JK Rowling has donated £1 million of royalties from one of her children’s books to help fight the Covid-19 crisis in India.

The Harry Potter author is understood to have split the sum between two UK-based charities involved in relief work, including the provision of emergency oxygen supplies.

Tell you what cripez. You write to her and ask her to donate to your chosen charity and make sure that you explain why those charities are far more deserving than the one she chooses. (You know, like trying to provide medicine and equipment to India at a time when covid is causing massive loss of life...)

A hint though, don’t tell her you compared her to Hitler on MN or you might not get the reaction you want. But, from personal experience, her team does respond to emails so you never know.

Comparing anyone you don't like with Hitler is the marker of a poor education, it really is. And it's irrational fear to mark someone as "evil" without any evidence.

JKR is an ordinary woman, as flawed and as complicated as the rest of us. Not a big bad monster, not some all powerful evil god trying to control people's brains. She's not in government, she is not controlling legislation or the public purse. She's not stopping anyone living their life. She is supportive of trans people. She has an extraordinary gift for story telling and a generous heart. There's not anything about JKR anyone needs to be scared of.
