Reclaim These Streets have been captured.

It was inevitable of course. Whatever the original intentions of the local women who set up the facebook event page, given the huge response they have had, it was just to tempting for those who always want to be in control not to take over.

So now there is a Reclaim These Streets facebook group www.facebook.com/groups/282187170119807/ which of course loads of women have joined. And although it is meant to be about sharing your experiences, your ideas, your whatever, turns out the group admins will not let your voice be heard if you dont express yourself in an approved way.

No need to detail what that is, but once again the vanguard of well schooled stonewall students are definitely in charge.

And of course this also applies to the now in excess of half a million pounds raisde for women's projects. It has been decreed - by knee jerk tweet that only trans inclusive groups will get women.

Tough luck on those providing women only services as legally allowed under the EA. So rape crisis helplines, women refuges, many BME groups will be deemed not worthy of financial support.

How come there are never enough mumsnetters out and about on facebook or wherever to capture groups? Sad

Because people don't know the issues. I'm cynical about fundraisers that don't name the recipients anyway so didn't donate. I can make my own mind up.

They won't be expecting the level of abuse they will get as they will never be able to toe the line enough.

Their Twitter did mention evaw and centre for women's justice though

ShowOfHands · 16/03/2021 18:08

I joined. I tried to ask a question. I was respectful, thoughtful etc.

I was kicked out 5 minutes later and called a transphobe. In those 5 minutes, 4 people demanded I state "twaw".

I am SO done with everything.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/03/2021 18:15

They haven't been captured, they were TWAW from the start. They didn't mention this on the fundraiser, but they did to anyone asking the question specifically.

Skyliner001 · 16/03/2021 18:19

Thanks so much for the heads up, I'll join this group, good to see they are stamping out transphobia 😊

Biscuitsanddoombar · 16/03/2021 18:20

If it helps (which it probably doesn’t) RTS started out captured

Of the founders
Anna birley is a Labour cllr as is Jess Leigh whole Jamie klinger runs this incite.global/

The problem was that people didn’t realise they were full on TWAW when they donated because they didn’t make it clear

Biscuitsanddoombar · 16/03/2021 18:21

Luckily lots of women now know the money they donated might be spent on services that don’t centre women & have asked for it back

This. I thought it was quite openly acknowledged? There was a sign about TERFs somewhere wasn't there? Amongst the tributes.
nitsandwormsdodger · 16/03/2021 18:25

What does captured and TWAW mean ?

They will be centering the penis in all their endeavours

Flowers for you Show. For what it is worth I think that was a brave thing to do and I admire you for it.
ShowOfHands · 16/03/2021 18:39

Thank you.

I feel so dispirited today. I've lost friends since sticking my head over the parapet and they will forever sell the narrative that I'm a bigot. It feels impossible.

yourhairiswinterfire · 16/03/2021 18:50

At the vigil, yes. I hope to God Sarah's family don't look up 'terf' and see the vile abuse men send to women whilst using that slur.

Pretty sick to display it at a vigil for a woman who had just been killed.

ValancyRedfern · 16/03/2021 18:53

Yes they were very upfront from the start about being twaw. I decided not to go to my local vigil as it was for 'all those who identify as women' so I concluded it wasn't for me.

InsideNumberNine · 16/03/2021 19:12

The difficulty is with this group and the fact that so many women felt compelled to join based on recent events, is that there seems to be equal weighting given to the threat faced by and crimes against women and trans women, but that's a statistical impossibility, right? Just by virtue of the number of women compared to trans women? So people are being led to believe the threat is equal, when I don't believe it is?

JosieJarker · 16/03/2021 19:14

I posted about this on another thread.
So disappointing.
Even a recommend for Dr Jess Taylor's work got jumped on with cries of terf.
Some of these people cant bear to share space with anyone who might have a different thought to them.
Its quite disturbing actually.
Daisy if you're on here, you're doing a brilliant job x

Here's a trans person's take on the statistics:

www.queermajority.com/currents/tdor-trans-death-and-trans-life?

Given the name of the website you might be surprised by the analysis.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 16/03/2021 19:23

@showofhands Flowers

Had a look, wish I hadn't. Already someone saying they are neither male or female Confused

Then someone else throwing out the standard trope of "trans people suffer worse than cis". Yes despite the fact that a grand total of fuck all were murdered in the uk last year!

I mean, what's point, what's the bloody point? This could have been something, a real change. But no, it's a group of mantra screaming idiots redirecting the focus away from the women and girls who suffer because it's all about how THEY are the most oppressed, THEY are the most attacked, why aren't we talking about them.

All the women will become good for in that group is validation and cheerleading.

I was aware of the feeling of that group anyway after one of them called women who don't follow the line "literal scum" and apologised when she accidently shared a photo that showed she owned some Harry Potter Books

Mollyollydolly · 16/03/2021 19:28

If anyone donated and wants to get their money back I've seen a few people say they've done so by contacting Just Giving.

MaryHappyWin · 16/03/2021 19:30

Women should feel safe. I am against bullies, wife beaters and rapists.
All women should be safe from violence.

Wow. How refreshing to see a transwoman being honest - not just about the dishonest murder statistics but about the damaging psychological impact they have on trans people.
nauticant · 16/03/2021 19:33

It's definitely one to be bookmarked Clymene.

stumbledin · 16/03/2021 19:44

As mentioned up thread, I am sure the vast majority who joined the events page which gave very few details, comments weren't censored, just not answered ie about the money.

So on one level it was quite good because although the wokerites jumped in, there was quite a lot of sharing experiences, and what women wanted to happen.

And as such was valuable as it allowed women to find they had so much in common with each other.

So whether they were captured or pushed from the start it wasn't overt. The new group makes it clear.

And this is a shame because this could have been such an opportunity to make links.

And of course (which I have posted on another thread) as illustrated by the comments made by representatives from Sistah Space on newsnight last night, what nobody is talking about is just how white this all is.

ie the media response to Sarah going missing, the police response, the raising of money, and in fact the inappropriate wokery.

Remember the two sisters murdered after a birthday party where the police refused to even go an look where they were last seen, and in the end family members had to go to the park where they found their bodies. static.independent.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2020/06/19/11/nicole-bibaa-wembley-2.jpg?width=990&auto=webp&quality=75

There was a suggestion (on facebook) about sharing the links to this and other stories of Black women's deaths being ignored on RTS page but agreed disrespectful to Sarah and her family as the fault lies with the police and the media.

If it wasn't all so serious you would just want to laugh out loud at these spoilt toddlers running round stamping their feet if they dont get their way. And all the grown ups standing back and saying we shouldn't upset them be questioning if they know what they are doing.

It is so horribly disappointing.
