Clip from GBM interview this morning.
twitter.com/JammersMinde/status/1229439480064610308
She said "Babies are born without sex"
Unless she said something after to clarify what she meant by this or backtracked then I guess this is her starting point....
Astounding. Labour have lost the plot, and me.

(((Dawn Butler)))

@DawnButlerBrent

Against the other candidates I come out on top as the most likely Deputy Leader to make people vote Labour

I'm actually rendered speechless by this.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/02/2020 20:02

She is bonkers

PronounssheRa · 17/02/2020 20:06

Something that occurred to me is do these female MPs not realise they are being used.

They are being fed utterly ridiculous ideas, sound bites and theories by lobbyists etc, and then going on TV etc regurgitating this bollocks. It's their credibility, reputation and career that is being damaged.

They all appear insane, like they have been brainwashed by a cult.

Tanith · 17/02/2020 20:15

"How the fuck have we ended up with so many people senior in the Labour Party that are this stupid, just how."

Jeremy Corbyn was severely limited for choice after the Labour shadow cabinet resigned and refused to work with him. This is the result.

And this, incidentally, is what happens when people walk out, resign, etc.. They leave what's left to the tender mercies of those that stayed.

2fallsagain · 17/02/2020 20:16

Pronoun, I think somewhere there is a group of Senior TRAs laughing their socks off, incredulous that there strategy to get women to do their dirty work actually worked.

EsmeShelby · 17/02/2020 20:19

How can she say something so arrantly stupid? All the eggs a woman has are there WHEN SHE IS BORN. That's a biological fact!

DidoLamenting · 17/02/2020 20:22

Jeremy Corbyn is of course very stupid.

Poor Dawn just "mis- spoke"

Aesopfable · 17/02/2020 20:23

Does she have kids?

Yes a son, whom she educated privately because she loved him more than most people love their children or some such nonsense to excuse her hypocrisy.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/02/2020 20:24

Isn’t that Diane Abbott? Even she wouldn’t spout that nonsense.

R0wantrees · 17/02/2020 20:25

September 2018 Dawn Butler MP (Shadow minister Women & Equalities) was the keynote speaker at the TRA conference, 'We're Still Here' organised by Jane Fae.

OP TheHarpySings attended & wrote
'We’re Still Here Conference 8th September: A report from the inside'

(extract)
3) Keynote Speech: Dawn Butler MP: Shadow Women & Equalities

This speech was fucking cringe. She said she was an ally of LGBT but had got a lot of messages moaning at her for “betraying women”. “Despite the fact I AM a woman.”

She mentioned all the countries that have self ID (RoI, Argentina, Malta, Norway). Apparently she’d been to Malta recently and it was “really chill.”

She blames the Tories for allowing this debate to drag on. “It is cruel.”

The impact of self ID are “non existent”. She said if this had been done swiftly there would be none of the current fuss or transphobia.

She said

  1. the LGBT community needs to mobilise
  2. They need to contribute to the consultation
  3. They need to change the tone of the debate (lolercaust)

She also went on to say that a “phobia” is an irrational fear and there are three treatments:

  1. Hypnosis
  2. Talking therapy
  3. Immersion therapy

Apparently the only way forward to deal with transphobia is talking therapy. DB said that the conservation needs to be around counties that already have self ID and it’s “fine”

Hilariously, given that the audience contained fucking Dr Harrop, she said something like “keyboard warriors don’t know the consequences of their actions.”

DB: “Labour will champion the unheard.”

She said that this was another form of Section 28 on the trans community.

She then quoted at length from a song from “The Greatest Showman”. I wish I was making that up.

Also, she got cornered by Mermaids reps on the way out and is meeting with them and their kids soon." (continues)

Independent article by Yas Necat
'Without your rights I can’t have my rights': Dawn Butler on the importance of intersectionality at the UK’s first transgender conference
'We have to fight for each other,' Labour's shadow secretary of state for women and equalities says'
(extract)
The conference aimed to provide a space where transgender people and allies could discuss prominent issues and network with one another.

Journalist and campaigner Jane Fae, who had the initial idea for the event, said she also hoped to “provide a boost to community spirits … after a year of unprecedented hostility towards the trans community.” (continues)

OverByYer · 17/02/2020 20:44

Where does she think babies come from? Out of her non existent vagina?

