It's all over Twitter that Audible have buckled under the TRA pressure to withdraw their advertising from MN. I can't see anything on this board about it? I joined Audible years and years ago because of an advert and a recommendation from other MN users.

I am incredibly unimpressed if this is the case.

I only remember seeing one such disaster procedure (thank goodness was it was another country so I was watching from my HQ - pretty horrible case - all over the Sunday papers) but oh, my poor colleagues.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/05/2020 13:46

Hasn't Mumsnet commented about this at all?

HerFemaleness · 18/05/2020 13:50

Has this been confirmed? Because the GLinner tweet has been deleted now.

I had a reply from Audible but the customer services employee who responded didn't have a clue. He said he'd forward my email along.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/05/2020 14:00

One not had any response from my ‘how was our chat?’ (I told them) or the email I sent to size other services (‘how was our email?’).

All very quiet on the western front. Pics attached for my own amusement...

I messaged them yesterday but have had no reply. Glinner has decided to take down his Tweet until they make a decision one way or another about withdrawing their ads from Mumsnet but I am very upset about being called a T-word by their social media manager for believing that woman = adult human female and have suspended my account until I find out if Audible's policy is to attack its customer base if they don't believe in the myth of the 'female penis'. I have been an Audible subscriber for years and racked up hundreds of books, including GC ones so have asked if they will be withdrawing those from their list. Will update if I get a reply. Anyone know how to contact Douglas Murray by the way? I don't actually have a Twitter account.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/05/2020 15:31

Well I’m out either way. I don’t trust a business that allows such unprofessionalism and who doesn’t clamp down on it hard and fast.

Can you imagine if she had used a racist or trans slur? But insult women and hey, it’s open season.

Pertella · 18/05/2020 15:38

Joe McGann 👏

FleecyMoo · 18/05/2020 15:43

I agree Lordfrontpaw but I would like to be told by Audible themselves that they no longer want my custom if I refuse to accept that male-bodied people can turn into women. I shall have no hesitation in identifying out of being an Audible (and Amazon) customer. Like I said before, ditching M&S has made my life nicer since I no longer have to worry about buying semen stained underwear! I will only ever buy sealed packs from other retailers and I do not need a flappy pocket sewn into the crotch to insert my 'lady penis' so any knickers featuring that revolting item will be returned for a full refund if I do encounter them.

MissLawls · 18/05/2020 17:06

I emailed this morning but haven't had a reply. I pointed out that this was a business decision and did they really want to give up on 12 million potential consumers for their products, as well as their children and their children? That will hit them far harder than a few of us cancelling our subs.

I didn't mention the word trans - clever huh! - but I said mumsnet has been under attack before from people who don't want 12 million mums talking to each other. And maybe before they make a decision they should investigate why.

And I said mumsnet is not a hate platform because if it was it wouldn't have 12 million users and it wouldn't be legal in the UK where hate speech is against the law - rightly so I said.

Finally I pointed out how warm and inclusive mumsnet is since I am not a mum and no one's ever told me I'm not welcome here - quite the opposite.

MissLawls · 18/05/2020 17:07

Oh and I said politicians court mumsnet users at election times - general and leadership. They find mumsnet users very challenging but it's a demographic they want to, and need to, reach.

Roseburn · 18/05/2020 17:15

MissLawls thats a great approach.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/05/2020 17:16

I’ve not heard a sausage yet nor seen anything on twitter.

I’ve done a lot of housekeeping on my account today and returned anything I’ve bought in the last 12 months that I either don’t think I’ll listen to again or I can get on borrowbox or scribd and I’m using the credits to buy some audible exclusives. I’ll probably delete tomorrow. Had an online chat with customer service where they said it can’t have been anything to do with audible as audible wouldn’t say anything like that. It ended up with them saying the audible twitter account was nothing to do with audible.
I didn’t want to cancel over the weekend because I wanted to give them a chance to say....something. Not even “we support the right of women to talk in an online chat room” or “we don’t care if women talk in an online chat room”. Just “we sell audiobooks. That’s it”

Lordfrontpaw · 18/05/2020 20:47

Must return my books. I’ve just got a Scribd account and got most of them there.

WelshMoth · 18/05/2020 23:27

Thanks To everyone who've contributed to this thread.

I am genuinely gutted to lose Audible, but I'll cancel.

Is there anyway of saving what I've already bought? I have a number of classics that I listen to on repeat occasionally. I have 6 credits
That I'd like to return - will I get
Refunded? Money is right at the moment.

You keep what you’ve bought but you can’t keep credits or have them refunded so you may as well spend them

DC1JackieReid · 19/05/2020 00:15

I’m on the Twitter thread and I got piled on by an aggressive TRA and the complaining party. No big deal for me really, but surely Audible can see what’s happening there???

Lordfrontpaw · 19/05/2020 08:50

Probably hoping it will all go away. Not a good look.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 19/05/2020 09:41

Spend your credits WelshMoth or you'll lose them. You keep everything you've bought so far, you'll have to still have the Audible app in order to access them but they won't be getting any more of your money. If you need more time to spend your credits you can pause your membership for three months, so you won't get any new credits (and they won't get any more of your money). You'll have to spend your credits and then cancel your membership within the three months pause otherwise it'll automatically restart.

Lordfrontpaw · 19/05/2020 09:46

Crap, I have 7 to use up now. Shame they can’t be donated to a hospital or something like that for an audio library. I might suggest that to them. As a goodwill gesture to - in a teensy way - make amends for the insulting tweet issued with their name attached to it.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 19/05/2020 09:53

Lordfrontpaw you can use your credits to send a book to someone else who has an Audible account, perhaps a friend or family member might want something. I don't think a charity thing would work with their model because digital items aren't supposed to be shared between multiple people, even proper libraries can only let one person read/listen to an item at a time. Perhaps if you use your credits for someone else you could ask them to give a small donation to the charity of their choice.

Lordfrontpaw · 19/05/2020 09:56

Fuckers, besides everyone I know with an account...😈

MissLawls · 19/05/2020 10:06

MissLawls thats a great approach.

Thanks very much @Roseburn

WelshMoth · 19/05/2020 11:46

Thanks @BlackAmericanoNoSugar .

Has anyone heard anything different this morning?

@MNHQ Can you please possibly update us?
