URGENT ACTION TONIGHT: SEX BASED RIGHTS

MForstater · 19/10/2020 20:36

Fawcett Society and Stella Creasy (I know, I know) have a ten minute rule bill tomorrow on equal pay.

It is about sex based rights but they are not shouting about that

You can edit the letter to make that point clearer ... It's sex not gender!

My version

docs.google.com/document/d/10l7cD-BHjlths6OySRy-nq8NlsWeBF3a637dNAP_Fc8/edit?usp=drivesdk

Would you do this tonight and share on social media etc ...

Gender is the same thing as sex. It's just a more polite term.

MIgZig · 19/10/2020 20:55

If only that were the case Milady, if only that were the case. Sadly it is being used to mean something quite different to the detriment of the sexes and mostly the female sex.

MIgZig · 19/10/2020 20:58

And should have said, thanks and will do MForstater.

@MiladyRenata

Gender is the same thing as sex. It's just a more polite term.
Well, if it's the same, let's remove all references to gender in law, policies and practice because sex has a distinct meaning as referring to a person's membership of a reproductive sex class while gender has a primary meaning of the sex stereotypes and sex role stereotypes associated with one or the other sex in any given society. And a secondary meaning of being a euphemism for sex for the prudish.

Using a word whose meaning hasn't changed in centuries instead of one that isn't even stable across the globe or ages makes for much easier statutory writing, too.

No, it's not.

Gender isn't the same thing as sex. Gender is what you identify as, sex is your biology.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 19/10/2020 21:08

You know that's bollicks MiladyRenata.
Maybe it was once upon a time ago.

You can't pick your sex. You can on the other hand pick your 'gender'. The set of sex role stereotypes you want to present as.

Equal pay is so that those of the female sex can earn the same wage as those of the male sex. Not so adult males who 'identify' as women can be paid the same as other adult males. Because they already fucking do due to their male privilege.

MiladyRenata · 19/10/2020 21:08

I'm sorry but I can't buy into the idea of treating people differently, and giving some people extra rights, because of their chromosomes.

If you really believed that men, woman and non binary people should be entitled to equal opportunities, you wouldn't care about trans people. In fact you would see us as allies because we are breaking down the idea of a gender binary determined by one's biology.

Do you really want to live in a chromosomally determined caste system? A female supremacist might, but is that really the goal of modern feminism?

Asterion · 19/10/2020 21:10

Aaaaaaaand there we have it.

Female supremacist? What now?

Have you been smoking something?

ContessaDiPulpo · 19/10/2020 21:11

Do you really want to live in a chromosomally determined caste system?
We already do. That's what we're angry about.

midgebabe · 19/10/2020 21:12

The goal of feminism is to balance the field by giving some rights to people who, because if their chromosomes, are hurt or otherwise discriminated against

Since they suffer because of their chromosomes, the rights go to holders of those chromosomes

Done, thank you. I could see anything of the draft bill(?) but I guess Maya has looked over it and us happy. Not that I’m suspicious or anything...

LizzieSiddal · 19/10/2020 21:15

*Do you really want to live in a chromosomally determined

DeaconBoo · 19/10/2020 21:15

Absolutely spectacular derail, this one Grin
Aaaanyway, thanks for the headsup op!

acatcalledjohn · 19/10/2020 21:15

Well that escalated quickly.

What if we just stopped judging people on what they wear and, instead of creating a minefield of narcissistic identities and matching pronouns, just simplify it based on biology because ultimately that is the only thing that matters medically speaking.

Calling a man in a frock a transwoman doesn't magically reduce the risk of heart disease based on his - you guessed it - chromosomal make up.

Cwenthryth · 19/10/2020 21:17

Lol. This should be good. Milady, you clearly have no understanding of what you’re talking about. Educate yourself, as the kids would say.
