I know there is a split of opinion about spoiling ballots vs voting for the least bad option.

If you do decide to spoil your ballot it feel free to post a photo of it here (be careful not to include any information that identifies you and in particular not to include the ballot's unique identification number) in case any of our loitering journalists wish to pick up the story or in the hope of giving the parties/candidates some pause for thought.

In case it is of interest (and you want a place to post your views for/against spoiling ballots), there have been a number of threads about spoiling ballots, a few links below:

The interesting thing now is that a new generation of Tory women have just been voted in to govern the country. In considerable numbers.

I think it will be interesting to see what a more working class Conservative Party look like and how they deliver in comparison to an uber-woke Labour Party.

I also think that once certain areas have got over their issues with voting Conservative (in the North the driver was Brexit) they might not go back to Labour. They haven't in Scotland. No Labour in Glasgow at all - it would have been unthinkable previously.

All depends on what actually happens next.

I'm in a weird situation where I'm glad self id is not going to steal roller in. But devastated.

I will say however that Tory education policy has created the numerous loopholes to safeguarding in how random charities are now the 'experts' on child education and wheedling their way into schools.

Their insistence that subject leaders in primary become autonomous means that young teachers who aren't slt are making the choices over curriculum content to deliver pshe, and being trusted by heads to do so. This is Tory design.

DuckWillow · 13/12/2019 07:33

Yesterday o berated folk for spoiling their ballot paper.

Today for all the good my vote did I may as well have done the same.

Do t think I will ever bother tov one again.

FlyingOink · 13/12/2019 07:34

NeurotrashWarrior it's their usual policy of deregulating and getting their mates in. It's one of the worst aspect of Conservative policy. Ever since the explosion of quangos from Major onwards, both Labour and the Tories have set up semi-official bullshit factories to create non-jobs for their mates.

TiredofthisBS · 13/12/2019 07:36

Also the Libdems actively told GC people that they didn't want our votes. You got your wish. You reap what you sow.

FlyingOink · 13/12/2019 07:37

To be fair, even if every one of us had done as you asked the result would be the same.

BeyondVotesForFlube · 13/12/2019 07:40

Ahah, found the stats: 900 votes in it for my area, and well over 100 spoilt.

FlyingOink · 13/12/2019 07:43

I think I'm worried about two things right now: that this result becomes entirely about Brexit, and not about a rejection of Labour and Lib Dem policy (such as self-id amongst many other things), and therefore that Labour don't pick themselves up and remember what they are supposed to be about.
Much as I'd love to see One Nation Toryism actually taking place, I don't hold out that much hope.
Either way I don't think Boris will be changing the GRA anytime soon, there's far too much other work to do. Not sure if that's good, the long grass is ok, but I like the idea that we bring the policy ideas, the influencers and the regulatory capture into the sunlight.

Somebodystired · 13/12/2019 07:43

Absolutely this. I've always voted Tory in the past but just could not do it this time round as I really fear for the NHS. I could also not vote for Labour under Corbyn and Abbott, especially because of anti-semitism, and LibDems would be a very natural choice for me. But fuck voting for anyone trying to do what they are doing to women.

My spoilt ballot made no difference in my constituency but at least I slept last night knowing I had exercised my democratic right rather than abstaining.

TheBlueStocking · 13/12/2019 07:50

It's a stupid fucking thread.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 13/12/2019 07:58

That’s a stupid fucking post

Read the fucking thread

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 13/12/2019 07:59

What a stupid fucking post.

TheBlueStocking · 13/12/2019 08:01

Stupid thread. Absolutely stupid.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 13/12/2019 08:02

I love Bernard and her wine ice lolly.

I wish labour supporters would stop getting angry at people for not voting in "the right way" and start thinking about winning votes instead. You can't bully people into voting for you.

PJsatMidday · 13/12/2019 08:05

Don't be silly. If you are angry at the results, aim it a Corbyn and Swinson. They had a massive open goal with the Brexit/austerity/idiot Boris shit show. This should have been a Labour landslide. Failure to provide a coherent and believable policy on Brrexit and the economy, devotion to identity politics, the misogyny Momentum, failure to deal with rampant anti semitism and a shambolic leader are the steps fucking things you should be angry about. And Jo Swinson's complete contempt for the concerns of women. why should we have voted for someone who despises us?

TheBlueStocking · 13/12/2019 08:06

I'm sure Boris Johnson thinks women are just swell.

I am not going to congratulate you for helping that idiot stay in power.

Stupid, stupid thread.

But you'll reap what you sow.

PJsatMidday · 13/12/2019 08:06

Sorry about the typos!

PJsatMidday · 13/12/2019 08:08

No, I didn't help him to stay in power, none of us on this thread did. The people voting Tory did that. Do keep up.

GCAcademic · 13/12/2019 08:08

Stupid, stupid thread.

You don’t have much of a vocabulary, do you?

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 13/12/2019 08:08

I think you have the wrong sower tbh.

And possibly the wrong shoes on given the level of engagement.

FlyingOink · 13/12/2019 08:09

But you'll reap what you sow.

Telling women off before the election didn't work so you're going to double down and threaten us afterwards?

Ereshkigal · 13/12/2019 08:10

I wish labour supporters would stop getting angry at people for not voting in "the right way" and start thinking about winning votes instead. You can't bully people into voting for you.

This. I've voted Labour (and once tactically Lib Dem) since my teens. I did not for the first time. And there's a reason for that. I'm probably less happy about it than you are.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 13/12/2019 08:10

He did that. JC is responsible for this. It's on him.
