Transman Prinz Chiyo Gomes splits gay community: gay man accused of hate

Shedbuilder · 30/03/2021 10:11

Prinz Chiyo is a transman who entered (and I'm told won, but can't confirm) the Mr Gay England competition last year:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-53936529

Chiyo has talked publicly about Chiyo's experience of sexual abuse from an early ago. Chiyo is also an icon among young girls who want to escape the burden of femininity and is celebrated on BBC's Newsbeat.

A gay man who tweets as Sheridan Sinclair recently wrote an article about Chiyo and why he objected to a someone who talks openly about their vagina and the fact they menstruate qualifying to compete in Mr Gay England. This has set off a Twitterstorm. Sheridan Sinclair has been forced to close his Twitter account and take down his article.

twitter.com/mrgayengland/status/1376101627959074821

Before he was shut down, Sheridan Sinclair pointed out that many gay men have spent large parts of their lives being told there's something wrong with them, that they should learn to love 'pussy', and that having Chiyo compete in Mr Gay England is homophobic.

Sheridan Sinclair has been reported to the police for hate crime and is expecting a visit from the rozzers this morning. Fair Cop, I hope he's been in touch with you.

Thing is @GeorgiaPass, this isn't about individuals. It's not about your mate, or someone's cross-dressing uncle, or someone else's dysphoric coworker.

This is about the political erasure of what biological sex means and what the implications are for women.

This will never benefit women. Acknowledging how sex effects women can only work if legally and politically it has a definition.

Its no coincidence that men identifying as women are known in the public eye for powerful things (winning races, being the first 'female' soldier' director of a trilogy, MP, etc) but the other way round, it's very rare. Women
Identifying as men are largely known for giving birth (not always but nearly).

Biological sex is still being dealt with through sexism, only now, you can't articulate it.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 10/01/2022 19:56

Mumsnet is the biggest gathering of women in history. Never before have hundreds of thousands of women gathered in one place, exchanging ideas, sharing experiences. It's immensely powerful

And the reason a certain subset of men hate it so much and are so desperate to shut down these boards.
They can't take over here like on Reddit etc.
They know there are thousands of lurkers who can also see through the nonsense. Many thousands who have 'educated themselves' and are saying no.

Thanks I understand that but the original post was about my friend and that is what I responded to initially

I am thankful for the discussion I have had today and I understand your point about how the different gendered stereotypes will affect people no matter what happens.

But you’re right in that this is an ongoing discussion and there needs to be real change.

GeorgiaPass · 10/01/2022 20:03

@chilling19

Great response to Georgia, vipers. Georgia, hope you stick around.
Thanks! I have already posted on other threads (about puppies mainly) so I think I will - and I have discovered that there are not only vipers here Smile

In MNs history it has always been hated by mens rights activist groups and abusive male partners furious that women here can seek support to stand up against abuse, leave harmful relationships, develop beliefs that help them to escape situations where they are subordinated, humiliated, used, unhappy, meeting others' needs in un reciprocated relationships. There's plenty of MRA forums of seething exes livid that someone taught their victim how to see through their behaviours and lies and to say no. Enough. I won't put up with that. And plenty of threads in MNs history of women who escaped and often had to go into hiding, sometimes after being battered or throttled and being assessed as in danger for their lives.

Women talking to, empowering and informing each other is a powerful, crucial thing. Being treated this way should not be a life sentence for being born with female biology. Identifying out of being female should not be the only way to escape.

But those who identify out of being female aren't actually escaping anything though are they?
The difference is that they are not only still and forever oppressed due to the sex they can never escape from, they are also helping to enable men to oppress all other women further with this sexist ideology, that most are too young and naive to realise they are being used.

Estimate on a guest post thread the other day that around 6,000 women have left abusive relationships after getting support/info from MN. Actually, I meant to make a post about it.

Artichokeleaves · 10/01/2022 20:30

Many, many more have learned that their boundaries were messed up, that the relationships they were in were unhealthy or abusive even if physical battery wasn't involved, and learned to be healthier themselves and to look for better and healthier family and personal relationships. I'm one of them. Forever grateful to the relationships board and the women there.

If MRA’s were cartographers I reckon the area of MN would be labelled “Here be dragons”*

Aka the wild and untamed women of the world, inc those who had to rediscover or fight to gain their freedom again (like me)

*close enough to dinosaurs

CuntAmongstThePigeons · 10/01/2022 20:38

Yeah mumsnet helped me leave an abusive relationship. I am forever grateful to the women on this site who helped, nurtured and educated me.

Wow this has to be one of the finest threads ever. I love the women of MN. Welcome Georgia and thank you Artichoke Datun Arabella and the rest of you for my own education on this board (over many name changes).
I too got myself out of a horrible situation because of the challenge and support I was given years ago to develop my own boundaries. I stay because of the sorority, laughs and education. And because I won't be told what to do by the men who would love to shut us down Grin

RoaringtoLangClegintheDark · 10/01/2022 22:19

Well this turned out rather better than expected! Grin

Brilliant thread. Please could it go into MN classics. So many really thoughtful posters and it shows exactly how important this board and the women here are.

catzwhiskas · 11/01/2022 10:30

Good to see you again Floral at lest you still have your name intact!
