Never posted on this board before, but nervous, but I’m furious.
Just bought some towels from Superdrug and the first line on the back of the packet is ‘A person who menstruates..’ I’m a woman ffs!
I shop in Superdrug all the time for their cruelty free stuff but no more!

Mooncup are still ok yes? Thankfully they rarely need replacing

LillianBland · 21/06/2020 08:44

@MrsJamin

Just before lockdown I bought a bunch of reusable stuff, I really like the modibodi pants - they really work and I haven't seen any "menustruators" nonsense in any of their comms. They're about £20 a pair but I think it's worth it for the lack of plastic in landfill and they're really comfortable too. I bought some reusable sanitary pads too but they slipped about a bit too much to be comfortable out and about, fine for lounging about the house though.
Thanks for that. I’m looking for some reusable period pants for my daughter and I refuse to use a company that fucks about with terminology to avoid offending confused people.
I’ve just had this company pop up on my Facebook ads.

Look like a nice ethical company who support women world wide. Never used their products (mooncup and washables here) but I thought others on this thread might like to.

graceandgreen.co/
Isn’t it ridiculous that I was so pleased when I read the word ‘woman’ on that site? That’s what it has come to for me and many of my friends. It has now become the first thing I look for, when buying women’s products, before I waste my time reading the rest of their blurb. If it doesn’t contain the word ‘woman’, then it’s not getting any of my money. I don’t care if it’s only £50 that they don’t get, I feel better spending that money on a company that hasn’t fallen.

MrsJamin · 21/06/2020 09:11

@LillianBland modibodi have a "red" range for teens that has different sizing and style. I have been really impressed with them.

Thank you.

@SerenityNowwwww

There’s a petition to ask Body Shop to stop calling women menstruators. Not sure if anyone has seen it. Don’t think I can post it on here but I have the URL.
The petition has now been removed.
SerenityNowwwww · 21/06/2020 09:33

Removed? Was there a reason or has it been changed to include others too?

FamilyOfAliens · 21/06/2020 10:35

This is the page you get when you click on the link from the mumsnet thread on it.

Oh thanks 12boo!

The petition was removed?
Women are being silenced!

Hmmm there is no mention of women on their site, they talk of Mooncup users. TBH I’m fine with that.
ItsLateHumpty · 25/06/2020 00:53

JoysOfString

Bugger your pantyliner-based therapy

I’m sorry to read about your actual MH problems, but this did make me laugh.

Brilliant post Flowers

JoyFreeCake · 25/06/2020 05:39

Where did you get JoysOfString from? 😂 Presumably it's another MNer's name — anyway, it's brilliant.

But yeah — I'm getting very irritated with "mental health" being invoked when talking about trivial crap. It's serious business and people shouldn't be using it as a justification and trump card in aid of their pet cause.

ItsLateHumpty · 25/06/2020 06:11

JoyFreeCake hahahahaha Grin I don’t like to @ people so I use @ to pull up the names in the thread then use * to bold.

I do this to save spelling peoples name incorrectly. Works really well as you can see 🤦‍♀️

The screenshot shows the only Joy on the list is the string kind.

Can I have Gin yet?

Oh that's weird, I wonder why I'm not on there. I did opt out of notifications for being atted, so maybe that's it?

All the Gin for you :)

@Womanwhobleeds

My reply from Superdrug. Absolutely no care for offending me as a woman.
@Womanwhobleeds hi, did you email Superdrug? I’ve been unsuccessfully trying to find an email address for Superdrug, I’m hoping you have one, I’d be mush obliged if you would share it if you have one, please. Thanks
DRH90 · 01/09/2020 18:03

I am so lost as to why you are offended. Your womanhood is not defined by your menstruation. You are a woman who menstruates, and many people menstruate who do not identify with womanhood. Likewise there are many woman do not menstruate. You are a person, a person who menstruates who is also a woman.
The efforts made on this packaging are nothing to do with you. They do not exclude you in any way, shape or form. You are included as you have always been. Nothing has changed.

But bear in mind that someone who faces exclusion you could never comprehend is no longer regarded as an anomaly simply for existing.

Not all women menstruate, not all people who menstruate are women. That is a fact. Whether you are uncomfortable or not doesn't change that.

Deliriumoftheendless · 01/09/2020 18:17

I assume you gave a massive shit about women who don’t menstruate for all the forever “woman” has been used to sell period products, yes?

Because I didn’t notice any sensitivity towards post menopausal women or pregnant women or anorexic women or any other women who don’t menstruate until very recently.

Deltoids1 · 01/09/2020 18:23

Not all women menstruate, not all people who menstruate are women. That is a fact.

No it isn’t. Men do not have periods. Men do not have uteruses.
Stop being ridiculous.

MillyMollyFarmer · 01/09/2020 18:26

Only women and girls menstruate.

Not many of us like to be described by a function of our body. We have a word. Please, just call me WOMAN.

I couldn’t find the thread about where to add companies that do this? There’s a menstrual cup company I just saw when looking for a replacement called Saalt, that says menstruators. I need to find a company that says woman! Previous was a Lunette but I’m not buying one of those either!

yourhairiswinterfire · 01/09/2020 18:27

I am so lost as to why you are offended. Your womanhood is not defined by your menstruation.

Why are we being defined by it then? Confused

Not all women menstruate, (I've never heard any of them take issue with the word woman before, though) but only women/females are capable of menstruating.

If trans men and non binary people want to be dehumanised in that way, let them crack on. It's pure arrogance to assume everyone will be okay with that.

Women and people who menstruate works just fine. That's inclusion.

Kit19 · 01/09/2020 18:32

Strange to dig up an old thread to hurl the same accusations at us that were already done extensively in the thread.....

midgebabe · 01/09/2020 18:34

Actually being a woman to me is precisely defined as belonging to the class of human which would be expected to menstruate for around 40 years of their life

To imply woman means anything else is offensive to me. It implies that I am different in none biological ways to men and so deserve my mistreatment.

There is nothing else that unites us.

If woman is how you feel, I am a man.

A man who has suffered abuse because of the type of body I have. Which is why sex is so important. Because a woman can not shake it off with a pair of trousers and a new name ....it is forced upon her at every turn.

Your definition of women is exclusionary And offensive. And I am not the only woman to feel that way,

MillyMollyFarmer · 01/09/2020 18:34

So person is fine. Woman is not fine. Anyone offended by person, is not reasonable. Anyone offended by woman is totally brave and stunning, shouldn’t be questioned and we should remove all trace of ‘woman’ so we don’t hurt their feelings.

Makes total fucking sense.
