FFS! Why did a she have to do this? It’s so divisive and gratuitously mean!

Sorry, there was a typo in my long post. (There always is - I strongly suspect dyslexia.)

"Writing for the Mail in order to get your voice heard would NOT have pleased everyone"

Purity does not help us. The main argument against us, has been to cry "transphobe", escalating to "right-wing transphobe".

I would prefer ...woman who has views and deserves a voice. If you disagree, come up with some good counter-arguments.

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/01/2020 09:58

Surely nothing could be better than Posie V Harrop?

And I agree with every word of Needmoresleep's excellent post.

littlbrowndog · 17/01/2020 10:05

Yes need more sleep

Any minute now, Kathleen Stock will twittering that Posie’s a “liability”.

Neither Posie nor the women from Wolf got into bed with the Heritage Foundation, they hosted a forum. Mainly because no organisation on their own side would. Posie attended as a guest, just like any one of us could have.

It’s my firm belief that there are women in this “movement” who are envious that they weren’t the ones to go to the US, but then they should have made alliances with Meghan Murphy and the women of Wolf themselves. They think that Posie is imposing on what they view as their territory when there is room for all. Or there should be

Igneococcus · 17/01/2020 10:15

I get my (foreign) names mispelled and mispronounced all the time and I'd be fucking annoyed if anybody would use that as an excuse to attack someone else, female or male, unless it is absolutely obviously on purpose and malicious.

LatinforTelly · 17/01/2020 10:16

Great post, Needmoresleep.

I'm glad Julie's post has gone from twitter. Whatever differences there are in opinions/approaches, it's never going to be constructive to air them on twitter, much less name call.

PegasusReturns · 17/01/2020 10:20

Posie is definitely not thick! Lazy insult

@LangCleg not as lazy as ’and none of my friends like her either’ Grin

JB is being utterly pathetic

Mossyrock · 17/01/2020 10:21

Meh. They are both great in different ways. They clash, as people sometimes do. I like much of both of their work. Whether they like each other doesn't interest me.

The tweet seems to have been removed now.

zanahoria · 17/01/2020 10:37

not seen the tweet, confused, what is happening?

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 17/01/2020 10:45

This is the right-wing feminism board.

I find it utterly fascinating how people who are supposedly keen on everyone being able to identify themselves are so quick to label and define others. Particularly when those others are women. I mean, it couldn't really be clearer, the double standards and misogyny.

I definitely identify as left wing. Smile

TirisfalPumpkin · 17/01/2020 10:55

Have always supported working together on a single issue for the benefit of women and children, even though I find the left intolerant and dogmatic at times. This kind of thing really, really doesn’t help.

GrinitchSpinach · 17/01/2020 10:58

Also, I think Julie’s timing is cynical. The last time Posie et al went to the US the same happened.

Yes, exactly. Here in the US the media climate is stifling. I was SO grateful to Posie and Julia for coming over last year and partnering with WoLF to make some more noise and try to force the media to cover our issues. And they seem to have gotten massively piled on by their countrywomen for it.

But actually 2019 was the first year I started to see gender identity issues covered a little more skeptically in some corners of America, and certainly WoLF are gaining more traction now with their meeting tonight in NYC and Feb 1 in Seattle.

American women are just starting to get the word out (not for any lack of trying on WoLFs part earlier, I must point out) coalesce and stand up for our rights.

Why would any feminist want to nip that in the bud?

Beyond disappointing. Hope the deletion means she’s thought better of it.

Needmoresleep · 17/01/2020 10:58

Somewhere there is a thread nominating sheroes, people who have contributed to the fight to protect women. The list is long and diverse. Both Julie and Posie are there.

It's worth taking a step back to the GRA reform consultation.

Here was a consultation on legislation that threatened massive societal change. Yet media and more kowtowed to Stonewall's #nodebate. The few brave journalists, Janice Turner being one, who dared report were quickly condemned. Other journalists threatening to boycott awards where she was nominated. Linda and Venice faced court action, based on a YouTube video including a throwaway comment by Linda. Women were being silenced.

In the midst of this, Posie sticks up a poster. Woman = Adult Human Female.

Complete genius. Nothing wrong with a definition of women. Except there was. That was what it was all about. Women were no longer 'allowed' to define themselves. They were no longer entitled to their own spaces. The response was huge, with silly firms like Ocado rushing to deny their main customer base. And lots of previously unaware women going "WTAF".

For that alone, Posie deserves our admiration and gratitude.

Our diversity is our strength.

littlbrowndog · 17/01/2020 11:01

Is it against the law to be right wing ?
Is it against the law to be left wing ?

NightLion · 17/01/2020 11:16

I was shocked and disgusted by Julie's public outburst. What on earth possessed her? I'm glad she has taken it down. It reflects badly on her and does a great diservice to the common GC cause.

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 17/01/2020 11:17

Left/right is irrelevant anyway - it refers to views on economic policy and thus feminists can be both.
Libertarian/authoritarian are more relevant here.

midcenturylegs · 17/01/2020 11:24

Perhaps a reminder to not have tantrums on social media. I am nothing like either but have huge regard for what they're achieving great things in their own ways. The end goal is quite important..

NightLion · 17/01/2020 11:36

I'm not surprised. As soon as I saw Julie's tweet, I knew the TRA's would be having a field day. It really undermines the aims of GC feminists. Unity is show of strength. Leave the petty sniping aside.

Redshoeblueshoe · 17/01/2020 11:37

Bore Wine are you on a mission to post that wonderful video every day ? Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/01/2020 11:45

Can never have too much of a good thing, Red Grin

FrogsFrogs · 17/01/2020 11:47

Wow those tweets wtf

I have mixed feelings about both JB and Posie. However they are both putting themselves in the spotlight and fighting for women which I admire them for.

Women are people and as such have various views about various things. Some you might agree with, some not. This is accepted in men. Women have to be 'perfect' though. Just more sexism.

snowblight · 17/01/2020 11:50

I was SO grateful to Posie and Julia for coming over last year and partnering with WoLF to make some more noise and try to force the media to cover our issues. And they seem to have gotten massively piled on by their countrywomen for it.

That trip was the biggest own-goal ever. No decent person would have looked at the video of them abusing Sarah McBride and felt anything other than revulsion for them.

TirisfalPumpkin · 17/01/2020 11:51

Right, BeyondFlube - the problem is so many feminists don’t seem to be able to get past a woman’s take on whether economies are best planned centrally to listen to her ideas about women’s rights.

SapphosRock · 17/01/2020 11:58

I'm team Julie. Posie does way more harm than good and only attracts far right extremist types.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 17/01/2020 12:01

Great post, needmoresleep.

I'm not really here for cheerleading, to be honest. I'm here to try and see how the situation for womens' rights is developing and to work out how to protect it.

Being rude or unpleasant is not the end of the world.
