Starmer and the Labour Party Really Cannot Read the Room

Labour and Self-id

twitter.com/PinkNews/status/1402586773499244549

Rosie Duffield gets the predictable kicking in the comments. Still no public support for her. That's what the Labour leadership think about women's rights and women who have an opinion.

Why any women would vote Labour I really do not know.

Considering how crap the current government is, the fact that they made gains in the recent elections shows just how extremely and ridiculously crap Labour are; quite an achievement actually.

Keir says we cannot stay silent then says as little as possible

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 09/06/2021 17:27

Starmer is going to have to pick a side on this soon, he can't keep fence sitting because he will end up losing support from everyone.

ChristinaXYZ · 09/06/2021 17:29

Great point by another tweeter:

“Silence is not an option, unless one of my female MPs is being relentlessly bullied and intimidated by misogynists because she knows females have a cervix, in which case silence is all I’ve got.”

If Starmer spoke up for the rights of women, he could win.

FOJN · 09/06/2021 17:37

Well that was cringe inducing, there was so little conviction in his words.

Who is advising KS? I didn't watch but I hear people thought he came across well in the Piers Morgan interview and then he wastes all that capital doing this in a week where Stonewall are under scrutiny for giving inaccurate advice to companies in it DCS. It comes across as self sabotaging.

Only someone who doesn't understand the issues with same sex attracted people transitioning or Stonewall redefining same sex as same gender attraction would mention conversion therapy.

Looks like Labour don't think they need the women's vote to win which wouldn't bother me so much if they were actually a credible opposition but they're not.

Starmer is going to have to pick a side on this soon,

I think he's just told us where he stands on the issue.

AnyFucker · 09/06/2021 17:40

That man has turned out to be such a disappointment

It looks like he has. 😕
Orf1abc · 09/06/2021 17:43

In this respect (though not in many others) he is reading the room.

That room is far bigger than your echo chamber.

highame · 09/06/2021 17:49

Don't forget he has real issues with the corbynites and without a backbone, even though he knows what must be done, he wont be able to act. I am not sure he was ever, even slightly in the GC camp. He will never be able to understand the plight of an under privileged woman.

RoyalCorgi · 09/06/2021 17:50

Orf1abc - yup. I'm absolutely certain that in the Red Wall constituencies, this is the defining issue that will make them start voting Labour again. "Thank god that Starmer is finally making it possible for men to legally identify as women," they're all saying. "It's what we've all been waiting for."

FOJN · 09/06/2021 17:52

That room is far bigger than your echo chamber.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Many posters on AIBU don't visit the feminist board but every time an issue like this comes up (see link below) posters overwhelmingly reject anything which erases women as a sex class or imposes some new restriction on them about the way they are "permitted" to talk about their experiences as women.

giletrouge · 09/06/2021 17:52

Starmer is such a massive disappointment. I actually said OUT LOUD yesterday that I could imagine voting Tory just because no other party gets this right I NEVER EVER EVER THOUGHT I would have to think it, let alone say it. My partner nearly dropped dead with surprise.

DaisiesandButtercups · 09/06/2021 17:53

How can he be so oblivious?!

He clearly has no clue about the issues.

Really disappointing, I held out hope for so long. I think it is finally time to cancel my direct debit. Evidently Labour hates women and girls or thinks we don’t count as human beings at all.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 09/06/2021 17:53

It looks like he has.

But unfortunately for him, anything other than complete capitulation (which would include a public sacrifice of Rosie Duffield and ensuring that any woman who dares to state that women have a cervix or similar is immediately sent to the gulag) is not enough for the people he is trying to appeal to, hence all the 'ROSIE DUFFIELD STILL HAS THE WHIP' stuff that comes after any post of this nature.

And I and many others won't vote for Labour while their stance is that male rapists can go to a female prisons if they feel like it.

So he is going to have to choose....

Yep. With this position he loses left wing feminists (and all their unpaid campaigning labour, leafletting etc) AND socially consertive people who may be on left or right.

Loser

BaronessWrongCrowd · 09/06/2021 18:02

Former Labour Party member. I spoilt my ballot paper rather than vote last general election. Labour can foxtrot oscar if they think they will ever get my vote again.

rogdmum · 09/06/2021 18:05

I remember when he picked my question for his online session here when running for Leader of the Labour Party and gave a complete non answer. (which was then picked up by pr*ck news). He then ignored my two follow up emails to him.

Disappointment then, disappointment now. There’s no way I’d vote Labour now.

It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Labour is dead to me.

Over 4 generations - my Great Grandparents were of those who built it.

justsaymaybe · 09/06/2021 18:16

With the way the Labour party is right now, I'm starting to believe that they don't want to be in power and just prefer jeering from the sidelines.

Helleofabore · 09/06/2021 18:18

It looks like he has.

Does that mean he will continue to try to ignore what women are telling him? Ok then. I guess then if Labour continues to ignore this issue, and continues to ignore Baroness Falkner's advice that women should indeed have a voice in conflicts about their rights, continues to ignore the court cases, Labour will continue to ask questions about their lack of election wins.

bellinisurge · 09/06/2021 18:19

That's my vote lost.

IvyTwines2 · 09/06/2021 18:20

To do this, and to do it through Pink News, fucking hell...

Yup, it's a clear fuck off to women, I'm happy to oblige.
