Old thread nearly full!

————————————-

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

Remember there are people out there who would like to silence us by fair means or foul.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3944572-Bunburys-guide-to-community-disruptors-part-5?pg=40

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the ‘Break it Down for me’ and ‘It never happens’ threads but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

I note that cattle farmers always write extraordinarily long posts making it easier to scroll past them onto the vegans discussing things in good faith

So true Grin
notyourhandmaid · 27/02/2021 16:10

The cattle farmers have lots to say about cattle, it's true, but it seems to change on a daily basis. It must be exhausting keeping up with all these new agricultural discoveries.

MichelleofzeResistance · 27/02/2021 16:23

And none of it has anything to do with vegans or cake.

I definitely need more cake. That Dundee cake and the pomegranate molasses are calling my name.

HermitsLife · 27/02/2021 17:41

Is it just my imagination or do we seem to be attracting new cattle farmers?

Good to see discussions moving to AIBU, debate seems to be more ahem robust over there.

Kit19 · 27/02/2021 17:56

Im wondering if the new cattle farmers are old famers with new names? some names often found in this parish seem to have disappeared....

Almost definitely.
ArabellaScott · 27/02/2021 19:01

I had a recipe that called for pomegranite molasses and it always irritated me because why on earth would anyone have that in the cupboard? Now I'm irritated because I can't remember what it was.

I have to say, the wims posting on AIBU are like the most polite and graceful duchesses of the teaparty. And well informed. It's awesome to watch. Smile

You mean they are tidying out their sock draw?
CorvusPurpureus · 27/02/2021 19:54

There's one very obvious one. 'Lol' Wink

littlbrowndog · 27/02/2021 20:38

Rollo on aibu thread was totally awesome

Stayed strong stayed firm

Despite attempts to tell her to get back to FWR

DeaconBoo · 27/02/2021 22:34

'lol' isn't ringing particularly true with me there, language-wise, but I still can't get a handle on what's actually being proposed? The tone is slightly familiar.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/02/2021 10:54

The tone is slightly familiar.

I can imagine it would be.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 28/02/2021 11:55

I know this should be in the Bluestocking Pub rather than here but I can't find it.

I've just sprinkled more blood, fish and bone for FPFW in the light of this news. I'm just wondering how we can persevere through having language modified, dealing with tactics such as this from captured organisations…

More than a little blue and feeling under siege.

And I see that we're not far off 400 comments or futile cycles on a recent thread.

It's so easy to deplore polarisation and click bait in political and social matters yet it's tremendously successful. Although, by and large, a lot of people acknowledge that it's detrimental to the public weal and turns people away from even vaguely attempting an understanding of the issue that is under consideration (or would be were it not for the heat and light).

DaisiesandButtercups · 28/02/2021 14:25

I would rather they start their own threads I think than ruin perfectly good and interesting threads started by good faith OPs.

The one to which you are referring however, well I am surprised to be honest that anyone is still giving it the time of day... mind you if others are keeping the cattle breeders busy and out of our way we can get on with the cake.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 28/02/2021 14:36

Yep I’m out of that too. I see the feministing in the wild thread on AIBU about hormones has been subject ti mass reporting and an influx of Youre all terrible transphobes

Bloody hell!

TartrazineCustard · 01/03/2021 17:24

I've finally got round to reading Galileo's Middle Finger. Bloody hell, it's all there, isn't it? We see it being acted out all over FWR all the bloody time.

Oh.

"The ONS last night insisted it had always planned to do a soft launch on February 22 and rejected claims it was connected to the High Court case."

If so, it should be easy to prove that this was the plan all along.
Otherwise they will end up looking like a bunch of ideologues pulling a childish stunt ... in a project costing the taxpayer £900 million.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 01/03/2021 18:51

Do they still have to provide a printed copy of the census form? If so, crossing out a word and substituting a different one should be possible.

I have no intention of filling the thing in on line; if necessary I will claim that it was not possible with my computer.

ArabellaScott · 01/03/2021 19:16

"The ONS last night insisted it had always planned to do a soft launch on February 22

FOI?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 01/03/2021 20:13

"The ONS last night insisted it had always planned to do a soft launch on February 22"

Which is interesting in itself; hasn't the census always previously been supposed to be a snapshot on one particular day? I remember having to be included in someone else's form because I was spending the night at her house.

RozWatching · 01/03/2021 20:34

According to Twitter, ONS materials suggest that the soft launch was part of the plan, but it is irrelevant because no one is meant to access it yet. It's a poor excuse.

You'd think. And yet:

People. There are more than two sexes. There are more than two genders. This is not a political statement. It's just reality.
