Saw this on twitter and thought I would share: vancouversun.com/news/b-c-supreme-court-judge-orders-surgeon-to-deny-trans-teens-mastectomy-wish?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1604974077

Mother of the child asking the surgeons to provide evidence of the protocol they have followed to demonstrate that the operation is in the child's best interests.

Phalloplasty arms are another irreversible consequence of body dysmorphia.

Datun · 16/11/2020 09:07

@PurpleHoodie

Has anyone seen the arms of otherwise healthy young women after their skin/muscle have been cut off to use to form fake penises??

Utterly heartbreaking.

I actually have tears at the back of my eyes just typing this.

Yes. And pictures of them have been banned on here, I believe. They were certainly deleted. Of course it was very shocking, but ignoring it is irresponsible.

I even remember a poster on here who was a staunch trans ally, calling people liars for posting the pictures. Saying they were obviously photo shopped.

IwishNothingButTheBestForYou2 · 16/11/2020 09:10

Very pleased to hear of the Canadian Gender Report.

A chink of light in the madness.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 16/11/2020 09:14

A transman called Scott Newgent is very open about the damage that phalloplasty procedures gwvevdinr to his arm. He transitioned as an adult and is a campaigner against transitioning children.

I'm.sure I remember someone posting a dilation schedule and then wondering how they actually had time do do much in the way of regular things, how time.consuming and how painful it must have been.

PurpleHoodie · 16/11/2020 09:17

Oh God. Yes What. That dilation schedule was brutal. And for life.

Denial that children grow up and are infertile.

Denial that children grow up and have no sexual function.

Denial that the brains of children don’t benefit from the effects of puberty.

Denial that children are adults with altered bone density.

Denial of the significantly increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Denial of the intense uterine pain from testosterone.

Denial of the increased risk of cancer.

Denial of what is actually involved in surgery.

Denial of the fact that certain elements of surgery are entirely experimental.

Denial of the myriad of complications to go with these surgeries.

Denial of the fact surgery to the genitals and hormone treatments result in a lifetime of medicalisation, needing doctors appointments regularly for life.

Denial of the fact there is a number of adults who now regret all of the above.

It seems to me those who most commonly deny it all aren’t the ones experiencing/experienced it personally. Who does this denial benefit? Not the kids, that’s for sure.

PurpleHoodie · 16/11/2020 09:24

Yes Datun.

Ignoring it, or trying to hide it all away is highly irresponsible.

Wafting over everything with "rainbows and unicorns and fairies and glitter" language and images is an awful and deceptive thing to do.

The reality is atrophied uteruses.

Atrophied Overies and fallopian tubes.

Damaged and dried vaginas and vulvas.

Healthy breasts cut off.

Broken/miss shapen ribs and lung problems (binding)

Phalloplasty arms.

Personality changes and mental health issues (excess testosterone)

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/11/2020 09:24

I'm also assuming that schedule wasnfir the regular penile inversion surgery

Who knows what the new ways they have had to retry and figure out around not having a penis to work with, ( something that is an issue when blockers are used ) and what those after care procedures entail

PurpleHoodie · 16/11/2020 09:24

and there was the poor person who committed suicide after discovering that their vaginoplasty using intestinal tissue meant that they would have a strong smell of faeces for the rest of their life.

The surgery outcomes for both sexes seem awful. No wonder the majority of the older male bodied transgender people reportedly wouldn't consider surgery (I have seen various interviews with such people - an Oxford Uni lecturer stuck in my mind particularly, they were absolutely certain that the 'risks are too high')

They are sensible enough to understand the consequences at least. It is a shame that they then use this to encourage younger people to have irreversible hormone treatment at ever younger ages.

NotBadConsidering · 16/11/2020 09:34

Yes x post Purple. You’re right about the masking language.

And what I find most disconcerting is it’s adults denying this. It’s adults not telling children the realities. It’s adults telling children they can facilitate the obtainment of their dream when the realities are very different.

Winesalot · 16/11/2020 09:40

It seems to me those who most commonly deny it all aren’t the ones experiencing/experienced it personally. Who does this denial benefit? Not the kids, that’s for sure.

And whenever this point is raised it is ignored by posters, deflected around and never answered. And often those denying it have children, have sexual function and have not had any surgery. Just hormones which effect male bodies differently to females.

Who benefits from ignoring the significant impacts of even a partial transition of a girl or young woman?

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/11/2020 09:40

I also worry about the future relationships for these young people.

I know from personal experience that sleeping with someone who doesn't give a crap how it was for you males you feel really really crap about yourself.

And I personally couldn't sleep with someone knowing they weren't getting anything from it

Now if 2 consenting adults get together in a mutually happy non sexual relationship then brilliant.

But what will be the effects on someone if their partner doesn't care about the fact they don't have any feeling or pleasurable function ?

And mental health rips families apart , and thats with many many years of love and work , there's only so long someone cab carry their own issues alongside everyone else's.

What does it mean if that's the starting point of the relationship, I mean what if the surgery isn't the end of their problems but the beginning of so many more ?

Seeing as this thread has been bumped, I found this very powerful statement from the mother of a Canadian detransitioner, and her daughter herself.

genderreport.ca/canada-gender-transition-detransition/

ShimmyShimmyYa · 20/01/2021 20:18

thanks for that article, Pothole- as you say, very powerful

FannyCann · 20/01/2021 20:32

Thanks PotholeParadies
It's jaw dropping, and so upsetting to read that account. Parents who tried to do their best. Who consulted a range of professionals and trusted them. And so called professionals who displayed an extraordinary lack of curiosity or wider thinking. Just going through the motions as far as I can see. Lazily following the crowd.

I'm just glad this girl has finally come through and is able to make sense of her experience. I wish her peace. Thanks

PotholeParadies · 20/01/2021 20:43

All our worst fears confirmed. I am raging that that young woman had so much interaction with children's and adolescents' mental health services and yet none of them flagged her up as autistic. It's pathetic.
