*He may say thay but he also voted for the Hate Crime Bill so now they won't even be able to step up.

He also voted against women being allowed to ask for a female examiner after rape.*

Aye, I'm by no means suggesting he's someone to support, just agree with him on the absolute mess of Scottish politics right now!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 23/03/2021 17:16

So, does this mean that TMAM?

They won't need gynaecology services or contraception or maternity services or any of the sex specific health provisions?

I think I have just understood what "I can't even..." means.

Apileofballyhoo · 23/03/2021 17:18

What a pile of shite.

Evidently not if the definition of men hasn’t been changed.

How can anyone - with any intent - think that it’s fine to change the definition of one sex but not the other? In the name of inclusivity - but only to half the population?

Calyx72 · 23/03/2021 17:29

Can't believe the ruling. Gutted Sad

No, because, in the name of inclusivity these services will not be aimed at women any longer, but at havers of certain body-parts.

Funny, isn't it, that as soon as biology is legislated away, it becomes an essential part of the language.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 23/03/2021 17:35

This is off the chart madness. You can change your sex by using a girly name on your gas bill.

I can't add anything to that, except my sympathy and solidarity with women in Scotland. Especially the heroic campaigners of For Women Scotland.

PearPickingPorky · 23/03/2021 17:39

This has clarified things a bit.

Now, we regroup, rethink, and go again to challenge, but better informed.

Toseland · 23/03/2021 17:45

Have they changed the meaning of the word ‘man’ too?

MichelleofzeResistance · 23/03/2021 17:47

@yeahbutnaw

Welp. You guys wasted another 100k.

Imagine how much better the world would be if you put that money into charities instead of these failed legal crowdfunders.

What a kind post.

It was not wasted.

Imagine how much better the world would be if women didn't have to fight through courts out of their own pockets to try and protect women from a male agenda that does not care about them and their sex based needs at all, and just sees them as an annoying obstruction.

In fact imagine how much better the world would be if you could envisage looking for solutions that work for everyone instead of expressing smug victory in the suppression and oppression of women.

My SIL name is actually originally a male name when BIL is from. What would happen in this case? They just haven’t through about this.

Who proposed and advised this travesty?

highame · 23/03/2021 17:52

A few things. Firstly I am really, really, off pissed and then
Primogeniture will have been the reason why male hasn't been changed, so this shows primogeniture and class rule in Scotland (as in all the UK)

Media bias, though some might swing (the Times is your best bet) and the comments are a good place to look for the measure of support.

The Judges in the lower courts can be more 'captured'. When you get to the upper courts, they are fiercely protective of their independence (though is this the case in Scotland) and therefore the case stands a better chance.

I think you also have a problem with the SNP being for the Scots (though clearly not Scottish women) and therefore many who want to keep them in power. Not good for Scots though

Should we witches start getting our spare rooms ready

highame · 23/03/2021 17:53

Sorry should have said class and misogyny

Hibari · 23/03/2021 18:03

Good.

Signalbox · 23/03/2021 18:05

It seems to me that the judge is saying that the Scottish Government have not redefined the word woman but that they have made a law that will benefit both women (by virtue of the PC of sex) and transwomen (by virtue of the PC of gender reassignment).

The judge seemed to think there is some visual and social way to "operate as a woman" or "operate as a man". She seemed to be under the impression that "gender reassignment" is an actual process that leads to a "visual and social" change. She seemed to think that there was a "stringent criteria" for "gender reassignment" to have taken place. She also made a comment about the intersection of GR and ethnicity or disability and that TW often had intersecting PCs.

Judge is clearly captured. I wonder if she has had stonewall training :)

Much was made in argument of the effect of the 2018 Act being to exclude or discriminate against biological women who are changing gender and living as men, who could not benefit from its positive action measures. That ignores the obvious point that such people are visually and socially male and so not operating as women for the purposes of the gender representation objective

NonnyMouse1337 · 23/03/2021 18:07

Of course not.
UppityPuppity · 23/03/2021 18:31

With the huge capture of organisations to prioritise TW at the expense of women, we all know that there is no such thing as operating as a woman, unless you are a woman.

Even babies know the difference.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 23/03/2021 18:37

Even animals can tell the difference.

Yup. My greyhound is very wary around men he doesn’t know.

This. 'Woman' now includes men. But 'men' does not include women.

ArabellaScott · 23/03/2021 18:48

Sorry, I should clarify

'Woman' now includes males if the males want to identify into that class. But 'men' does not include women.

EyesOpening · 23/03/2021 19:00

@EdgeOfACoin

So if a woman has a unisex name (say, Leslie) and is a doctor, so goes by the title Dr, how does this person live as either a woman or a man?

Is the only thing that makes Dr Leslie a woman the fact that other people refer to her as 'she' and 'her'? Literally nothing else makes Dr Leslie a woman?

And if Dr Leslie is referred to as 'he' or 'him', does that literally make Dr Leslie a man?

”and being described by others in written or other communication as a woman.” So if some people refer to them as a man, are they then a man (for that moment in time only?)? Are there any more laws Scotland doesn’t like, which they can’t change the wording of so they’ll decide the words have a different meaning instead so that they end up with a law that now means what they want it to?
JellySlice · 23/03/2021 19:03

@ArabellaScott

Because.... magic.

littlbrowndog · 23/03/2021 19:25
