This was a bad idea

Splitting the forums that is. Sex and gender underlies all feminist issues and you’re now ensuring that a lot of important topics don’t get as much traffic. I won’t be hanging around here but just wanted to make my views clear.

@MotherOffCod

I’m sure if you’re GC it’s a terrifically awful cramping of your world for mnhq to add a separate board that isn’t your own special place.

But for the rest of us it’s freaking lovely!

Shut the door on your way out, by all means.

And if the rest of the GC crowd could resist trying to shoehorn the gender critical angle into every thread and spam them into submission, that would be good too. And respectful of the boundaries of the women who actually prefer a non GC feminism space.

For fuck's sake 🙄
thinkingaboutLangCleg · 22/06/2021 16:45

Lisz, you link to a letter that claims to be signed by “more than 465 feminist leaders”. I can see that it is signed by numerous models, fashion writers, entertainers, and others, including of course transpeople. These aren’t feminist leaders, and I’ve no idea how many are feminists. Why should their opinion convince anyone?

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 22/06/2021 16:49

Yeah I read that, the thought of Paris Hilton as a feminist leader gave me a chuckle anyway.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 22/06/2021 16:55

@adviceseekingnamechanger

And yet all the gloating, annoying posters are all still here. So much for our own board, we're still being told to be kind etc.

For what it's worth, if you're not critical of gender you have fundamentally misunderstood the political project of feminism. So yeah, get used to being told your feminism is wrong, or go start all the nonsense fake feminist threads you want on the other board.

To be fair, this was originally posted in AIBU

I am actually really looking forward to hearing your feminist thoughts on the non-GC board you're so excited about. Because I don't think I've ever seen you post on the feminist boards other than to have a dig at the posters on here. Don't let our special meanies board distract you from the new opportunity you have.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 22/06/2021 17:02

It was originally posted in the new board, which has the name of the old board.
It then got moved to the other new board, which has many of the threads from the old board.
Posters who started posting on a thread in one board will then find themselves in another. So the "get out of my board and don't let the door hit you on the way out" posts look even sillier than they did to start with.
No wonder everyone's confused.

Sorry, that was to Quaggars

I've already said I HAVE been posting on the new board and other topics.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 22/06/2021 17:06

But it does mean that "non-GC" posters could accidentally end up somewhere they don't want to be, if threads they are on in the other board end up here.

Did anyone say "unwieldy and unworkable" last week?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 22/06/2021 17:07

To be fair to Quaggars, she wasn't on a thread in this board when it started, for example. She was on a thread in the other one.

Quaggars · 22/06/2021 17:08

Thanks, exactly Endoplasmic

It's not terribly consistent so far. Maybe the threads are thrown into a sorting hat.

Ok well I know it wasn't started here originally.
AssassinatedBeauty · 22/06/2021 17:11

Maybe threads in these two sections need a header with a history of their location, where they started and when they've been moved back and forth.

OvaHere · 22/06/2021 17:11

@KeepingTrack

I don’t know *@OvaHere*. I don’t usually seek the feminist threads as such but will read them if they appear in my timeline. What I see is GC stuff. All the time.

Very very little about all the other parts of feminism. And I know I’m not the only one to have noticed that.
Maybe if I was hanging out on those threads regularly, it wouldn’t feel as bad. I don’t know.

Isn't that like me complaining about Style and Beauty, a board I very rarely go to, and complaining I don't like most of the threads they post there because they show up in active?

There is a lot of GC stuff because it's become more and more prominent everywhere, it's inspired a large and growing grassroots movement. There's been a lot of court cases recently and those are continuing into next year at the very least.

Perhaps having separate boards will work out in the longer term, we'll have to see. The way it's been handled is really shabby though.

Personally I find it a pain having to flit between two boards rather than having everything in the one place and I'm more likely to miss stuff I find interesting.

No, not really, as Style and Beauty is what it is.
About style and beauty.
It is perfectly possible to be a feminist and/or interested in feminism topics without holding a GC viewpoint, despite what some might believe.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 22/06/2021 17:17

Well, in your opinion, which you are of course entitled to.

I don't think there's scope for that in the app version (it doesn't have a link to guidelines either). But in general it might be sensible if thread are moved between boards for ' : moved from xxx' to be appended. Not just these boards, also eg those consigned to Petitions.
PotholeParadies · 22/06/2021 17:22

I've just realised my list of charities working towards feminist goals, like eliminating FGM, forced marriage and lifelong childbirth injuries, is in Sex and Gender Debate. Confused

What debate is there supposed to be? This isn't appropriate.

Don't be disingenuous. Like a moth to a flame, the overwhelming focus of your posting, even now the new board is up and running, is on this board, digging at gender critical posters.

Report your thread and ask MNHQ to move it back. I've done that for a few I started, but then rather lost the will to live when I realised most old feminism chat threads had been dumped in S&G wholesale.
Quaggars · 22/06/2021 17:29

Is there some sock puppeting going on here?

How do you mean?

even now the new board is up and running, is on this board, digging at gender critical posters.

I have been posting on the other board, and reading.
I've barely been on this board since the other one started yesterday I think it was?
Because yet again it seems I have to say it This. Thread. Was. On. The. Other. Board.

ClosdesMouches · 22/06/2021 17:43

Pothole, same as ErrolI I reported a couple that were not GC related and they were moved back across.
