Here’s hoping all the police forces councils banks will have their places lit up to support this ?

🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

endofthelinefinally · 25/11/2020 12:09

I don't think this has been mentioned anywhere in the media has it?

Nomnomarrgh · 25/11/2020 12:13

The Times

We mustn’t surrender the UK’s reputation for fighting violence against women

International day for the elimination of violence against women
TweeBree · 25/11/2020 12:23

So the Bank of England will be lighting up their London HQ for it, right?

Kit19 · 25/11/2020 12:27

Im sure they will Twee I mean thats what you do to highlight these things. Plus all the party leaders will definitely put out a statement about it right?

Of course we can also expect many prominent MPs, charities and such to mark the day. As they care about women so much.

Depressingly, literally none of my friends knew this, and I was asked if I was 'making it up to garner sympathy for women? Men have it way worse and women are just as violent as men but they don't get punished for it' by one dickhead guy wh is now gone from my list as he made me feel ready to punch my laptop tbh Hmm

littlbrowndog · 25/11/2020 12:38

For those we lost to male violence

You strangled her. She had two children who will never see her again

Tears on this day for you my darling

OvaHere · 25/11/2020 12:51

There's a couple of women I have known over the years I always think of on a day like this. One murdered by her partner and left rolled up in carpet and another who died from alcoholism years after awful DV she never recovered from.

For all affected women today Flowers

Sir K. has done a little tweet - no video yet though..... maybe he's still doing his make up and it's going to be a biggie??

Chersfrozenface · 25/11/2020 13:11

At least the Royal College of Midwives uses the word 'women' (though possibly in a limited and specific way). Check out the quote from Gill Walton, the Chief Exec, in this press release

Why is it "elimination of violence against women"? Why the emphasis on the victim (is it their fault?)
It should be "elimination of violence by violent people. Most of whom are XY." Catchy title, eh?Grin

Not sure if photo I saw earlier on Twitter of a large 'blue plaque' outside Leeds Council, saying 'Britain's First Municipal Brothel' was from today. Great protest idea, well done Leeds Resisters and all involved for standing up against this harmful approach. Ending violence against women and girls is bloody difficult when the state condones it.

News link is from October this year

Women are not allowed to have "days" about them any more.

The deafening silence and complete lack of visibility speaks volumes.

INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF WOMEN

We are all so sick of this.

I closed the twitter tab when I saw the very first reply to it. Entirely predictable. I think I'm going to give twitter a wide berth today, just focus on women and girls without being distracted by brats.
fatblackcatspaw · 25/11/2020 13:28

I suggest hopping over the Bank of England twitter and asking what they are doing to mark this day... nothing on on it so far after lighting up Threadneedle st for Trans Awareness

it's probably been mentioned before but Macmillan Cancer charity has no mention of women at all with the entry for Cervical Cancer (apparently 'people' get cervical cancer') yet men get penile and prostate cancer Hmm .

Changing info and websites generally takes meetings and discussion. So in the meeting where they discussed updating the website and someone says,
'right, I think we should change the sex specific references on the website for 'inclusion'.'
'ok, what pages are there then?' 'well, we've got 'women' in cervical cancer' 'ok, let's change that for inclusion - there are countless people with cervices that aren't women and we need to include them - any more?' 'well, we've got 'men' in prostate cancer' 'hmm, that's a tricky one, I can't think of anyone who doesn't identify as a man and also has a prostate gland, let's leave that one in' 'penile cancer?' 'yes leave that too'. ok, thanks everyone, good meeting. bye.

even more bizarrely, if they are thinking 'inclusion' there are far more transwomen with prostates that need to be included than transmen (especially with intact cervices, as a number of them seem to have to have their cervix removed due to atrophy and agonising pain)

Fucks sake, I swear they are just openly trolling now.

Mind, we do know woman is a dirty word these days of course

It should be "elimination of violence by violent people. Most of whom are XY." Catchy title, eh?

Wish I was quicker at thinking, as this would have been an interesting one to try on him.
