refreshingly for the UN they seem to be talking about women and girls....

[quote Doyoumind]So, The Independent has taken the opportunity today to print fake news suggesting it isn't actually females who face the threat of violence and murder. We aren't at as great a risk as TW apparently. Who knew? We must all have misinterpreted the stats.

It is worth scrutinising all of the names on this publicly available list and considering their connections.

moptophairshop · 25/11/2020 19:40

The Independent article was on a thread that has for some reason been deleted Hmm Someone (Chattylion maybe?) had posted a really useful link but I wasn't quick enough to catch it. Any chance anyone has it or knows the link I'm referring to? I think it was specifically about supporting women who have experienced violence.

moptophairshop · 25/11/2020 19:41

Ah, thank you Chatty. I missed your message (must learn to type faster!)

miri1985 · 25/11/2020 19:44

"Every day in Germany a man tries to kill his partner or ex-partner. One in three attempts is successful."

Duckwit · 25/11/2020 19:49

Why on earth was the thread about the open letter deleted? Confused

OvaHere · 25/11/2020 19:52

@Duckwit

Why on earth was the thread about the open letter deleted? Confused
It wasn't contributing to civil debate (words to that effect).
ChattyLion · 25/11/2020 19:59

That wasn’t my post with links about supporting individual women sorry Moptop- mine has examples of obligations to act against VAWG under the Istanbul convention- useful to note as a lever to hold UK government organisations to account since we’re signatory to that convention.

@Duckwit

I think it was because the OP used the phrase 'Pick Danderers' Wink

I got deleted a couple of days ago for using the same phrase. If the boot fits, wear it, I say.

ChattyLion · 25/11/2020 20:06

I didn’t see anything dodgy or untrue in that thread that was pulled.. although there was healthy disagreement with a few celebs who are proudly centring TW on a day about VAWG. Hmm

MoonPomme · 25/11/2020 20:11

Not in the spirit of civil debate apparently.
The article itself is not contributing to civil debate because its a steaming pile of absolute bullshit.
Dont expect I will be around here much longer.
We're expected to lie and pander and accept having our rights stripped and be basically trolled by articles like that and orgs like the UN with a smile on our faces.
Whats happening to women is not civil.
Its sick.
That letter is sick and all the people who signed it should be ashamed.

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 25/11/2020 20:15

Has everyone seen this? (couldnt see it anywhere else)

International day for the elimination of violence against women
TheCuriousMonkey · 25/11/2020 20:26

Is the definition of "civil debate" different for women? Women disagreeing with dickpandering, women centring women, women asserting themselves on the one day of the fucking year when the focus is on violence against women, is that all uncivil? The people who wrote that letter and the people who pulled the thread (or had it pulled) need to examine their consciences. They also need to ask themselves whether TRAs would engage in "civil debate" if feminists (not the dickpandering sort) had hijacked Trans Day of Remembrance with a letter to a newspaper about the violence inflicted on women and girls. I think we all know the answer to that. I expect this post, if not the whole thread, will get pulled, but right now I am beyond furious and I need to get this off my chest.

MaudTheInvincible · 25/11/2020 20:31

I feel the same. It's shit. Fuck them all.

And the anti-women activists who choose to plague this board with their snivelling dishonesty have my undying scorn and disgust. Fuck them too.

Impatiens · 25/11/2020 20:39

From the letter: "Trans women are more likely to be murdered, more likely to be victims of violent attacks in their own homes, and more likely to be homeless, again increasing the risk of violence, than their cis sisters."

Why is the Independent printing something so blatantly untrue? Even in quotes? I don't understand it.

OC's name really sticks out like a sore thumb.

yourhairiswinterfire · 25/11/2020 20:47

And the anti-women activists who choose to plague this board with their snivelling dishonesty have my undying scorn and disgust.

Yup. I said on the other thread-they were here a few days ago lecturing us to organise our own day if we were so bothered by women being killed.

Today was that day and we've had men crying because they weren't the centre of attention, organisations using fucking 'wxmxn' because they can't drop the misogyny for 12 goddamn hours, and more propaganda being promoted by ''feminist'' celebrities pretending transwomen are being slaughtered left right and centre and we should be focusing our attention on them instead Hmm

That's what happens when women organise our own day. Fucking sick of it.

Impatiens · 25/11/2020 20:52

And not a word, still less a specially recorded message, from Angela Rayner.

This really takes the Biscuit.

Defaultname · 25/11/2020 21:30

The Independent's a day early with marking the International Day For the Elimination of Women.

IrishMumSW19 · 25/11/2020 21:33

And the absolute gall of Olivia Colman and the rest of her pals. So disgusting.

Duckwit · 25/11/2020 21:44

I'm fucking fuming at that 'open letter'. How dare they dismiss the suffering of girls and women all over the world in that way, today was not the day. I can't say much more than that, I can't really believe it to be honest!

Doyoumind · 25/11/2020 22:04

Just remembering that OC was in Tyrannosaur. Such a let down for her to be involved in the spread of mistruths about violence against women.

Thingybob · 25/11/2020 22:07

That open letter, which was signed by two Labour MPs, has to be the most insensitive and heartless thing I've every read. Disgusting

ArabellaScott · 25/11/2020 22:13

That open letter needs to be archived. It's absolutely abhorrent. As well as bullshit.

I note where it's being shared: The Independent and Pink News.

Angryresister · 25/11/2020 22:16

So sick and tired today after local action and reporting on local media, now full of comments about how are numbers were false, how women do it ie, kill men the same amount as men, that it’s all equal and so on. Reading the stories of what happened to the women killed is shocking and minimising this just adds to the pain. This year it seems that older women have been killed in greater numbers, not only by their partners/ex partners but by their sons and brothers...

Imnobody4 · 25/11/2020 22:17

And West Yorkshire Police lead with this.
