It's all over Twitter that Audible have buckled under the TRA pressure to withdraw their advertising from MN. I can't see anything on this board about it? I joined Audible years and years ago because of an advert and a recommendation from other MN users.

I am incredibly unimpressed if this is the case.

(And I manage multiple social media accounts and bloody hell, this is a car crash)

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/05/2020 09:46

I have subscribed to Audible for years, for me and my DCs, recently have downloaded a number of books in a series of a writer I have discovered and also some English A level books for DC1. I have cancelled my subscription after the vile comments from their social media idiot and the fact that there is no response forthcoming from them despite being asked a million times what is going on.

I subscribed to BorrowBox about a year ago and have been listening to some fantastic books on there for free. I also didn't realise that the family account for Apple has audio books. I will get my fill of books without Audible.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/05/2020 09:47

I'm just hovering over the cancel button on Prime now...

Lordfrontpaw · 18/05/2020 09:48

Yup. I’m cancelling today once I have the energy to write my reasons and offer some advice from my 30+ years marcomms experience working for international businesses.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/05/2020 11:08

I don't have an Audible subscription and certainly won't be taking one out now, in these circumstances. I'd be deterred by the Amazon connection, apart from anything else. I'd prefer my money to go to a company that pays its taxes and treats its employees decently.

Some people don't seem to get the idea of keeping private and personal separate, do they? I was gobsmacked when I looked at that young woman's Twitter account yesterday. I gather she's locked it down now. Put simply, Audible's customers are paying her wages. How does she expect them to respond if she slags them off publicly and gives reasonable grounds for suspicion that she's not treating their private information as confidential? Incredibly unprofessional and immature.

I've had an audible add on this thread via Google play. This morning.

Notahandmaid · 18/05/2020 11:32

I have emailed them just now. I will be sorry to have to cancel my account but I will do if they have bowed to pressure from one (or even many) TRA/s.

I have not bought Flora since the whole debacle last year. It's annoying that I can't as I gave up dairy last year and Flora was one of the few spreads I could buy. But I refuse to buy it now.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/05/2020 11:35

And we now use Arla - very good! And never use always - much better, environmentally friendly products.

We do need a thread about product/services alternatives (for any reasons).

Notahandmaid · 18/05/2020 11:40

I ordered washable sanitary pads from Cheeky Wipes last year so now use them instead.

Is Arla dairy free? I went vegan last year after being vegetarian for about 20 years. It was annoying to have to stop using Flora as they had a good vegan spread. I switched to Vitalite after and won't have Flora in the house!

Lordfrontpaw · 18/05/2020 11:42

Arla is a dairy farmers collective (I think) so alas not dairy feee! Lactose free but not dairy free.

I usually bought organic milk but now buy theirs.

YgritteSnow · 18/05/2020 11:53

Has this been confirmed? Because the GLinner tweet has been deleted now.

Notahandmaid · 18/05/2020 12:01

There doesn't seem to be anything on Twitter from Audible and I haven't had a reply to my email (though I know I only sent it an hour ago). I've paused my subscription until they confirm one way or the other.

They were quick to reply to the person who raised the complaint in the first place but haven't replied - that I have seen - to anyone else asking for confirmation.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/05/2020 12:04

A flurry of zoom tactical shit squad meetings I assume...

Sexnotgender · 18/05/2020 12:24

@Notahandmaid you know cheeky wipes are woker than woke?

Notahandmaid · 18/05/2020 12:28

@Sexnotgender No, I didn't know that. Not disputing it but what's the evidence?

Bugger...not another one to have to cross off the list!

Sexnotgender · 18/05/2020 12:33

They bowed to pressure from TRAs last year when they produced a period kit for teenage girls for not being inclusive enough. I don’t have time to hunt out the posts unfortunately.

They weren’t rude in the way audible social media have been they were more oh let’s all be kind.

I use their reusable baby wipes for my son. Annoyingly I’d have bought more from them but erasing women doesn’t sit well with me.

Sexnotgender · 18/05/2020 12:35

Here

Sexnotgender · 18/05/2020 12:36

Picture didn’t attach

Notahandmaid · 18/05/2020 12:37

Thanks for letting me know. That's disappointing.

Sexnotgender · 18/05/2020 12:39

Very disappointing as I liked the company but won’t buy more from them.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 18/05/2020 12:40

WTAF?

It's not just women that menstruate?

Are they on frigging glue?

Lordfrontpaw · 18/05/2020 12:40

Dingbats. Never seen a ‘man’s’ product so mangled. Funny that. So male incontinance pants are branded as such but tampons are censored?

Sexnotgender · 18/05/2020 12:42

It’s ridiculous. The bending and scraping of the oh please educate us is frankly nauseating.

Notahandmaid · 18/05/2020 12:45

I won't buy any more from them either.

I am feeling very underwhelmed by all the responses from Audible (i.e. zero).

Suspect @Lordfrontpaw is right and there are conversations going on now on how to deal with this without offending anyone. I hope their social media officer gets a slap on the wrist for her* unprofessionalism.

*Thankfully, I knew to say 'her' because she had helpfully put her pronouns in her Twitter bio.

Deliriumoftheendless · 18/05/2020 12:45

Well it’s true that not just women menstruate- girls do too. And female animals do too I believe.

But there’s a common theme there.
