I know there is a split of opinion about spoiling ballots vs voting for the least bad option.

If you do decide to spoil your ballot it feel free to post a photo of it here (be careful not to include any information that identifies you and in particular not to include the ballot's unique identification number) in case any of our loitering journalists wish to pick up the story or in the hope of giving the parties/candidates some pause for thought.

In case it is of interest (and you want a place to post your views for/against spoiling ballots), there have been a number of threads about spoiling ballots, a few links below:

Inclination

VMisaMarshmallow · 13/12/2019 11:28

Pj maybe add nursing tops with ‘spoiled milk’ with milk crossed out a ‘ballot’ after it? After all it’s women’s biological reality that’s the reason some choose nursing tops, not the reality of male bodies.

Thelnebriati · 13/12/2019 11:29

We're going to get a lot of your should be ashamed of yourself' comments today. They tried it yesterday because some of us dared to spoil our votes. Today we'll, no doubt, be blamed for Labours defeat

It will be an own goal, its an admission we actually exist in enough numbers to count.

Justhadathought · 13/12/2019 11:31

All of the insults extend to the traditional Labour voters who voted for Brexit......according to activists they are too stupid to know what they want....they needed Jeremy to deliver 'it' to them without them noticing he was doing so. Oh, and everyone has been brainwashed by 'the right wing media'.

Until Labour examines itself, and its shadow, they will remain unelectable. They do seem resistant to that, though.

RuffleCrow · 13/12/2019 11:33

It's the responsibility of political parties to make themselves electable, and in a free and fair election, it's the responsibility of voters to follow their own conscience. There's really nothing more to it.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 13/12/2019 11:34

Well said, Ruffle.

Branleuse · 13/12/2019 11:35

Well, you all got what you wanted. Another tory government. Yay. So feminist.

TiredofthisBS · 13/12/2019 11:37

Called it!

Horehound · 13/12/2019 11:42

Where did I call anyone stupid @VMisaMarshmallow
What I said was no one gives a shit meaning it's difficult to find the results of the spoiled votes because media and the parties don't give a shit...
And it's not just women who've spoiled their votes and I'm also not playing competition with who is more tired....

PJsatMidday · 13/12/2019 11:43

Good one Marshmallow

saw this brilliant one on another thread:

Woman: Adult Human Female With A Vote

(kudos @Lordamighty )

PJsatMidday · 13/12/2019 11:44

This is a bit mean, but we are all mean, nasty and disappointing so:

Jo Swinson: Enjoy Your Erasure

bellinisurge · 13/12/2019 11:46

Proud of myself not ashamed.

TiredofthisBS · 13/12/2019 11:50

I remember those days @Horehound. It's tiring and you want to cry. My advice (which I ignored at time but was wise in hindsight so will impart here). Take time for you. Have a cup of tea when you can and do something for you and if possible sleep when baby sleeps.
TBH my little one is six and I still feel shattered. Confused

Justhadathought · 13/12/2019 11:51

What happened with the election of Jeremy Corbyn as leader was the turning to a 'causes' type of campaigning, rather than pragmatic assessment and government. It was all about radical socialist change.

Jeremy has been at the forefront of every trendy leftist cause since his student days. He does at least have integrity in that way. However, some of his many positions and alliances have also been the authors of his downfall. Labour lost two seats in GreaterManchester which have very large Jewish communities. and the militant/Trotsky type bullying in some constituency parties where I live in Liverpool, has meant I could not permit myself to vote for my Labour candidate - and that is without mentioning Dawn butler and the issue of Self Id.

Of course, Labour still cleaned up in Liverpool and its wider region, though.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 13/12/2019 12:05

Do they look at any of the thread before they plop in to tell us off? Like even a couple of comments?

It's like the perfect analogy for Momentum. Honestly. I would assume they were bots if it weren't so depressingly likely that they just have not learned anything at all from this.

VMisaMarshmallow · 13/12/2019 12:12

They act really horrified at the suggestion the rtft and don’t expect us to do their work for them. Clearly they know how to ‘women’ better than us and expect us to fall into line and perform their expectations of womanhood. It’s almost like it’s the same phrases every page or so with a different user name. Or different people rehashing the same illogical, inflexible points without any depth of thought, just like well brainwashed cult members.

