JK Rowling has donated £1 million of royalties from one of her children’s books to help fight the Covid-19 crisis in India.

The Harry Potter author is understood to have split the sum between two UK-based charities involved in relief work, including the provision of emergency oxygen supplies.

@youvegottenminuteslynn and @Tibtom

Thank you. I get it now. Missed the irony in op’s post.

ladymalfoy45 · 17/05/2021 18:03

The irony is Hermione would totally agree with her position.

ImprobablePuffin · 17/05/2021 18:05

I haven't finished reading the thread but I'm just loving how with one breath JKR is compared to Hitler and then in the next breath saying she should give her wealth to trans charities 😂
I mean, would YOU want to help out a group of people who compare you to Hitler and actively hate you? No thought not.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/05/2021 18:07

Mutter mutter... don't give some people the oxygen of attention... mutter mutter mutter

babbaloushka · 17/05/2021 18:08
@babbaloushka - the tweets above are horrible but the people writing them just sound incoherent and ill-educated to me. or alternatively as if they just looked up phrases from a list of "what to say to people you disagree with". Bit pathetic really.
Absolutely, but what shocking behaviour from those claiming to advocate for the rights and safety of others. No coherent discourse, just vile, senseless insults.

Ironically, these are likely the same people rabbiting on about suicide rates in transgender teenagers, then logging on to tell someone they disagree with to "die in a hole" and making absolutely grim comments about her body.

Joanne is commendably stoic in the face of such despicable behaviour, I certainly wouldn't be here if I had to read such vitriol about myself online.

Yeah they're not that good at influencing women to come round to their way of thinking are they...

Or in this case "don't give some people oxygen...."
toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/05/2021 18:11

I was going to say something along those lines.... but thought i might get put on the naughty step.

My grandma used to say 'some people are a bloody waste of oxygen'.

@BlueLobelia Quite, should I be embarrassed to admit, as an adult and mother, that the last few books are my go to comfort reads? There's just nothing quite like them for immersibility!

Theluggage15 · 17/05/2021 18:14

I so admire JK. She really is one of the good people. I bought Troubled Blood when there was all that hoohah and nonsense last year about how the book was transphobic. I wasn’t particularly keen to read it but bought it to help shove it up the bestseller list. However, I really enjoyed it and have now read two more books in the series. Very glad my money is going to her.

Fernlake · 17/05/2021 18:21

It's certainly bizarre. A woman who writes children's books, actively involving them in illustrating it, engaging with them on a regular basis, has set up her own children's charity, donates millions to other charities, and has just given a million pounds to help those affected by Covid, is likened to a fascist dictator who is responsible for genocide.

And a serial paedophile.

Obviously, it's risible. But it's so extreme, I wonder what prompts it. It certainly feels like unadulterated rage.

One gets the feeling that there simply aren't enough extreme and awful comparisons to make, that could ever take the place of a slap.

Also, funny someone would want money towards their chosen charity from someone they compare to Hitler.

Yes Fern

Thanks to those on this thread who have given me a good laugh at the end of a tiring day. I mean, the juxtaposition of JKR with Hitler AND Saville is hilarious.

JKR - I hope you are here and feel the FWR love.

dworky · 17/05/2021 19:32

There is simply no hope for her!!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/05/2021 19:42

Or Dick Dastardly? The Sheriff of Nottingham?

Ho Chi Minh was also a prolific writer, but obviously JKR hasn't overseen the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people... yet.