Richard Madeley should have made mincemeat of her.

SophocIestheFox · 17/02/2020 20:52

If she “mis spoke”, then what was she actually trying to say?

Babies are born without a gender?

Shocking transphobia, there.

SirVixofVixHall · 17/02/2020 20:53

Yes #GrowaSpineRichard
He looked terrified and as though he was breaking out in a cold sweat.
I am breaking out in a cold sweat at the realisation that the shadow minister for women doesn’t understand that sex is determined at conception.
Has she never heard of female babies being aborted ? Or the Chinese baby girls left to die ?
HOW has someone this thick ended up with the position she holds ?

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 17/02/2020 20:58

Wow I’ve never had much respect for Richard Madeley but fuck me he’s a spineless coward - he’s not one of those mean people who thinks there is a biological difference between men & women Confused

DB just looks off her rocker the tories must be rubbing their hands with glee.

Are you watching SNP??? This is how stupid you sound.

SirVixofVixHall · 17/02/2020 21:16

I think female MPs in particular are deliberately targeted by this movement. They are likely to buy in as they want to seem “nice”, and having a woman spout the nonsense makes it seem as though women in general are all for mixed sex spaces.
Imagine people this dim running the country. Getting us through a war, or a pandemic, or even a recession. It is so depressing seeing how dim the candidates for leader are. Apart from Starmer, who is simply trying to weasel out of it, he is intelligent , but an absolute coward.

teawamutu · 17/02/2020 21:25

Who is the current front runner? I've been looking for odds or polls but can't find anything for the last couple of days.

Justhadathought · 17/02/2020 21:31

She must have meant gender identity, surely

i don't think she knows what she's means to be perfectly honest.......

A bit like the police officer who questioned Harry Miller - who thought that " being transgender is when a woman's brain is trapped in a man's body".

tobee · 17/02/2020 21:39

She's a total fucking moron. And people are colluding with this delusion.

You wouldn't have thought Labour could get to look any more silly!

At a time when the government needs an opposition to challenge them on appointing Andrew Sabisky (who incidentally has now resigned) and many other things.

It's beyond grim. Angry

Voice0fReason · 17/02/2020 21:41

oh dear god it gets worse by the day.
Are they trying to out-do each other in just how stupid and woke they are?

NearlyGranny · 17/02/2020 21:42

She obviously meant gender - I think - but why wasn't she immediately asked to say that again and explain what she meant? How does something like that get through?

Why can't it be about personality and preferences? Why can't we leave gender out of it altogether and keep our safe, single-sex spaces without having to fight for them all over again?

Moreover, if indeed babies are born without gender, i.e. with no inborn sense of being either m or f, what happens to Mermaids, Stonewall, Hull police et al's assertion that sometimes a female brain gets born in a male body and vice versa?

Whichever way you look at this there are some pretty impressive contortions going on to try to make a coherent theory, but it's just not adding up.

wellbehavedwomen · 17/02/2020 21:43

It's really sad, her ignorance.

A female baby is indeed born with all her eggs already in her body. That means that our grandmothers carried the egg that became us in their wombs, when they carried our mothers.

Women's biology is quite incredible.

thecatfromjapan · 17/02/2020 21:45

She does mean 'sex'.

The ideology runs thus:

'Sex' is not a physical fact. It is a cultural imposition, which is naturalised. It only seems like a natural 'fact'.

Moreover, it is a concept, a 'naturalised' ideology imposed on much of the world through colonisation.

What we (think we) 'know' as 'sex' is, in fact, a racist concept that traps people in a cis-dimorphic fantasy.

'Sex' is assigned at birth as part of society's coercive control.

thecatfromjapan · 17/02/2020 21:46

That's just for all the people saying, 'She must mean gender.'

No.

She doesn't.

One of the weirdest things about this ideology is that it - necessarily, by its logic - grants gender a greater reality than sex.

tobee · 17/02/2020 21:48

But isn't that just linguistics? What about the biology? Society hasn't imposed penis and testicles on some, vagina and uterus on others? Not forgetting the different functions?

thecatfromjapan · 17/02/2020 21:49

🤷‍♀️
