Joan of Arc was trans????

It's Schools Diversity Week this week. There has been no mention of any kind of diversity other than LGBTQIA+. Heavy on the T. We've been reminded every day for weeks about this.

Today's update says Joan of Arc was trans because she didn't dress like a woman. There's even a discussion on the pronouns she (sorry, he/they) would have used. Silly me, I though Joan was just a woman who was fed up with the limitations her sex imposed on her. Clearly short hair + trousers = man.

I'm all for showing young people a diverse range of role models, but transing people who lived several hundred years ago is not all that helpful.

So does this mean Mulan is trans now too?

Joan of Arc trans 🤣she was made a saint, they will have to take the church on. Good luck with that 🤣 I'd have burst out laughing of I was there.

World's gone mad, I need to get off it.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 23/06/2021 17:50

But in those days, it was the only way she could do what she needed to do. Saying that any woman who didn’t meekly conform to the stereotypes of the time was actually a man is ridiculous.

pickingdaisies · 23/06/2021 17:50

So in fact, rather than being trans, she was gender nonconforming, or, indeed (dare I say it) GC! Gasp.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/06/2021 17:51

Don't forget the Bronte Brothers, or would that be the Bell Brothers?

Where would that leave Branwell?

Ekofisk · 23/06/2021 17:53

I remember Catherine Bohart joking about Joan being lesbian on the You’re Dead to Me episode. Fortunately Helen Castor confirmed that there’s no evidence of that.

Worth a listen.

I thought her nick name was “the maid”? Due to the fact that she was a virgin and that’s why god used her as his instrument. She was the mascot of the army so and so was dressed in armour on the battle field so she would be safer and a more visible rallying point.

crosstalk · 23/06/2021 17:58

OP can you link to the material?

CiaoForNiao · 23/06/2021 18:09

So does this mean Mulan is trans now too?

I asked DS2 this the other day (it's his favourite Disney film.) He laughed. Luckily, unlike so many of his age group he hasn't fallen for the TWAW/TMAM. He said Mulan is a badass girl who's better than boys. Grin

1starwars2 · 23/06/2021 18:11

How dare they try to revise history like that? And "steal" a strong female role model.
That is truly awful.

GoingGently · 23/06/2021 18:12

@MrsBunHat

I haven't checked these quotations back to source but:

"I was admonished to adopt feminine clothes; I refused, and still refuse. As for other avocations of women, there are plenty of other women to perform them."

She often called herself the maid/maiden.
"The Maid and her soldiers will have the victory."

So who should we listen to - Joan herself or someone else? Not only did she say she was a woman; she was also clear that what she wore didn't change that and she wouldn't be limited to supposed womanly pursuits but was happy to leave them to "other women".

Bravo Joan of arc 👏👏👏 Perhaps she should have a resurgence as feminist icon and we should reclaim her for our own (preemptively....)
MarshmallowSwede · 23/06/2021 18:14

I thought diversity was about different ethnicities, different nationalities etc. why is it now only about trans?

And that’s nor diverse. I assume most trans are white so how is this still not centering white people? And I thought we were trying to not center white people all the time.. hence the whole diversity thing in the 1st place?!

I keep telling my husband that the sooner we are back in Stockholm the better. I just don’t understand what is going on here.

GoingGently · 23/06/2021 18:15

@PicsInRed

Oh I get it.

So Queen Elizabeth didn't just have the heart and stomach of a King, she was a King?

And Marie and Pierre Curie were actually a same sex relationship?

And Jane Austin now goes by "John"?

And basically any and all women who were ever interesting and impressive in any way other than being pretty ... were actually men? Thereby women have never actually achieved anything?

Wow, that's much easier than having to go to the trouble of actually stealing a woman's writing, art, scientific discovery etc and put a man's name on it and give him all the prizes and adulation, now we simply later re-write her as a man!

Alchemy! Marvellous.

She refused to marry (and therefore forfeit her power to a man)... huzzah, in that case she must be a man!! 😃
MarshmallowSwede · 23/06/2021 18:15

So we are transing dead women now? Great!

So now there are no women in history. What century are we living in?!

YouJustDoYou · 23/06/2021 18:17

Well, OBVIOUSLY short hair equals trans. I mean, the middle aged transwomen all think wearing mini skirts and low cut tops = women, so...obviously cliched clothes = sex designated to aforementioned cliche clothes.

GoingGently · 23/06/2021 18:17

@MiladyBerserko

This shit is demoting women and girls, once again, to being second class human beings.

If we have short hair and if we are brave, clever or original, we must be boys / trans. These are simply not attributes that women or girls can possibly have.

Women and girls' permitted attributes are decorative, submissive, "kind" and compliant.

We are back 100 years.

Ah but if we are really lucky and achieve things, we get promoted to being men Wink
Viviennemary · 23/06/2021 18:18

I've heard this before. It's nothing new.

Oblomov21 · 23/06/2021 18:20

What a load of shit! Angry

GoingGently · 23/06/2021 18:22

@Imasoulman

She did dress and present as a man though, one of the reasons the poor woman was executed I believe
She was murdered because she dared to step outside the 'acceptable behaviours' that had been designated to her as a woman.

Her behaviours are a matter of choice but her sex is not... and she didn't pretend to be anything other than a woman. She wasn't 'presenting' or 'identifying' as anything.

Scrambledcustard · 23/06/2021 18:23

Have you contacted the school? You should post it on twitter

Percyprod · 23/06/2021 18:23

I am so sick if this whole "trans" thing! You cannot change sex. It is a biological impossibility. How on earth the world has been convinced you can astounds me. You can pretend to be the opposite sex, that's fine, but don't try to tell me I have to go along with this trans fiasco. There are 2 sexes / genders, referred to as "he" and " she" etc. The world has gone MAD.

GoingGently · 23/06/2021 18:23

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Don't forget the Bronte Brothers, or would that be the Bell Brothers?

Drunk, as usual! 😂

Elizabeth 1 also dressed in armour when required...

Also... is Princess Ann trans? She is a military leader in uniform too...! The queen??!!

Imasoulman · 23/06/2021 18:26

Yes I accept that, I didn't make my point very well.

Unfortunately we will never know one way or the other.
I'm sure there have been Trans people present throughout history.

This is ridiculous though, pointless and unnecessary.
Just leave her be

Regularsizedrudy · 23/06/2021 18:27

Pics or it didn’t happen.

AssassinatedBeauty · 23/06/2021 18:30

@Imasoulman I think it's pretty darn clear from her own words that she didn't in any way claim to be man and in fact specifically referenced her womanhood.

Never mind that it is absurd to try to apply modern ideas onto historical figures - it is a different culture, different society, different norms, different level of understanding of the world and science....
