Oh, bugger Sad

PearPickingPorky · 23/03/2021 12:32

Women in Scotland are fucked. We have no rights or protections left, they've removed them all by stealth.

We have the Forensic Medical Services Bill saying we can request (but not have) a female examiner after a rape. But that is it. That's it! And that had to be fought to the death for.

Igmum · 23/03/2021 12:34

Gutted.

AnaofBroceliande · 23/03/2021 12:35

Sick of this country. Nannied to fuck, except when it comes to women's rights.

HermioneWeasley · 23/03/2021 12:37

Fuck.

Sexnotgender · 23/03/2021 12:40

It’s a raging pile of shite. I’m so upset.

theskyispinkiiihaveOVARITcodes · 23/03/2021 12:53

Disgraceful.

I hope there will be grounds for appeal.

AdHominemNonSequitur · 23/03/2021 13:01

I'm so sorry Scottish Women. It sucks. We all knew how far Scotland had gone down this route thanks to Sturgeon and her shallow will to power. I feel sick but I'm not suprised. FWS will keep fighting I'm sure. It's not over.

SweetPetrichor · 23/03/2021 13:17

Good. Reading their manifesto represents this as a disgusting waste of money. Don’t feel sorry for all Scottish women. I’m proud to stand with equality for all, not just for me.

Olderstyle1 · 23/03/2021 13:20

This is unbelievable. The Judge has upheld a definition of 'woman' that includes males, and asserted the right of the Scottish Government to decide that words mean whatever they want them to.

Evidence of ones womanly status in Scotland is as follows:

"This would not require the person to dress, look or behave in any particular way. However, it would be expected that there would be evidence that the person was continuously living as a woman, such as – always using female pronouns; using a female name on official documents such as a driving licence or passport, or on utility bills or bank accounts; using female titles; updating the gender marker to female on official documents such as a driving licence or passport; describing themselves and being described by others in written or other communication as a woman."

This is off the chart madness. You can change your sex by using a girly name on your gas bill.

So sorry For Women Scot. Hope you are able to appeal this appalling and dangerous judgment. I'll dig my way to Oz if that helps.

It's such nonsense because you aren't even allowed to ask for evidence of this.

The Act does not require an appointing person to ask a candidate to prove that they meet the definition of woman in the Act.

🙄🙄🙄

@SweetPetrichor

It's not for all though is it? It's just for people of the male sex.
PandorasMailbox · 23/03/2021 13:36

My Scottish friends are devastated. If this judgement doesn't show how little women matter, then I don't know what will.

How is being complicit in a lie helping anyone @SweetPetrichor? All it does is feed animosity and division. Well fucking done!

The point of the Public Boards Act was specifically to redress the historical imbalance in female representation. Allowing males to take the place of females clearly does the opposite SweetPetrichor.

This is the reverse of equality for all.

PopperUppleton · 23/03/2021 13:42

I'm so very sorry to say it, but I'm glad I no longer live in Scotland and no longer work at one of the world's best universities due to the erasure of women like this Sad

EdgeOfACoin · 23/03/2021 13:50

So if a woman has a unisex name (say, Leslie) and is a doctor, so goes by the title Dr, how does this person live as either a woman or a man?

Is the only thing that makes Dr Leslie a woman the fact that other people refer to her as 'she' and 'her'? Literally nothing else makes Dr Leslie a woman?

And if Dr Leslie is referred to as 'he' or 'him', does that literally make Dr Leslie a man?

Imnobody4 · 23/03/2021 13:52

This is terrible news. I'm so sorry for Scottish women. Really hope they appeal.

SwimmingInToys · 23/03/2021 14:02

Fuuuuck. I'm gutted. Every argument made perfect, logical sense. Thinking about the issue for all of 2 seconds makes it perfectly clear.

I hate living in Scotland at the moment. Can't believe I was once proud of this country, it's just an embarrassment to me now.

hoodathunkit · 23/03/2021 14:04

Outrageous

I hope they can appeal

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 23/03/2021 14:15

What's the point of having reserved places for women on public boards, if any man can 'be' a woman by changing the name on his utility bill?

SwimmingInToys · 23/03/2021 14:19

Precisely the point AlwaysTawnyOwl. It is utterly meaningless.

A part of me is in awe of the sheer audacity of the legislators to introduce self-ID in a piece of legislation purporting to promote women. That takes some shameless brass neck.

WeRoarSometimes · 23/03/2021 14:44

This is terrible.
Even more so when the First Minister of Scotland is a woman.

terryleather · 23/03/2021 14:46

Every time I think this shitemare of a country can't get any worse, I'm proved wrong.

ASmallMovie · 23/03/2021 14:56

Scotland, which deludedly considers itself a progressive country, is now essentially woman-phobic.

Dire and depressing state of affairs.

Lucky if this gets even a paragraph in most newspapers / main news.

PandorasMailbox · 23/03/2021 15:00

I could cry for Scottish women.

I honestly don't believe that FWS will leave it here. I'm more than happy to support any future crowdfunder.
