Layla Moran: Potential Lib Dem leadership candidate becomes first MP to come out as pansexual

Quote: Ms Moran, 37, told PinkNews that she had not previously had same-sex relationships and was “surprised” to find herself attracted to a woman, but added: “Sometimes, when you meet the right person, it just kind of happens.”

She said she was more comfortable with the label “pansexual” than “bisexual” or “gay” because it referred to the idea of love for an individual person for who they are and not their gender or sexual identity.

I love a bit of Le Creuset, tbf.

theflushedzebra · 03/01/2020 03:06

Le Creuset is all well and good until I nearly break my wrist on it, lifting it off the hob or out of the oven. Man, it's heavy Grin

BitOfFun · 03/01/2020 03:29

Heavier than the weight of oppression on us pansexuals? Huh? Thought not!

hipsterfun · 03/01/2020 03:29

Moran is saying she was told the relationship would damage her career, and it's because they are both women OOH PREJUDICE. The Lib Dems honestly couldn't give a shit about that.

You’d need to do a bit better than an email-faking girlfriend for the Libs Dems to give a shit - they set the giving-a-shit bar very high indeed.

theflushedzebra · 03/01/2020 03:33

BitofFun - couldn't possibly be.

JustASmallTownCurl · 03/01/2020 03:44

The level of detail! It's not far off: After a bottle or two of wine we... ya know... wink wink. Needless to say I enjoyed it as it had been a while... ooh what am I like.

I'm bisexual and to be honest I'm sick of people on one hand saying sexuality is a fundamental part of who they are and should be respected (agree and agree) but then cheaply weaponising it to look woke / faux earnest / get press.

I don't really want Boris to tell us about any of his conquests would take a while for a start and to be honest it comes across as an attempt at a land grab. I suspect the parties will all soon be selecting a "Woke Minister".

justcly · 03/01/2020 03:46

Isn't pansexual just bisexual + ego?

Why do we care about what kind of people someone is attracted to in that kind of detail? I could say I'm straight or that I like emotionally distant manly men, there might be some use in knowing the first half, maybe, but does anyone really want to know the second?

NotBadConsidering · 03/01/2020 05:32

blogs.spectator.co.uk/2018/11/this-mp-has-summed-up-everything-wrong-with-the-transgender-debate/

Sadly, Ms Moran did not say anything about those women who are not fortunate enough to share her special gift. Perhaps she’ll get to this the next time MPs debate this issue.

Grin just a reminder of the excellent James Kirkup’s article on this person. I don’t think we should confine our wonderment on how certain people get elected to just Boris. This is person who studied physics at university, yet believes in gendered souls Confused.

FannyCann · 03/01/2020 05:50

Lol I thought flacking was a reference to Caroline!!

Is it not? I thought how witty of AutumnCrow
So "flacking" is an actual thing unrelated to the person of similar name? Perhaps her behaviour can be excused by nominative determinism. Grin

FannyCann · 03/01/2020 05:54

Ew. Possible meanings offered by google are even worse. Confused

Quelle beau de lollox.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 03/01/2020 06:07

I didn't know about the email thing. Now I'm doubly glad I didn't vote for them.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 03/01/2020 06:13

SandyDrawsBadly explains pansexual.

Chocolatemice · 03/01/2020 06:34

I was worried it might be referring to Pan. I’ve heard about ancient gods being adventurous, to put it lightly. Not something I would admit to personally.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 03/01/2020 06:48

I always picture someone sidling up to a particularly fetching piece of cookware all "what's a nice saucepan like you doing in a place like this?" or muttering "cor, it doesn't half have a big lid" to their mates.

DH was going on about someone in the LibDems coming out and then he said her name and I was like, wait, the one who sees souls? And then had to explain. Will now have to attempt to explain pansexual not being about something you can cook a nice stew in.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 03/01/2020 07:35

blimey. the faked email is astonishing. as is the use of party funds to go after legitimate journalists

the lib dems are a fucking mess

obviously I couldn't give a shiny shit who Layla Moran is in a relationship with and suggest she sticks to talking about things that are relevant. we're not your friends Layla, you talk about that stuff with your friends.

jadefinch · 03/01/2020 07:42

Rosy Cobb is the one who issued a threat to journalist Sonia Poulton because she asked child safeguarding questions about Aimee Challenor twitter.com/SoniaPoulton/status/1202141855489691648?s=19

testing987654321 · 03/01/2020 07:47

This is person who studied physics at university, yet believes in gendered souls .

Why oh why do so many physicists support nonsense? I am a physics graduate myself and I always thought evidence and logic was what defines physicists. It's embarrassing.

MIdgebabe · 03/01/2020 07:53

The don't single our physicists unless you have proof they are more likely to have reality problems than the average scientist! Perhaps they see sex as some wired quantum state, always a little Uncertain?

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/01/2020 08:42

Great. The Lib Dem's erasing lesbians and safeguarding.

Won't be getting my vote again.

Moran is saying she was told the relationship would damage her career, and it's because they are both women OOH PREJUDICE. The Lib Dems honestly couldn't give a shit about that. I rather imagine the reality is that Moran was told her leadership chances might be damaged by defending a person who faked an email and had to leave her job.

Yes. It's a dead cat.

Even mocking the silly woman with the pansexual and the souls bullcrap is doing what Moran wants.

What she doesn't want is for us to spend this thread questioning the integrity of a politician in a relationship with an alleged political fraudster.

What she doesn't want is for us to tie her to alleged LibDem lawbreaking via sale of personal data to a campaign its members base their entire political identity opposing.

So let's talk about that and not a non-existent sexual orientation (we all know it's hetero, homo, or bi).

MollyButton · 03/01/2020 09:01

Oh could Cobb (or her departure) be part of the reason that the Lib Dems got slightly less over protective about Aimee? From veiled threats if you raised "concerns" to actually a bit of distancing?

Layla so far shows my 100% record on who I reject when people try to push them on to me as a leader.

Now does anyone know anything about Daisy?
