because all females need to be aware of this

And there's no need to have an attack of the vapours because it's a Daily Mail link. For all their multitude of shortcomings, the Mail at least have the guts to publish articles that stand up for women and girls.

I’m hiding this thread now.

Wonderful. After all that effort LangClegsInSpace went to.

Thank you, Lang. Someone will read through all of that and will find it extremely informative.

I'm sorry to hear about your mother. Flowers

Helleofabore · 08/06/2021 06:01

So the term breast feeding can be appropriated as a way the baby is held close to the heart even when being fed with a bottle that is appropriately called breast milk because the heart is behind the breast part of the chest. You know, making it inclusive in a sweet and wholesome way.

Breastfeeding has a particular meaning and refers to a woman feeding an infant with milk from her breasts. The point is to maintain the distinction so as to have a term that is clear, concise and able to be to trusted by as many people as possible when communicating about this topic. This is important health information and does not need to be inclusive of those it has no relevance to.

Any obfuscation of the term breastfeeding is harmful.

By all means, if your family want to reappropriate the term to make it work for you, go for it. For communication purposes, introducing any other meaning is confusing and will ultimately detract from the vital health messages needed to be understood.

They won't be hiding the thread, they're too invested in it.

And yes, thank you Lang - it's invaluable to me and others who are quite new to this crap. I salute you.

Lang so sorry to read you are going through a hard time and I hope you can find a resolution to the difficulties you are facing soon x

Dione2594 · 08/06/2021 07:32

In America you're lucky if the only thing dehumanizing you in politics are words. The issue in that article is that there is a lack of access and lack of access to affordable health services as well as a lack of education regarding childbirth. It's also baffling that its allowed for women person to give birth at home without any medical professional on standby.
I don't think 'dehumanizing' is the correct word, but it certainly feels dehumanizing.

Erikrie · 08/06/2021 07:33

Your demands are not reasonable. Nobody sane or healthy would pander to them as I have done. You have no right to expect this of any woman here. Who do you think you are?

TRA. A deliberate attempt to derail the thread. Still you put loads of information out there for the lurkers, and the behaviour of that person is clearly unreasonable and deliberate. It's all sunshine. So don't feel disheartened.

Sorry about your mum Flowers

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 08/06/2021 08:02

Just to point out though, you’re the only person who has done this - absolutely nobody else has ‘run all over the internet to provide evidence’, except me.
Sweetie - if you are still reading, and didn't run off once someone took the trouble to provide you with an imperial shit-ton of evidence - I don't need to run about all over the internet to find evidence that language is being changed. I've had that experience in my daily life, the insidious twisting of the word 'woman' to include people with functioning cocks and balls. That fact I don't feel comfortable using the normal three-letter word for them in case I get another deletion is surely proof that things are getting very fucked up.

But no, not until the word 'woman' in it's meaning of 'adult human female' is entirely erased from all governmental and charitable documentation will you believe that there is an issue.

@LangClegsInSpace, really sorry about your mum and the other problems. Subsidence is a bloody nightmare. Flowers

Well done for that post lang. Sorry for your loss Flowers

Thisisworsethananticpated · 08/06/2021 08:22

I’m still reading

I’m still baffled and astounded that such a small minority have managed to bring this about

I’m also baffled as to WHY

Surely the number of FTM that have babies is very very small ?

Who is pushing to change this language ? Is it mainly the MTF trans people ?

I can see why it angers people

That medicine net definition

Thisisworsethananticpated · 08/06/2021 08:22

And I’m also very sorry for your loss Lang
It always gets nuclear in families after a death
Still painful though Flowers

Judging by online fora, a lot of planned homebirths in the US seem to be, at root, initially instigated by desire to avoid medical bills.

When medical care in the US is so expensive, how can you make it compulsory on anyone to seek it?

ArabellaScott · 08/06/2021 08:40

LangClegs Flowers I'm so sorry about your mum.

