They currently still need about 49k so please support them if you can.

This is terrible news for women in Scotland.

So ashamed of Scottish politics these days - a depressing state of affairs.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 23/03/2021 15:06

For the love of god, what is going on up there??

OhHolyJesus · 23/03/2021 15:06

Off to donate. Desperately worried for women in Scotland. This is utterly outrageous.

Let's ignore the trolls, take a breath and focus on what we do next. Now where's my bank card...

Waitwhat23 · 23/03/2021 15:07

I'm genuinely embarrassed to be Scottish now. The final straw for me was the rejection of the amendments to the Hate Crime Bill. Living in a country which bills itself as progressive while dismantling sex based rights makes me worried for my daughter's future.

I honestly think we need to have a grassroots approach to the upcoming elections to make women's feelings known - what that should be, I'm not sure yet.

HoldontoOneMoreDay · 23/03/2021 15:07

I fear that was the point @ASmallMovie - after all, who really cares about reforming the boards of quangos? It was a pure and simple trojan horse so they can turn around in a couple of years time and say 'well this has been the law here for ages...'

Iamhangingin · 23/03/2021 15:13

I've donated (cos you know women now have a 2nd tax to pay just to be recognised as women, which I foolishly didn't even realise was something up for debate until the past few years - what a progressive world we now live in). Great that we can self ID by describing ourselves in written communication...... I'm not a legislative expert but that surely seems a bit lax?!

toffeebutterpopcorn · 23/03/2021 15:14

Waitwhat23 - I think the thing is that it’s always been sexist - I remember men apologising if they swore in the street next to you ‘sorry there, hen’, one of my teachers used to say that he didn’t want girls in his class (he wasn’t joking), Getting heckled by ‘gorgeous men’ Confused If you weren’t deemed pretty/happy enough looking, getting catcalled one school uniform...

All this ‘progressive’ nuts is just misogyny in a new hat. ‘Oh aren’t we progressive’ = ‘women shut the fuck up and listen to the men’s’.

TheHamsterCatcher · 23/03/2021 15:20

I don't know how we're going to manage to fight this, and all the other cases that will keep coming at us.
It's all so expensive. £100,000 raised and that's not enough even to cover how far the case has gone so far... Never mind an appeal.
How are we going to keep this up once we start seeing women in court trying to defend themselves against hate crime allegations?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 23/03/2021 15:21

They are still digging for an appeal I think? Well the allotment is still open anyway.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 23/03/2021 15:23

European Court of human rights? But then I know that prisons seem to work against the Geneva convention when it comes to housing inmates, so...

Waitwhat23 · 23/03/2021 15:38

@toffeebutterpopcorn I completely agree with you that Scotland is inherently sexist - I'm sure most women could give everyday examples. It's just galling to have a Government which bills itself progressive which rates the rights of women so low. There was a post on this board recently where someone had done a FOI and in it the Scottish Government stated that their stance is 'transwomen are women' but in the review today, they had to admit that that isn't 'official' policy as it hasn't been assessed or reviewed. They just do whatever they want, with very little oversight. It is, as you say, misogyny with a different name.

@Iamhangingin you're so right about women having a second tax. It's actually quite humbling how much these grassroots appeals have managed to raise - it shows the depth of feeling of women, even if they're unable to be vocal about it.

CatsHairEverywhere · 23/03/2021 15:41

So what’s the next step? We’re both Scottish and women, since when did we sit down and shut up??

toffeebutterpopcorn · 23/03/2021 15:42

Good point. But as we have established, the men just stick their fingers in their ears as ever. Can we blame the church of Scotland for this?

NonnyMouse1337 · 23/03/2021 15:48

That's the spirit. ❤️
JellySlice · 23/03/2021 15:53

Scotland has become a theocracy.

PandorasMailbox · 23/03/2021 15:53

None of my Scottish friends could ever be accused of being shrinking violets Grin

The women of the UK are with you. We absolutely won't let this stand.

Women have to move over for ALL men, even the ones who don’t want to be men anymore.

Just keep moving over (until you fall of that seat)

Sophoclesthefox · 23/03/2021 15:58

You love to see a breeder suddenly realize gender is a spook. Anyways, trans rights gg no re

Er, what? Confused

toffeebutterpopcorn · 23/03/2021 15:58

I think a women’s strike is in order.

I'm sorry...?

malloo · 23/03/2021 16:04

Sigh... Thanks for trying FWS. I feel like things are starting to turn around south of the border but up here things are just getting worse. Anyway, no point in moaning, what can we do next?

UppityPuppity · 23/03/2021 16:06

Gutted for you Scots. How is this possible in a supposed sane society?

JellySlice · 23/03/2021 16:06

I am 'Leslie'.

My name is feminine in my mother-tongue, but masculine in English. I am frequently
'mis-gendered. Until they meet me, people generally assume I am a man unless told otherwise.

Which sex am I? The one evidenced by my biology, or the one presumed by others? Am I a different sex to different people?

Am I proof of non-binaryism? Or that it is possible to be a female man? Or of fluid gender ?

Or am I simply a gender non conforming adult female human - ie a woman?

Gender is garbage, not god.
