Emma Watson has now tweeted in support of trans activists. I can't believe it.

Great post EarlofEggMcMuffin

Completely agree

merrymouse · 14/06/2020 14:49

There are a number of very notorious cults associated with acting and theatre.

Doesn’t surprise me.

Not difficult to imagine how people can be exploited in a profession where you are encouraged to ‘be vulnerable’.

Lordfrontpaw · 14/06/2020 20:27

Here’s a blast from the past (on twitter). It appears that it’s the kiddies that haven’t learned biology...

“Dear J.K. Rowling, I send you love and kisses from Israel,” [Dana] International wrote on her Instagram account after Rowling tweeted: “If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased.”

RuffleCrow · 14/06/2020 22:30

Ah, that's nice. I think that shows what is becoming increasingly clear: that transactivism is to actually being trans what terrorism is to religion.

"Not difficult to imagine how people can be exploited in a profession where you are encouraged to ‘be vulnerable’."

This is an important point

Acting is a profession where incredible wealth, fame and success is granted to a tiny minority while the majority struggle in obscurity. Gatekeepers hold immense power to help or ruin and issues of consent and complicity are nuanced.

Acting is a profession where an actor may starve themselves, deprive themself of sleep, expose themselves to traumatising and / or stressful experiences, all as part of their job.

A director may conduct themselves in such a way as to leave an actor terrified and distressed so as to get a realistic performance out of them. This will happen surrounded by a crowd of people all who say nothing and may even applaud at the end of the shoot if the actor "delivers" the required performance.

Actors are invited to find characters within themselves and to become other people.

Cults actively target actors and people in the entertainment industry.

Theatres and acting schools have a long history of being controlled by hostile state actors. Theatre has played a part in propaganda, revolutions, riots and social and civil unrest since time immemorial and theatre groups have been banned in some territories at various times for this reason.

Various community theatre groups are promoting "tantra", polyamory, swinging, sex cults and the usual stuff

Here's just an example including puppet - puppets pop up in some interesting places

Of course a centrally important point, right now, is how theatre and theatrical skills are playing a part on fake news and social engineering.

The Romanian yoga school I mentioned in a previous post here boasts a large theatre group which performed in the following event to celebrate their pimp guru's 50th birthday. Many of the actors in the video also star in pornograhic films made by a variety of companies linked to the yoga school.

WARNING - this is an extremely disturbing video with nudity NSFW

video of theatrical performance starts at 1.10

hoodathunkit · 15/06/2020 10:49

a couple of old videos about the Romanian yoga school with its own theatre and dance companies, a puppet theatre and various porn businesses

hoodathunkit · 15/06/2020 10:55

They also ran into problems in Copenhagen, Denmark

They were awarded a huge grant from the local authority to develop a community yoga centre.

Trouble is they used the yoga centre to make porn films staring various yoga yeachers

this news report in not in English language but is still worth watching

Sorry if it's been mentioned elsewhere but the UN Women twitter account have quoted Emma's words in a little pink and blue picture and are getting their arses handed to them in the comments Grin

Lordfrontpaw · 15/06/2020 11:04

They’ve used used Daniel weasel too. They are bananas. How can they stand up down women/girls around the world - let’s face it, females have it a million times worse in countries where they are mutilated for aborted/killed at birth because they are female. If they are so busy working to make everyone one accept their definition of ‘woman’ then they aren’t fit for purpose.

Thanks for the links, hoodathunkit. It seems like the main purpose of the creative arts today - theatre and contemporary art especially - is to constantly push to break down people's (women's) boundaries and preach queer theory. I was at an arts event once, and a fully naked man suddenly appeared, masturbating. This was a 'performance' in the schedule of the evening. Although this was a fairly avant garde event, there were no warnings whatsoever throughout the night that this was going to happen, and I was mocked for being prudish by a few other (male) attendees for walking out of the room when this started to happen. I've been to similar 'performances' including S&M practices that were also not featuring any kind of warnings other than for nudity. I'm not in the least bit bothered about nudity or the arts being experimental and non-traditional, but performances, particularly ones involving men exposing themselves and committing sexual acts without warning in my book constitute sexual assault, yet anyone objecting is mocked as being ignorant and out-of-touch for not wanting to applaud. It's got to the point where it doesn't feel that the arts are about art any more at all, in fact, but are a propaganda machine for queer theory. I feel bad for any creatives caught up in this who want to make art but are critical of the agendas that are being pushed.

PamDenick · 15/06/2020 11:54

Blimey.
Glad I don’t live near your local theatre.

I don't think that it is the main purpose of the creative arts, however there is a significant problem with the infiltration of the arts by people pushing queer theory and cults.

I also think that the nature of acting and theatre is all about creating alternative realities and this is why people who are involved in cults, long cons and social engineering are also involved in theatre and acting.

All con men and women are good actors. They have to be to pretend to be people's friends while scamming them. Many would argue that long cons are a form of interactive / participatory theatre in which the only member of the audience is the "mark".

I have been in many similar situations. FWIW I think that there is space for transgressive, edgy theatre. Like you I'm not keen on being exposed to the transgressive aspects without warning or consent.

Anyone interested in the subversive / revolutionary and cultic elements of theatre might wish to research the Vienese Actionist movement.

This was a fairly small, obscure, yet deeply influential movement that spawned "performance art", initially known as "actions".

This movement had many very disturbing, cultic elements.

Possibly the most disturbing related to the artist Otto Muehl (pronounced mule) who created a personality cult around himself and set up a hippy commune centered around theatre, performance art and the sexual abuse of his followers including children.

Some disturbing videos for anyone interested in how hippy communes centered around theatre and performance art can become abusive, perverse entities.

Here Muehl forces a distressed child to perform on stage

shocking interview with Muehl in which he boasts of being a "sex champion" and of being attended to in the most disgusting manner by 14 year old girls

Muehl's films are too shocking (and possibly illegal) to link to here, however this is a "reaction" video in which intersted readers can see the reaction of a youtuber who is watching Muehl's videos for the first time and includes a description of the activities in the video (no explicit imagery but truly disgusting descriptions so NSFW)

Muehl was jailed for sexual crimes against children but now lives as a free man and is promoted as an important artist in many quarters.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 15/06/2020 17:37

Ugh, hoodathunkit - those videos are properly disturbing. And in that first Muehl one, no one stands up for that poor child - that's worse than the abuse in some ways, he's alone and has no support, and he knows it. Poor kid :(

Ugh.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 15/06/2020 19:02

transactivism is to actually being trans what terrorism is to religion.

Wow, yes. Absolutely.

I don't know if I can bring myself to watch those films, hooda. Sad

hoodathunkit · 15/06/2020 22:06

Sorry, the final film is one I shouldn't have included. Even though the nastier bits are obscured it is still incredibly disturbing.

Maybe just take my word for it that there is a long history going back to the countercultural hippy era of a merging of "edgy" (abusive) models of psychotherapy and personal development, theatres, circuses (basically nomadic entertainers), and abusive cults.

Circuses and travelling theatres have always occupied a liminal space and people can run away with them and disappear into them. Their nomadic lifestyles offer freedoms but may also entrap the vulnerable, if the company involved develops cultic dynamics.

Of course not all acting / theatrical schools are cults, are operated by cults or have cultic elements. However the cultic elements are much more widespread than people realise.

Back to Emma Watson. She may have had an excellent training in acting unrelated to cults. I really don't know. Her yoga and meditation practice may be nourishing and healthy and her interest in Buddhism may be unrelated to any Buddhist cults.

I just wanted to say that, via her professionand interests, she falls into a number of categories that make her vulnerable being offered copious amounts of kool aid.