Structural engineer may be able to help, don't despair. There's a lot that can be done for subsidence - pinning, propping, ties, etc.

ArabellaScott · 08/06/2021 08:41

[quote Datun]Just in case, and in the unlikely event, the people are still unaware that this is an attack on women, not men, I have copied a post from another current thread.

You don't have to read the links particularly far, just the first sentence in each will suffice.

And to all those who think this attack on language is nothing against women, and it goes both ways...

This just came up in my facebook feed and I thought of this thread. It's everywhere.

"If You're A Millennial With A Vagina Who Wants Kids In The Future, Here's Why You May Want To Immediately Freeze Your Eggs

Men over age 40 have a higher chance of having a child with autism."

Compare and contrast!

Erikrie · 08/06/2021 09:02

Compare and contrast!

Jeez. Just the actual women who have had the words to describe themselves removed. Those who 'benefit' being those who rejected womanhood, and those who aren't women. Ffs.

Helleofabore · 08/06/2021 09:13

That headline is very eye opening potholes

Who ever thought that was appropriate??

So…. A female goat should get in quite quickly then and freeze their eggs I guess!!

And people question that this language is dehumanising.

QuentinBunbury · 08/06/2021 10:31

I am on a thread about the "all men use porn" mentality
And it made me wonder what kind of uproar there would be from the TRAs if we started changing men/boys to "people with penises". Then we could say "not all people with penises rape, but all rapes are committed by people with penises"

Maybe we should call the patriarchy the phallocracy instead Grin

Quite. Somehow I don't think they'd like it! Even though it is extremely inclusive.

What arses!

Men v defined by genitalia

Too right we’re not taking it quietly as some on here want.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 08/06/2021 11:25

I've saved the links and Lang's wonderful post.

No way will I stand by and accept being called a 'menstruator', a 'birthing person', a 'cervix haver' or a 'ciswoman'.

I will not be referred to by my body parts, or as a subset of my biological sex. I'm a woman ffs and anyone who is offended by this can grow up- I imagine they really don't have any worries in life if they're troubled by women wanting to be referred to as such.

My view as well.

I will not be dehumanised and dismissed. I refuse to bow down or pander to those who find it triggering or upsetting that a woman is an adult human female, to use words that have been directed at us by them - get over it.

Dione2594 · 08/06/2021 22:51

I don't want to sound like a bigot, I try to be 'progressive' and such, I still consider myself a feminist...in the CORRECT sense of the term, defending women's rights. Whoever thought it was a great idea to invite everyone else and turn it into an umbrella term is clearly missing the point. Its a middle-finger to all the women who have worked hard for women to be recognized, to get the same basic freedoms and rights as men. Somewhere in the 90's someone decided that if feminism is the philosophy of standing up for 'the little guys' that means they need to include women of color, then women with different sexuality etc. because you can't be seen as racists. But caring about women's rights and only women is sexist, and should include the entirety of Noah's Ark.
I think, I even hope, that this is going to cycle back where there is a movement that is about women and specific to women's rights. MTF can join, why not, they consider themselves women so it shouldn't be a problem to be chucked in with all the natural women. Otherwise what are they transitioning to? FTM have left the club, why do they need women's rights?
The same will go for democracy, where there will be a movement to say "hey guys fellow Earth-dwellers, democracy is rule by majority, also utilitarianism is a good concept"

In short, if people want to be inclusive and included, then include yourself instead of being special.

This emotional guilt trip of a poster who asked questions or for links though - why the emotional blackmail?
People on both sides of the "debate" ask for "receipts" or question things.
It shouldn't be a case of "you can't demand I answer!" if it's coming from the GC side but relentless asking the same question over and over and over if it's not.
Not aimed at you specifically but in general

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/06/2021 02:17

That clearly is aimed at LangClegsInSpace specifically, don't be disingenuous Confused

Quaggars · 09/06/2021 02:25

I meant the in general bit aimed at asking for 'receipts' or questioning things.
