Spoilt votes - post them here so that the parties/papers can see them

I know there is a split of opinion about spoiling ballots vs voting for the least bad option.

If you do decide to spoil your ballot it feel free to post a photo of it here (be careful not to include any information that identifies you and in particular not to include the ballot's unique identification number) in case any of our loitering journalists wish to pick up the story or in the hope of giving the parties/candidates some pause for thought.

In case it is of interest (and you want a place to post your views for/against spoiling ballots), there have been a number of threads about spoiling ballots, a few links below:

Losing Scotland was always going to mean the end for Labour as well.

Yeah, well, Labour has had over 20 years now since swathes of its Scottish members, including me, left because they didn't listen to what voters were telling them so if anyone is expecting them to learn now I imagine you will be disappointed.

Justhadathought · 13/12/2019 09:40

But you go on patting yourselves on the back for making decisions that damage the poorest and most vulnerable women in the UK

Still blaming the voters for the Labour party not really listening, are we?

That was another reason I spoiled. Jeremy and the new grassroots movement around him simply would not look at their own shadow.
Poor Frank Field. An honourable man who had served his deprived constituency since 1978 - hounded and bullied.......and he's not been alone in that. The Labour party under Jeremy could not tolerate dissenting voices.

Justhadathought · 13/12/2019 09:41

I'm commenting, not berating......

Reading TheBlue post I though for a minute my stroppy 13 year** old nephew had wandered on ... then realised even he has a wider vocabulary Confused

Yes Bernard it was a great flounce! Taking my laughs where I can this grey, sad am.

Just that’s a really good post. I’d be personally very happy with a socialist Labour Party, but I agree they need to move with the times. Scotland will either become independent or continue to have snp lead, and England is a different mix without Scotland’s much more working class demographic. Labour need to listen to women (primarily) and listen to the rest of the country. While I’d gladly have dh pay more tax for things like free bus fare for under 25s (our Labour candidate was very pro this) I’m also aware we are a small university city with a lot of money put in cycle routes, lower crime rate than many places and it’s not like our weather is terribly bad even in winter. There’s a lot of cycling, walking, car sharing here and I doubt free bus transport for under 25s makes much difference. Neither does her promise of free tv licences for older people as it’s fairly middle class here and has reasonably low renting costs compared with bigger, poorer cities. While I like policies like these in theory I get why many voters who don’t want tories on ethical grounds won’t vote for policies like these that seem frivolous. With Scotland in the mix, much harsher weather, higher unemployment for young people, harder to access further Ed facilities in some areas due travel, needing to travel further over harder roads to cycle, the cost involved in that and how being poorer over all older people in Scotland are more likely to benefit and possibly more likely to need free tv licences when stuck in more over winter. I’m waffling but you get the point, these types of policies make way more sense in Scotland, especially when the typical mc labour voters like myself and my partner could own a home for a much less than we pay here. I get the difference in needs and Labour should listen. Moving more to the centre doesn’t mean socialist policies are bad, just that people don’t need those as much as they did with Scotland.

113 rejected ballots in my constituency. I can't find any 2017 stats so not sure if it's increased.

Our constituency also had a recount and labour held with only about 500 majority (was 3000+ last election) so I hope my ballot paper got scrutinised by a few people.

Just a shame labour held, he didn't even bother replying to my email before the election. He will be hearing from me again in due course though.

TiredofthisBS · 13/12/2019 09:50

We're going to get a lot of your should be ashamed of yourself' comments today. They tried it yesterday because some of us dared to spoil our votes. Today we'll, no doubt, be blamed for Labours defeat.

koshkat · 13/12/2019 09:50

Well I am glad they were defeated so...

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 13/12/2019 09:50

TheBlueStocking you need to change your user name, love. Not a good look to be berating intelligent, critical thinking women from behind a moniker like that.

VMisaMarshmallow · 13/12/2019 10:00

Ok beyond, I was looking at how many voted in my area & trying to figure out where was so tiny they would only have 900 or 9000 voting..... my brains tired, sorry.

There were a few hundred spoiled votes in my area, and the usual Tory fucker won by way way more than that.

LangCleg · 13/12/2019 10:03

The Labour party lost because some of the poorest, most deprived communities desperately pressed what they saw as a possible lever for change

Yep. And if the idiots at posh Labour HQ would only listen, there's still a chance in five years time. The Tories now have the poisoned chalice of Brexit and Labour has five years to work out how to appeal to its core vote.

VMisaMarshmallow · 13/12/2019 10:07

Spoiled votes have doubled in my area since 2017. It’s a few hundred, would come close to changing the result, but I don’t know if it’s maybe enough of an increase to be noticed.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 13/12/2019 10:15

I can't find spoiled ballots for my constituency.

Boo

HandsOffMyRights · 13/12/2019 10:17

Me either Arnold

My local papers did report on spoiled papers in the May election, so hoping they might report on how many were spoiled this time.

nauticant · 13/12/2019 10:18

Dawn is a gender critical Green, her post is not one of disapproval!

Dawn Furness is attracting a lot of vitriol on twitter. Not about her gender critical views although that has contributed to the burn-the-witch vibe:

Mine was spoiled - i ticked all the boxes and wrote "this vote goes to any candidate who can give me a non-circular definition of the word 'woman". Then wrote some # slogans to go with.

Where were you all on the 'who did you vote for' thread yesterday? I was a lone voice crying in the wilderness! Grin

TiredofthisBS · 13/12/2019 10:23

On here RuffleGrin

HandsOffMyRights · 13/12/2019 10:24

Told you. No one gives a shit

I do. And I believe personal integrity matters - even if you do not.

VMisaMarshmallow · 13/12/2019 10:33

Sorry typo, meant it wouldn’t come close to changing the result, but is still a big increase and a few hundred is a lot imo even if it’s not a massive %

RuffleCrow · 13/12/2019 10:34

Yy Integrity is pretty much all we have left at this stage.

Horehound · 13/12/2019 10:36

"I do"

Oh, i mean anyone that matters that would do anything about it.
Integrity means nothing too. Sorry!

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 13/12/2019 10:38

No one gives a shit

I do, and no, I didn't spoil my own ballot, I'm just curious.

Ordinarily I find out by staying up until my own constituency results come in, usually about 1.30 so not too late, but I have a filthy cold and fell asleep in front of the snooker at 9 o'clock so didn't see the declaration.
