Music by women for 14 year old niece?

She often visits and i'd like to introduce her to some empowering female role models, she loves music so i'd like to find some for her to listen to, women who go against patriarchal standards and can inspire her.
I'm thinking Patti Smith (BIIGGG FAN ) but i'm not sure if it would be appropriate? I got into her at around 16 but a lot of her music is quite deep and heavy but I think she was, and is, a brilliant woman who certainly goes against standards!!
Would appreciate some requests, thank you!!

Dd loved the (dixie) chicks at that age.

She was my teenage go to listen to! Very active in issues around women and amazing to see live. She has also written a couple of books which are very good. Many of her songs are written about her own experiences and I think very powerful.

Dusty Springfield and Janis Joplin are two favourites of mine.

Florence & the Machine, Suzanne Vega, Kirsty Macoll, Alison Moyet (doing great work on Twitter).

Tori's Strange Little Girls album was good, with covers of well known songs including 10cc, Depeche Mode, Eminem and the Beatles:

Strange Little Girls is a concept album released by singer-songwriter Tori Amos in 2001. The album's 12 tracks are covers of songs written and originally performed by men, reinterpreted by Amos from a female point of view. Amos created female personae for each track (one song featured twins) and was photographed as each, with makeup done by Kevyn Aucoin. In the United States the album was issued with four alternative covers depicting Amos as the characters singing "Happiness Is a Warm Gun", "Strange Little Girl", "Time", and "Raining Blood". A fifth cover of the "I Don't Like Mondays" character was also issued in the UK and other territories. Text accompanying the photos and songs was written by novelist Neil Gaiman.
