FFS! Why did a she have to do this? It’s so divisive and gratuitously mean!

Fair enough Julie

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 17/01/2020 15:18

Interesting to see the intermittent posters that have been drawn to this thread

Doobigetta · 17/01/2020 15:29

Hi Julie, good to see you post. For the record, I think we need both you and Posie. And everyone else, all fighting in our own way. But directed outwards, not at each other.
Looking forward to hearing you in Manchester next month, and I hope you’ll come out for a drink with us afterwards Grin

AnyFucker · 17/01/2020 15:40

@Bindelj will you be admitting you were a dickhead making the same overtures to Posie ?

(Speaking as someone who is no stranger to being a bit too blunt sometimes)

AnyFucker · 17/01/2020 15:42

Yeah, Bernard. Funny, that. Puts me in mind of those fuckers that put gifs of dancing skeletons on their social media to celebrate the death of a young woman.

AnyFucker · 17/01/2020 15:44

Best to let it die, tracey. It's between Julie and Posie now.

slipperywhensparticus · 17/01/2020 15:52

I think it should have been said privately the last thing we want is a public fight to crow over

Thingybob · 17/01/2020 16:03

Respect to you for saying that Julie

Floisme · 17/01/2020 16:10

Always good to see you on here Julie and fair play. Like I said, I still love you.

Maybe I should leave it there and, if this were a one-off occurrence, I would do. But from one blunt person to another, I really don't get this obsession with Posie. I imagine you and she move in different circles. You do your thing for women. She does hers. She doesn't even call herself a feminist so I don't understand this constant need to comment.

I know you're not the only one who does it and I realise there may be stuff going on that I don't know about but, from where I'm sitting, it's really corrosive.

DuMondeB · 17/01/2020 16:20

Make sure you have taxi fare, Doobie is a dirty stop out, you won’t get in til 2! Wink

SapphosRock · 17/01/2020 16:31

She doesn't even call herself a feminist so I don't understand this constant need to comment.

I imagine academic feminists are frustrated that Posie Parker is doing real harm to women (Muslim women in particular) and yet here we are on a feminism forum with the majority of posters singing her praises.

LangCleg · 17/01/2020 16:34

Hello Julie! Ha. Like the rest of us, I expect it's not the first time you've made a tit of yourself, nor will it be the last. I manage it at least once a week.

Coyoacan · 17/01/2020 16:37

Posie Parker is doing real harm to women (Muslim women in particular)

Au contraire.

Muslim women need single sex spaces to go out and about and Posie is contributing majorly to that cause. She doesn't like Islam and is not a fan of Muslims, but that does not equate to the very real harm being done to them by the removal of single-sex spaces.

slipperywhensparticus · 17/01/2020 16:40

What harm is she doing to muslim women? Is this because standing for women said there is a real need to discuss Pakistani rape gangs? The ones that weren't investigated for years because it was racist to suggest it was happening? and it was only happening to white trash girls anyway? Ohh and a couple killed themselves...

BovaryX · 17/01/2020 16:44

Sapphos

Back up your unsubstantiated accusation that PP is doing real harm to women. Substantiate that accusation.

Floisme · 17/01/2020 16:47

I wasn't aware Julie Bindel was an academic in addition to her many other talents? In any case, academic feminists are perfectly entitled to their opinions on Posie but they're not in charge of feminism.

DrLouiseJMoody · 17/01/2020 16:50

Academic feminists are not the only voice, but one voice in a large movement. They hold no particular power or have any special influence, at least, no more so than the rest of us; but obviously, as a collective, we are indeed powerful and can begin to effect real change. I'm not sure why academic views should be given priority over anyone else's, but perhaps I've missed the point. Perhaps Sappho just meant to explain the perspective of some (and again, feminist academics are a large group so I wouldn't assume that the views of a few are representative of the whole).

BovaryX · 17/01/2020 16:51

The Academy has been at the vanguard of the war on free speech. Very few academics are brave enough to speak out against the chilling environment which pervades universities on both sides of the Atlantic. The Liberal establishment has a vice like grip on education to the detriment of critical thinking and free speech

LangCleg · 17/01/2020 16:57

I imagine academic feminists are frustrated that Posie Parker is doing real harm to women

LOL. I thought appeals to privilege were bad. Make your mind up, dear.

AnyFucker · 17/01/2020 17:25

I haven't "sung anyone's praises"

I have my own opinions. I can support and admire people for their individual actions whilst not engaging with stuff I don't agree with.

SapphosRock · 17/01/2020 17:28

I thought this thread was about the continuing clash between academic feminists and Posie Parker.

High profile feminists such as Julie Bindel, Kathleen Stock and Jean Hatchett have all publicly denounced her actions and called her a liability. And I agree with them.

HorseWithNoTimeForThis · 17/01/2020 17:33

I imagine academic feminists are frustrated that Posie Parker is doing real harm to women..

It's great that you can imagine stuff, but do you have anything a little more concrete?

theflushedzebra · 17/01/2020 17:35

The last Posie thread ran to 1000 posts Wink

I'm star-stuck at a thread with both Dr Louise Moody and Julie Bindel on Grin I think you're both amazing women. I love Posie too Star Star Star

#TeamWomen here. Wine

ScapaFlo · 17/01/2020 17:39

I know, theflushedzebra I want to post just so I can be a part of it but I can't think of anything to say Grin

theflushedzebra · 17/01/2020 17:42

I know, Scapeflo, I just came on here to fangirl Grin
