It's all over Twitter that Audible have buckled under the TRA pressure to withdraw their advertising from MN. I can't see anything on this board about it? I joined Audible years and years ago because of an advert and a recommendation from other MN users.

I am incredibly unimpressed if this is the case.

I know that a TRA tweeted them and they responded with a we'll look into it blah blah tweet but nothing else has been mentioned beyond that. If it is true I will be cancelling my account with them but will wait until there is official confirmation as I don't trust Twitter in the slightest.

The thread is here Smile

TRA's targeting mumsnet advertisers http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3907235-TRAs-targeting-mumsnet-advertisers

If it's true I will immediately cancel my subscription. I'm going to email them first to find out exactly why mumsnet must be cancelled when their own company provides audio books which critique transgender doctrine. Shades of Asda firing an employee for posting a clip of a Billy Connolly video from a DVD they sell in their own stores.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/05/2020 00:30

I’ve emailed customer services to ask. Will let you know. It anything less than an Arla (excellent milk btw) and I’m off. Tata.

WelshMoth · 17/05/2020 08:34

Does anyone have any suggestions for other audio books? Nothing else is jumping out at me when I search. If another company can offer the same service with equal costs or less then I'll plug it all over Twitter.

On the previous thread FannyCann suggested librivox as a good alternative, if that helps?

Has it been confirmed that they've pulled advertising? Can't find anything. Never came across them before but fancy a listen to The Sandman. If they fold to the demands they won't be getting my money.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/05/2020 09:09

Not yet. I’ve been on a chat and they know nothing.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/05/2020 09:10

Let's wait for a confirmation. I haven't seen anything concrete and worried this has all stemmed from people interpreting their fairly bland message to that well known irritant before they had "looked into it". Hopefully they will confirm soon, or respond to their customers who have personally asked them. Or respond to the TRAs.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/05/2020 09:11

I suspect the chat answers are cut and paste

We hear you
We want to make customer experiences great

ScrumpyBetty · 17/05/2020 09:17

This is so disappointing if true. I've been an audible customer for years and have spent a fortune with them as am always buying extra credits. If this is true I will cancel my subscription with huge sadness

Lordfrontpaw · 17/05/2020 09:19

It’s like trying to nail jelly to the walk speaking to their customer services.

We hear you
We understand you are concerned
We will pass on details to the concerned team
We can’t give contact details
We don’t know anything
...

PermanentTemporary · 17/05/2020 09:56

Looking to find out if it is true.

middleager · 17/05/2020 10:01

I also emailed them and will cancel if this is true.

WriterlyMess · 17/05/2020 10:02

They’re owned by amazon - not sure if they’d kowtow to anyone

Lordfrontpaw · 17/05/2020 10:35

But they are saying nothing - jumped up immediately to respond to the complaint but otherwise ignoring everything else. Weasels.

Collidascope · 17/05/2020 10:41

I've put my account on hold for ninety days. I have loads of credits so don't want to lose them by cancelling my membership, but I'm not prepared to pay anymore while there's a chance they'll cave into this kind of crap.

MidCLegs · 17/05/2020 10:42

I think they'll have bots and young kids responding to twitter and amazon chat. I doubt they'll do anything about this; they're Amazon after all and I think they've got bigger fish to fry (logistics etc) at the moment!

Mucklowe · 17/05/2020 10:43

Surely pulling advertising has as much of a negative effect (maybe more) on the advertiser than on MN. Sure, MN loses the money from the company, but the company misses out on massive reach.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/05/2020 11:35

I did point out to them that doing nothing (beyond their cringing response to original whinge tweet) or capitulating would cause bad PR.

WelshMoth · 17/05/2020 11:37

Thanks you lot.

Putting a hold on the account yn is an idea? I really value their service so will only cancel if this is true.

RoyalCorgi · 17/05/2020 11:42

Idiotic, if true. The idea that you should withdraw funding from a discussion forum because some people on the forum express views you don't like - what do they think the point of a discussion forum is? For everybody to agree each other?

AnyOldPrion · 17/05/2020 12:00

Let's wait for a confirmation.

I suspect you might be waiting a long time. If they have pulled their advertising, but realise it will have an effect on sales, likely they will say nothing.

MrsWooster · 17/05/2020 12:11

Oh arse, I’ve cancelled, having read on twitter and not done my own due diligence! Serves me right. If Audible pull an Arla, I can easily rejoin.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/05/2020 12:12

Can’t mumsnet confirm?
