Thanks for the links, hoodathunkit. It seems like the main purpose of the creative arts today - theatre and contemporary art especially - is to constantly push to break down people's (women's) boundaries and preach queer theory.
I don't think that it is the main purpose of the creative arts, however there is a significant problem with the infiltration of the arts by people pushing queer theory and cults.
I also think that the nature of acting and theatre is all about creating alternative realities and this is why people who are involved in cults, long cons and social engineering are also involved in theatre and acting.
All con men and women are good actors. They have to be to pretend to be people's friends while scamming them. Many would argue that long cons are a form of interactive / participatory theatre in which the only member of the audience is the "mark".
I was at an arts event once, and a fully naked man suddenly appeared, masturbating. This was a 'performance' in the schedule of the evening. Although this was a fairly avant garde event, there were no warnings whatsoever throughout the night that this was going to happen, and I was mocked for being prudish by a few other (male) attendees for walking out of the room when this started to happen. I've been to similar 'performances' including S&M practices that were also not featuring any kind of warnings other than for nudity. I'm not in the least bit bothered about nudity or the arts being experimental and non-traditional, but performances, particularly ones involving men exposing themselves and committing sexual acts without warning in my book constitute sexual assault, yet anyone objecting is mocked as being ignorant and out-of-touch for not wanting to applaud. It's got to the point where it doesn't feel that the arts are about art any more at all, in fact, but are a propaganda machine for queer theory. I feel bad for any creatives caught up in this who want to make art but are critical of the agendas that are being pushed.
I have been in many similar situations. FWIW I think that there is space for transgressive, edgy theatre. Like you I'm not keen on being exposed to the transgressive aspects without warning or consent.
Anyone interested in the subversive / revolutionary and cultic elements of theatre might wish to research the Vienese Actionist movement.
This was a fairly small, obscure, yet deeply influential movement that spawned "performance art", initially known as "actions".
This movement had many very disturbing, cultic elements.
Possibly the most disturbing related to the artist Otto Muehl (pronounced mule) who created a personality cult around himself and set up a hippy commune centered around theatre, performance art and the sexual abuse of his followers including children.
Some disturbing videos for anyone interested in how hippy communes centered around theatre and performance art can become abusive, perverse entities.
Here Muehl forces a distressed child to perform on stage
shocking interview with Muehl in which he boasts of being a "sex champion" and of being attended to in the most disgusting manner by 14 year old girls
Muehl's films are too shocking (and possibly illegal) to link to here, however this is a "reaction" video in which intersted readers can see the reaction of a youtuber who is watching Muehl's videos for the first time and includes a description of the activities in the video (no explicit imagery but truly disgusting descriptions so NSFW)
Muehl was jailed for sexual crimes against children but now lives as a free man and is promoted as an important artist in many quarters.
