place, you can find that small minority there. Got any evidence that it's more than a handful?

BilindaB · 30/08/2021 11:33

@Deliriumoftheendless

All the men identifying as lesbians?
Dunno how they'll stop it.
MistandMud · 30/08/2021 11:35

Right, Bilinda agrees that exclusively same-sex attraction exists. Good stuff. So does Stonewall believe that too, and are it’s leaders too chicken to say so?

MistandMud · 30/08/2021 11:35

Its. Bloody ungrammatical phone.

HeddaAga · 30/08/2021 11:38

Oh there are plenty of high profile trans activists who say this BilindaB. Take a trip down Riley J Dennis's YouTube posts:

It is quite easy to see when opinions come from someone who has no need to fear the effect of the amount of pressure on lesbians to accept penises. As a parent of a teen, I can confirm the pressure is huge! It is coming from many directions, including other teens who have decided they are on the right side of history and that lesbians are anyone who declares they are a lesbian.

The chilling effect is amplified by young lesbians posting conciliatory and apologetic content after they have been ‘re-educated’.

It is NOT just trans people pushing this agenda. However, it IS people believing in gender ideology and how queer theory should be upheld. This includes trans people from all groups under the umbrella, and allies.

The attempts to discredit it as not really happening or of importance is simply ignoring the reality of what is happening and the harm that is being allowed to happen to our children and all young people.
