Young women don't know what a woman is

This is absolutely staggering.

The latest poll commissioned by Wings over Scotland on the subject of self-ID, finds that all demographics in their majority believe a woman is an adult human female.

Except young women.

"The 16-34 female demographic actually voted by a narrow six-point majority that a person’s sex has absolutely nothing to do with biology. Even the next-closest group (young men) was a staggering FORTY points adrift from that view (net -34), and middle-aged women were close behind them at a net -36. Among women over 55 the margin against self-ID was a crushing 62 points (over 4:1 against), with older men at a breathtaking 10:1."

They have done a very good job of confusing things with language and threats of trabsphobia.

If you drill into people that transwomen are women, and tell them believing otherwise makes you a hateful bigot - then when you ask people what is a woman, you have to logically think, it's anyone who wants to be. Because thinking otherwise is hateful.

This is the obvious conclusion of the word woman being extended to include males.

Personally I think we should give up on woman (the word insinuates a subset of man anyway). Let's come up with a better cooler word. And no men allowed this time.

I suggest coolfems or sex-xx or
fem-xx.

I don’t mind being a woman. Can I tell my Nigel I’m reverting to the original word for his sort of human, and he is a werman?

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 08/05/2020 18:25

I dunno, I like 'wifman' and 'werman'. 'Man' itself was neutral, originally, as far as I know.

Littlemeadow123 · 08/05/2020 18:31

It's not that they don't know what a woman is, it is that they have a dofferent opinion on what a woman is to you. No, they are not thick - they are actually proving themselves to be far less ignorant and more enlightened than the people on here. They are not just parroting others, young women are not brainless sheep, they have minds of their own and can form their own opinions - to suggest otherwise is unfeminist. Biology isn't everything, it is how you feel inside that counts too and if you say that all women are born with a vagina then you are being a bigot.

I am so fucking done with mumsnet now.

Pertella · 08/05/2020 18:35

Is there a word to describe people born with vaginas that doesn't include people born with penises?

CaliforniaMountainSnake · 08/05/2020 18:36

I am so fucking done with mumsnet now.

No shame there

Pertella · 08/05/2020 18:37

Maybe all these men dying from covid should have just identified as woman, considering biology isnt everything and it's how you feel inside that matters 🤷‍♀️

You should tell the NHS and save thousands of lives!

OneEpisode · 08/05/2020 18:37

Hi Little, I came to Mumsnet because of biology, checking maternity rights and staying for parenting, iespecially disabled children. Bereavement too. The wisdom of real women here, young and old, and some good men, will be available when you want help with the inevitability of biology.

Michelleoftheresistance · 08/05/2020 18:38

Loving the scolding of women for not accepting other women's opinions, hence being utterly intolerant of women not obediently accepting and saying that men definitely, absolutely are women if they feel like it.

Irony overload.

Pertella · 08/05/2020 18:42

As the poll showed, even the most fervent 'TWAW you bigots' has a threshold to where they aren't comfortable with male bodies being near them.

It's easy to be all kind and accepting when your boundaries havent been breached.

sunshinesupermum · 08/05/2020 18:44

I know I'm a woman because I have a vagina! I feel sad for these 16-34 year olds if they haven't learnt biology yet.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 08/05/2020 18:48

I am so fucking done with mumsnet now.

Other websites are available.

Biology isn't everything, it is how you feel inside that counts

And alll this time I thought womanhood was down to my biology. Turns out it was just this ... feeling. What is that feeling?

sunshinesupermum · 08/05/2020 18:49

Biology isn't everything, It is when defining what sex you are - if you have a penis you are male, if you have a vagina you are female, if you have both then I guess you're a hermaphrodite? And I'm not a bigot - science agrees with me. Perhaps you should go back to school LittelMeadow123

Biology isn't everything, it is how you feel inside that counts too

If biology isn't everything, and it's how I feel inside that counts, then what am I? I thought I was a woman because of my biology. But what other stuff should I be taking into account?

Or is it only special people who have inner feelings that count?

Pertella · 08/05/2020 18:54

How do I know that how I feel inside is the right feelz for being a woman? Shock

Maybe how I feel is the same as a cat feels so I'm actually a cat. There are too many similarities for it not to be real, and after all, it's how I feel inside that matters not pesky biological facts, bigots.

I might be about to have an existential crisis

Maybe they know a XY person in their book group / office who is perfectly lovely and therefore all women and girls must give up their sex based rights.

This is where I sit, I think (well, not the second part). I'm in the younger demographic. I believe in the definition of a woman.

However I do feel some guilt because I'm quite close friends with a transwoman, and yes they are perfectly lovely.

I don't want to revoke any of my rights but I know it would crush that person to be referred to as a man. It's just a very... difficult situation.

SoldiersinPetticoats · 08/05/2020 18:58

I’ve always identified as a cat but when I try to lick my arse I just can’t manage it. I’ve got pretend ears and a tail as well and I’m really good at sleeping so I must be a cat, right?

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 08/05/2020 19:00

They tell me I'm being sexist when I say men, as a class, are bigger and stronger than women.
That is interesting. I went on a course for work and the male trainer was talking about heavy lifting. He said something like "Now, some men-not all of course-but in general-and I hope this is not seen as sexist-but men CAN be stronger and more able to lift heavy loads than some women.." and this other fella started going "Oh, I have worked with loads of really strong women, they can lift more than the blokes" and all these other men start nodding along, thinking they are being all non sexist!
I piped up " Men are stronger than women. It's just a fact" and this young woman sat next to me agreed- it's just a fact.
How weird that we are seemingly not allowed to just state biological facts and have to pretend we are all the same and that sex has no impact on strength!
If you think about it, it's a bit disturbing, this idea that men are not stronger, because then there is no reason to think a man might be able to overpower a women.

Chokablok · 08/05/2020 19:00

Which kinda proves that a lot of young women are saying this only because they think they ought to or have to

Yes... I was sure it was already a hate crime in Scotland to deny it.

So I might have actually answered that question that way too. But I don't believe I should have to share toilets. Or women's refuges.

nauticant · 08/05/2020 19:01

It sounds like you're a furry SoldiersinPetticoats. Sorry to break this to you.

DryHeave · 08/05/2020 19:06

Surely the question that follows TWAW is simply: “what is a trans woman?”

Pertella · 08/05/2020 19:06

However I do feel some guilt because I'm quite close friends with a transwoman, and yes they are perfectly lovely.

If they are perfectly lovely then they would understand how you feel. Or are they perfectly lovely only when people are pandering to them and stroking their ego?

xeniiia · 08/05/2020 19:09

I’m in the age group you mention and I truly don’t know any girl/woman who believes that.
I wonder about the methodology of this study tbh

testing987654321 · 08/05/2020 19:16

I believe in the definition of a woman.

This is the important bit. Your friend is not a woman. If they are perfectly lovely they will understand that you like them whilst still recognising they are not a woman as you are.

If they actually want you to pretend you think they are a woman just like you, then they are not perfectly lovely as they are ignoring your boundaries.