MsMcWibble · 13/12/2019 12:31

Yup. Labour (and the lib dems) let us down, it's not our duty to vote for anyone who is kicking us in the teeth.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/12/2019 12:41

I ended up voting LibDem. As I said earlier, I only had Labour, Tory, LibDem and SNP to choose from. Tory and SNP were out of the question, and I agonised over the choice between the two that were left. In the end, I felt that Labour had gone too far to the left for me - I have been saying for ages that, to be electable, they need to be a broad church, and represent all of the left, including the centrist types like me - but I felt completely alienated by the current Labour party and its leaders.

In the end, LibDem felt like the least worst option - and I will be writing to them to express my dismay at their policy on self-ID, and how they are throwing biological women under the bus.

And I am not sad that Jo Swinson lost her seat.

Yep.

Having reflected on this, while I love it in the context of Jo Swinson losing her seat, I wouldn't want anyone thinking I was taking credit for the Tory win, as that's not my political leaning.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/12/2019 13:27

I have just sent this to the LibDems:

"This is a message for Jo Swinson, and for the Liberal Democrat party as a whole.

Whilst I voted LibDem yesterday, this was only because you were the least worst option in my constituency, and were marginally better than spoiling my ballot.

I was raised a socialist, but have always tended towards the centre ground - making me a natural Liberal Democrat supporter. However, if your party continues with its policy on allowing self-ID for trans people, I will no longer be able to support you.

Women have fought long and hard for our sex-based protections and rights, and it sickens me to see that these matter so little to you. Biology matters. Women have been - and still are - oppressed, discriminated against, attacked and sidelined due to our biological identity, NOT our gender identity. The two are very different.

Self-ID has already led to women being attacked in prison. It has led to biological women losing out on women in business awards to someone who says he is a woman some days and a man others. It has led to women losing sporting events to people who were born and raised male and therefore have all the physical advantages in terms of strength, stamina, bone density and muscle power.

It has led to women who work as beauticians offering female waxing services being sued because they cannot and will not wax a penis and scrotum, just because the owner of these says they are a woman. The same person is now going after gynaecologists for not offering them medical services when they do not have any female genitalia or reproductive organs. The same person has also pictured themselves in the Ladies loos, with young girls in the background, and has speculated about whether they could offer to help a young girl (who is a total stranger to them) insert her first tampon.

If someone has a penis, they should NOT be in women's sex segregated spaces, where women and girls may be in a vulnerable state.

Trans activism is based on toxic and outdated gender stereotypes - they are the diametric opposite of progressive. The progressive way would be to build a society where a person can wear what they want, play with whatever toys they choose, follow sports, pursue hobbies, like or dislike colours etc WITHOUT their choices being used to nail them into a narrowly stereotyped box marked Male or Female.

It is also horrifying that children as young as 5 are being told they are trans, and that pre teens are being prescribed puberty blockers. No-one knows the effects of taking these long term - there is no guarantee that, if a child decides to detransition, and comes off the puberty blockers, they will go through a proper puberty and will not be left sterile, and with underdeveloped genitalia. Cross sex hormones, which are being given to underage children, can cause osteoporosis, and can even stunt brain development - surely a risk that no-one ought to be taking, during a child's secondary school years, which are their most important, educationally.

I believe that Jo Swinson's loss of her seat is the price she has paid for parroting the mantra that 'trans women are women' during the campaign.

No-one can change sex. At the most basic level, your sex is defined by your chromosomes, and these do not change, whatever medical and surgical procedures you undergo. Some people can and do 'pass' as the opposite sex, but it is scientifically IMPOSSIBLE to change sex. So trans women are trans women.

I am 100% sure that you will dismiss me as old fashioned, out of touch and trans phobic. I am not. I am furious at the way women and girls are considered acceptable damage in the trans activist policy.

It is horrific to dismiss the possibility of predatory MEN using self-ID to gain access to women's and girls' sex-segregated spaces, in order to prey on them, as an acceptable 'loophole' rather than something that should STOP this policy, or at least be cause for further consideration.

You have said, very clearly, that women and girls do not matter to you. I hope you can manage without the support of the women of the UK."

Bowednotbroken · 13/12/2019 15:23

I too spoiled my vote yesterday- first time ever. Like many pp I couldn't bring myself to vote for anyone (and we did have a Monster Raving Loony candidate...). Wrote in pencil why too, but wish I'd read this thread beforehand - prepared stickers in green and purple would have felt more meaningful. Now we have a new Tory male MP - so I need to start emailing over again (not that it did any good at all emailing the previous incumbent (female, labour, woke). So (pulls big girl knickers up tight) - here we go.

MrsFogi · 13/12/2019 18:53
