Transman Prinz Chiyo Gomes splits gay community: gay man accused of hate

Prinz Chiyo is a transman who entered (and I'm told won, but can't confirm) the Mr Gay England competition last year:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-53936529

Chiyo has talked publicly about Chiyo's experience of sexual abuse from an early ago. Chiyo is also an icon among young girls who want to escape the burden of femininity and is celebrated on BBC's Newsbeat.

A gay man who tweets as Sheridan Sinclair recently wrote an article about Chiyo and why he objected to a someone who talks openly about their vagina and the fact they menstruate qualifying to compete in Mr Gay England. This has set off a Twitterstorm. Sheridan Sinclair has been forced to close his Twitter account and take down his article.

Before he was shut down, Sheridan Sinclair pointed out that many gay men have spent large parts of their lives being told there's something wrong with them, that they should learn to love 'pussy', and that having Chiyo compete in Mr Gay England is homophobic.

Sheridan Sinclair has been reported to the police for hate crime and is expecting a visit from the rozzers this morning. Fair Cop, I hope he's been in touch with you.

@GeorgiaPass Can I ask, if you know the person, do you know why they entered the competition? Or were they nominated for it, or was it the idea of their PR representation?

DrBlackbird · 11/01/2022 18:30

young women like you have been indoctrinated in this belief system that tells you you’re wrong in so many ways. And then tells you that this is feminism!!!

I came on these threads after getting into an argument with my DC about JKR. DC showed me a YouTube video by, who I now know was, Jamie Raines. He and his fiancé talked a million miles a minute explaining why JKR was a terf and transphobic. But I’ve heard her speak and felt sure that she was being mischaracterised.

So I went and read the original source. Her actual essay. It shocked me about GRC and how in Scotland anyone could say they were a woman. Because they felt like or lived as one.

Then I came here to find out more, which has shocked and depressed me in equal measure.

I can’t discuss anything really with DC as I’m just called ‘a Tory’ and any counter point sends the DC further down the rabbit hole to find more evidence to argue against me. It’s all so wrong. So, I mostly lurk here to store away arguments and evidence in case there’s any future opportunity to use them. It’s not easy.

@LondonWolf

I wish you’d stop the constant apologising and pledging to “do better”. Is this how The Youngsters have to communicate in order to avoid The SM Mob these days?
My sister-in-law is like this, bless her; she's 28 and her conversation is peppered with language like this.

I remind her that I'm over 40, so I don't 'get' all the cool lingo.
So, all she needs to be is honest and herself.

CompleteGinasaur · 11/01/2022 20:51

But is it just the girls, or do the boys have to tug the forelock all the time also...?

Grumpyosaurus · 12/01/2022 07:59

I've been desperately trying to to catch up with this thread before going to work, but I just wanted to say that it's amazing, and @GeorgiaPass, you are too, for sticking around and engaging as you have done.

I have a DD who is pretty much on the GC side, but she has said to me that she has to be careful who of her generation she expresses this to.

So yep, I am one of those furious about the throttling of real debate and at the constraints placed on what young women (in particular) may and may not say.

@picklemewalnuts

This has been a kind of one thread summary of my life on Mumsnet! Arrive a bit green, got shocked by plain speaking unapologetic women, learned a load of stuff, became a plain speaking unapologetic woman some of the time!

I still get taken aback by flat disagreement, and statements that haven't been softened with qualifiers. Grin

Same!! First time I posted on here I did an AIBU Shock I was shook Not sure what I thought would happen.

Anyway, turns out IWBU & I married him and 15yrs later it’s all good.

WorriedMumsDontSleep · 12/01/2022 09:36

Great thread. Welcome Georgia
I would just say op, that whilst fwr corner debate is robust yet civil, posters on other parts of the site, specifically aibu can be rude and sometimes downright bullying, so best avoided if you are in anyway sensitive like I am.

I'd also advise a name change for any subsequent posts if you think you can be easily identified irl. Hats off to the brave women who stick with their familiar usernames, but many prefer to change regularly, as they get targeted to try and ban them. I suspect that those who keep their names are mostly old hat and know how to circumnavigate the ever changing rules.

Yeah, same. Posted on AIBU 14 years ago. Handed arse on plate. Never looked back.

This is absolutely disgusting.

Scraggythang · 12/01/2022 10:37

@WorriedMumsDontSleep yeah, I only go on AIBU for a bit of entertainment, but god, I’m never posting on ever again! Belittling is an Olympic sport over there.

Much prefer it here. I feel inspired to be a little bit more forthright everyday.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 12/01/2022 12:07

@MrGHardy that is going to be interesting.

Sheridan having his own protected characteristic may be no defence against an accusation of hate crime against the Sacred Caste.

A young man with autism and learning disabilities was convicted of a hate crime for asking a trans special constable which sex they were. I absolutely cannot fathom how that is just. www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/teen-prosecuted-after-asking-whether-17651755

Sheridan could be in a lot of trouble for having a sexuality and boundaries. Poor sod, hope he's got support and the LGB Alliance know him.
