I feel immensely sorry for the child that was. However I feel more frightened for the women and children G might be incarcerated with.

It is awful, I read a good bit of the earlier appeal judgement this morning. I guess the mother is on the run from her young adult son now.

Not that it will change the immediate peril of the women this person comes into contact with, but I would love to know where the father is now. I hope he has been locked up for years but who knows?

Been arrested just prior to release it seems.

The case is horrendous. However that is separate from the issue for the possible repercussions for women in general.

The president of the Law Society said that the problems wrt prisons hadn't been foreseen. Legislators decided the problems would not be looked at or discussed. They decided this outcome for women.

Apparently there was an injunction against it being mentioned by the press. I don't know how that works. Would the judge in this persons' case have issued the injunction? If so, why?

And I would love to know what was the reason for the other thread being removed so it can be avoided here? Mumsnet isn't subject to injunctions issued by the Irish courts.

I think reporting was restricted by the courts. Of course, that can only apply in the jurisdiction.

There should be a law that someone's real sex is stated in criminal cases.

If information deemed to be prejudicial is freely available online, then the defence might argue that it wouldn't be possible to have a fair trial, should things reach a jury, I think? That seems fair enough - I mean, don't want to riska trial collapsing because restrictions are breached. If that's not relevant, after the checks, then I hope it will return.

Of course, I very much doubt that was the key concern on the part of most of those making the reports.

Apparently there was a court order not to mention the birth sex (different court to the district court).

In Irish law it is possible for a woman to rape someone because the offence includes penetration with an object, but yeah, it's not really a threat a woman makes, is it?

Am I being an idiot here or will the "prejudicial" information in question not be immediately obvious as soon as the jury sees this person?

Actually is there even going to be a trial? I thought they'd been let go because for some reason announcing a clear and credible intention to kill a specific victim isn't enough reason for the police to detain this person? (at least, not when the intended victim is female.)

What would happen to the women in prison? At least you'd have some chance of getting away if you weren't locked up.

I wonder what is really going on? If the courts direct that women are lied to when their very life could be at stake, they certainly aren't going to be treated with any respect as equal citizens for anything lesser.

It appears to be fairly hubristic, carefully linking it (false equivalence) to the right to equal marriage. The Yogyakarta Principles referred to. Reference to women related to 'fears of ciswomen (sic)' rather dismissively, as the last box in table 1.1 amongst several other points. Look at the number of submissions for all the issues in that box.

When you see the lies peddled by certain Trans cheerleading organisations, I would take all that with a tonne of salt.

Wouldn't it be interesting to see a similar document for sex, especially principles relating to women. Why is there no pressure for that? Especially now we know the Irish court system will choose to lie rather than let women be made aware of a danger to their person, if not their lives.

Men lives won't be under one iota of stress because of this legislation. They won't have any vulnerability Transmen (quite the reverse) or there won't be unfairness in sport etc. They won't face any of the impingement that women could face. Some more than others. It could disproportionately affect certain groups, women in prison and refuges.
