Spoilt votes - post them here so that the parties/papers can see them

I know there is a split of opinion about spoiling ballots vs voting for the least bad option.

If you do decide to spoil your ballot it feel free to post a photo of it here (be careful not to include any information that identifies you and in particular not to include the ballot's unique identification number) in case any of our loitering journalists wish to pick up the story or in the hope of giving the parties/candidates some pause for thought.

In case it is of interest (and you want a place to post your views for/against spoiling ballots), there have been a number of threads about spoiling ballots, a few links below:

Thanks posting that MsMcWibble - that’s is really heartening. Maybe some local councillors will give this some thought before the next local elections....

Excellent letter SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius Star

Oh wow MsMc thanks for sharing that- feeling hopeful!

ChristmassySpice · 13/12/2019 20:02

Given the fact that Jo Swinson got it horribly wrong in this latest election, as did Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour party, I do hope people / politicians take note. Sadly for other reasons, a misogynist arsehole is in power with a majority. I despair. But I have hope for the future. I have to. I have an impressionable 8 year old daughter.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/12/2019 20:02

Thank you. I hope someone in the LibDems listens.

BovaryX · 13/12/2019 20:12

MrsMc

That’s excellent news. I think the post mortem on Swinson will include this issue. I am really hoping it makes it to the media. There has been a political entitlement and a complacency about Northern voters and female voters and which party they should support. This election has upended that complacency. I hope this lobby and its influence are displaced as a result

Thanks MsMc
When I spoiled my ballot last night, I popped it in the box and then turned and saw a suffragette project on the wall in purple and green (I voted in a primary school). Didn't see it on the way in as it was above the door Grin

Fantastic letter SDTG.

Raindrops17 · 13/12/2019 22:28

SDTG, that's a fantastic letter. I wish I could articulate my thoughts that clearly.

So I'm wondering if I could have a bit of advice on next steps.. I spoilt my paper and the labour MP only just held his seat. He didn't reply to my email prior to the election so I am not sure what his stance is on self ID. What should be my next steps? Email again to tell him he didn't get my vote because of the issues laid out in my email? Is he even going to care when he kept his seat anyway?

Also I want to ensure conservatives deliver what they have promised (Brexit aside). Will he support that if he is a labour MP or still try to push forward labour pledges? Basically I want to be more engaged with my local MP but not too sure how to go about it.

The screencap at the top of page 17 (assuming default 50 messages per page) is from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3767644-spoilt-ballot-not-counted

HandsOffMyRights · 14/12/2019 09:49

A slight derail, but Trewster has started a thread with a sharetoken to Janice Turner's piece in today's Times.

While this is about Labour, it does talk a little about the social media crowd not 'representing' the majority of people - and gets a nice dig in at little OJ and Ash.

It's relevant because it's 'everyday women' (have I just invented a new category for Sal Brinton to compare with TW?) will suffer at the hands of self ID and all parties are ignoring women.

"SEX NOT GENDER"

"REPEAL THE GRA"

"NONE"

My constituency is just as safe as it was before the election so this was one way I could make my vote count. Even if only a couple of tellers saw it and wondered what it was all about, I count that as a Result.

I spoilt my ballot too. I crossed all the boxes and wrote 'women don't have penises.' ( Except I was so nervous I misspelled penises. To be fair, not a word you generally think of in the plural!)
