Joan of Arc was trans????

It's Schools Diversity Week this week. There has been no mention of any kind of diversity other than LGBTQIA+. Heavy on the T. We've been reminded every day for weeks about this.

Today's update says Joan of Arc was trans because she didn't dress like a woman. There's even a discussion on the pronouns she (sorry, he/they) would have used. Silly me, I though Joan was just a woman who was fed up with the limitations her sex imposed on her. Clearly short hair + trousers = man.

I'm all for showing young people a diverse range of role models, but transing people who lived several hundred years ago is not all that helpful.
@ekofisk - if it had been in the resource pack, OP would have had no problem showing it to us. Asking wot see what the actual fuss is about entirely reasonable. A screenshot would be fine. But, she said she couldn't provide information because it was specific to her school. It is not up to me to provide evidence for someone else's post. I've searched pretty hard. If it says "Joan of Arc was a trans man" as the OP suggests, then it would be problematic.

@GoingGently living women can speak for themselves about their gender identity.
@DadJoke

Can you point to any of OP’s posts where they said it’s specific to their school?

Do you not think its possible that the voice of God could have been her way or trying to rationalise or process relentless dysphoria?

I think as she had some powerful motives - to fight and to avoid being raped - occam's razor suggests they are the best explanation, rather than that she just had some urge to wear "men's" clothes, or suffered from dysphoria. Honestly she comes across to me as someone who had more pressing things to concern her than mulling over her "identity". Even if she wanted to be a boy, she knew she couldn't change sex and knew she was female, so she got on with it. Much like me in 1978. And was I trans? No.

People thinking they can just identify into the opposite sex and that what they feel like matters more than reality is a pretty modern phenomenon.

DadJoke · 25/06/2021 16:45

@MrsBunHat she said at her trial that she dressed as a man because God had commanded her to do that. She was not in any kind of disguise. It's not possible to tell what was going on in her head.

DadJoke · 25/06/2021 16:46

@ekofish she said that she couldn't post any specifics because she'd get into trouble as it would identify her. That would not be the case if it was a resource. Read her contributions. I am sure she can clarify if she wants to.

Surely the point of the Joan of Arc story was how remarkable it was that God used a woman to lead an army - thus within a patriarchal culture - the point being God does not limit women the way society does. Society is wrong in limiting women.

....limit women the way the society does.....hmmmm....

Ekofisk · 25/06/2021 16:52

@DadJoke

I have read OP’s contributions. Yes, OP stated that the resources were on their work email. That doesn’t make it specific to their school though.

DadJoke · 25/06/2021 17:20

@ekofish either it's specific, in which case she can't say anything, or it's generic, in which case there is no problem with posting a screenshot of the offending page.

I pass this statue most days, Aethelflaed, our lady of the Mercians. She was quite the badass so probably only a matter of time until the lady title gets dropped from history. As the statue finishes at the waist perhaps they’ll be known as Aethelflaed, our non binary person of the Mercians?

Joan of Arc was trans????

"God does not limit women the way society does" says a church that has spent its history doing its utmost to limit women.

Yes, but she also called herself a woman. I didn't say it was a disguise, more what she needed to do to achieve her aims.

(Although many men and women in history have disguised themselves ad the opposite sex and that didn't make them trans either...)

I know it's a lot to ask, but it would be nice if mumsnet could explain specifically why a post has been deleted, as I know I didn't write anything hateful and there was no-one to misgender.
