I didn't think it was possible for political discourse to get more divisive and extreme in a civilized society, but Frances Carmel Hoole, who apparently standing for election, tweeted a meme of herself threatening Joanna Cherry with a spray bottle of bleach and the term T*RF.

She has deleted it and is now complaining about the sound condemnation she is receiving on Twitter. I need to get a hammock for my face to help with the continual dropping of my jaw.

Tweets image laughing about violence against a woman. People tell her that’s wrong. Then tweets this:

I am extremely disappointed in the level of debate on gender and sexuality on these threads. It's provocative and dangerous and is as usual equating being trans with VAW which is just awful. Please stop.

All of my what.

Perhaps people would stop saying trans rights advocates approve of VAW if you would stop approving of VAW by tweeting memes advocating VAW.

Just maybe.

Look what you made me do...

What an idiot. I think TRAs and female allies think that belief in their cause makes them immune from criticism and gives them a free pass to express their message however they choose, whilst telling everyone else what to think and say..the irony

What did Cherry do to be called a T*RF?

backaftera2yearbreak · 01/11/2019 16:34

😲

I’m trying to think of a better response.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 01/11/2019 16:42

And this person is standing to be a Member of Parliament?!

Labour just get more and more embarrassing. Jesus.......

MrsWednesdayteatime · 01/11/2019 16:43

Another Labour candidate here being reported on Huffpost

I'm still a Labour party member, I feel so let down by their attitude towards women's sex based rights.

Despicable behaviour.

Yet Labour supposedly called this type of behaviour out as Question Time.

Do as I say, not as I do.

HandsOffMyRights · 01/11/2019 16:45

on Question Time just last night.

HandsOffMyRights · 01/11/2019 16:47

Not forgetting Sheffiel Labour Councillor Neale Gibson's dreadful defence of the "Burn T*RFs posters" that appeared last year.

Karabair · 01/11/2019 16:47

Completely immersed in misogyny, isn't even aware of how wrong what she did is. Totally desperate for male approval. The stupid thing is that normal voters don't care about "Terfs", they won't think less of a woman who uses the term woman to mean what it has always meant.

HandsOffMyRights · 01/11/2019 16:50

Those in public life have a duty to act in accordance with the Nolan Principles of Selflessness, Integrity, Objectivity, Accountability, Openness, Honesty and Leadership. However, when it comes to the debates surrounding transgenderism, our elected officials seem to think that they are free to slander feminists with impunity.

CharlieParley · 01/11/2019 17:07

Her apology is not only even more offensive, she also fails to adhere to her own identity politics which maintains that the decision over whether something is offensive or not depends only on the target's feelings in reaction and not on any objective criteria (her threat meets both of those tests).

“I didn't perceive this as a threat so I apologise I didn't see it that way.”

Unless the English language has lost all meaning, she's also not apologising for sending a threat to a competing candidate, but giving a metaphorical shrug of "well if you want to take offence, I can't stop you". (Which is a classic tool found in the extensive toolbox of any abuser).

ArfArfBarf · 01/11/2019 17:31

How is this person still allowed to represent Labour?

GCAcademic · 01/11/2019 17:44

After the disasters that were Jared O'Mara and Fiona Onasanya, I'd hoped that Labour would have done a bit more due diligence over who it selects to stand for Parliament. Apparently, they're doubling down on their policy of selecting ignorant, arrogant, woman-hating candidates.

TerfTalk · 01/11/2019 17:51

If this was the other way round, I.e. a GC feminist making threats to a TRA, could you even imagine the backlash?

RealityNotEssentialism · 01/11/2019 17:56

TerfTalk oh definitely. Reports to the police would have been made and pressure for immediate ousting from the party. All Joanna asked for was an apology.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 01/11/2019 18:31

Labour, for goodness sake. You're making yourselves impossible to even consider voting for.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 01/11/2019 18:37

She's just trollied her career surely?

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 01/11/2019 18:59

You're not defending women's rights unless you defend trans rights.

And what of men? Are they expected to defend trans people's rights too, or does the burden and responsibility of defending everyone else's rights fall only to women? At the expense, in general, of our own?

Think I can preempt the answer. I will never understand how some misogynistic women have unquestioningly internalized the language and values of patriarchy; much less why they would like to foist them on the rest of us. My response to the lot of them is to ram it.

BarbaraStrozzi · 01/11/2019 19:03

Hang on... Labour are putting up a (female) candidate who called women opposed to lap dancing clubs SWERFs, including a survivor of the Rotherham abuse scandal? I've watched Labour scrape the bottom of the barrel for several years now (used to be a Labour party member, left over this and antisemitism) but now they're bloody through the barrel and half way to Australia.

EsmeShelby · 01/11/2019 19:10

She shouldn't be disappointed. She should be ashamed. Surely Labour are scraping the bottom of the barrel now.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 01/11/2019 19:43

They keep putting these stupid children up. Why?

RoyalCorgi · 01/11/2019 19:44

I saw Hoole's original tweet and she couldn't even spell the word "Tories" right (she spelt it "Tory's"). Joanna Cherry has more intelligence in her little finger than Hoole does in her entire dimwitted brain.
