I have just sent this to the LibDems:
"This is a message for Jo Swinson, and for the Liberal Democrat party as a whole.
Whilst I voted LibDem yesterday, this was only because you were the least worst option in my constituency, and were marginally better than spoiling my ballot.
I was raised a socialist, but have always tended towards the centre ground - making me a natural Liberal Democrat supporter. However, if your party continues with its policy on allowing self-ID for trans people, I will no longer be able to support you.
Women have fought long and hard for our sex-based protections and rights, and it sickens me to see that these matter so little to you. Biology matters. Women have been - and still are - oppressed, discriminated against, attacked and sidelined due to our biological identity, NOT our gender identity. The two are very different.
Self-ID has already led to women being attacked in prison. It has led to biological women losing out on women in business awards to someone who says he is a woman some days and a man others. It has led to women losing sporting events to people who were born and raised male and therefore have all the physical advantages in terms of strength, stamina, bone density and muscle power.
It has led to women who work as beauticians offering female waxing services being sued because they cannot and will not wax a penis and scrotum, just because the owner of these says they are a woman. The same person is now going after gynaecologists for not offering them medical services when they do not have any female genitalia or reproductive organs. The same person has also pictured themselves in the Ladies loos, with young girls in the background, and has speculated about whether they could offer to help a young girl (who is a total stranger to them) insert her first tampon.
If someone has a penis, they should NOT be in women's sex segregated spaces, where women and girls may be in a vulnerable state.
Trans activism is based on toxic and outdated gender stereotypes - they are the diametric opposite of progressive. The progressive way would be to build a society where a person can wear what they want, play with whatever toys they choose, follow sports, pursue hobbies, like or dislike colours etc WITHOUT their choices being used to nail them into a narrowly stereotyped box marked Male or Female.
It is also horrifying that children as young as 5 are being told they are trans, and that pre teens are being prescribed puberty blockers. No-one knows the effects of taking these long term - there is no guarantee that, if a child decides to detransition, and comes off the puberty blockers, they will go through a proper puberty and will not be left sterile, and with underdeveloped genitalia. Cross sex hormones, which are being given to underage children, can cause osteoporosis, and can even stunt brain development - surely a risk that no-one ought to be taking, during a child's secondary school years, which are their most important, educationally.
I believe that Jo Swinson's loss of her seat is the price she has paid for parroting the mantra that 'trans women are women' during the campaign.
No-one can change sex. At the most basic level, your sex is defined by your chromosomes, and these do not change, whatever medical and surgical procedures you undergo. Some people can and do 'pass' as the opposite sex, but it is scientifically IMPOSSIBLE to change sex. So trans women are trans women.
I am 100% sure that you will dismiss me as old fashioned, out of touch and trans phobic. I am not. I am furious at the way women and girls are considered acceptable damage in the trans activist policy.
It is horrific to dismiss the possibility of predatory MEN using self-ID to gain access to women's and girls' sex-segregated spaces, in order to prey on them, as an acceptable 'loophole' rather than something that should STOP this policy, or at least be cause for further consideration.
You have said, very clearly, that women and girls do not matter to you. I hope you can manage without the support of the women of the UK."
